Want to play FFXI in a higer resolution then avalible on FFXI config? If you dont want to mess with regedit and scew ur FFXI and possibly PC up. Then download this!
Put it on desktop, double click, then click OK when it says something about adding it to registry, Restart PC and ur done. DONT DO IT WHILE LOGED IN!@!@!@
http://files.filefront.com/2048reg/;8513182;;/fileinfo.html
Warning! you need a good computer!!!! 1-2GB RAM, NVIDIA 7-8 Graphic card etc. To use it and not get lag. And still cut scenes will take a little bit longer to load and things like that. But works fine for me.
I dont take any credit for this, I found it a while back on alla, Im just posting it.

The op's file is a little... slacking
I have more complete registry files (I am a windower plugin developer btw =P, so of course you can trust mine, even though the OP's file is safe)
I have 2 files, High and medium: High sets to 2048x2048 and mediums something lower and such. These files tweak more than the resolution, it gets mipmapping and such also, and other registery settings.
http://windower.faservers.net/ffxitweakedhigh.reg
http://windower.faservers.net/ffxitweakedmedium.reg
May need to right click link > save target as and then run it.

if your computer has lagging issues would using a lower resolution thingie increase performance? o.O and if so would that mean that the "medium" would be best. or is that better than the original settings on ff11? o.O

I'm gonna be a noob and ask for the the copy of the reg before the edit, so i can change it back if i hate it, or is that what the medium settings are? ty

Can I ask for pics?
Like... 2 of each comparing with the best "normal" graphic and then with this program?

1280x1024 foreground, 2560x2048 background - http://img116.imageshack.us/img116/2264/hiresds1.jpg
(the highest background res that can be applied on my monitor.. slightly better quality than the file the OP posted)
1280x1024 foreground, 1024x1024 background - http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/1230/loresjn3.jpg
(the highest background res that FFXI's config allows you to use)
Contrary to popular belief, resolutions don't need to be square (like 1024x1024) in order for them to work, and 2048x2048 is not the highest background resolution that can be used.
I noticed when changing from a 15" monitor, which could only handle 1024x768 (2048x2048 for the background) to a 17" monitor, that the picture quality degraded slightly. Now I'm using 1280x1024 for my foreground res, and 2560x2048 for the background. In short, if you double your resolution, you're going to get the best picture quality, like in the first pic.

thread still open. you lose.
regedit
hkey_local_machinesoftwareplayonlineussquareenixfinalfantasyXI
0003 and 0004's settings should be 400 for 1024*1024. put them both up to 800 to get the 2048*2048 resolution.
pretty much gets rid of the lines on the sides of buildings, charaters, armors and makes everything look better.
lag generally on this game doesn't apply to video lag, just network lag so if you have a badass machine and it's laggy, it's probably the server not your internet settings.
remember, this game is 6 years old(japan)

Except that, i'm a trusted developer for the community, kthx. Thread oepned by me!!! LAWLS (mispelled opened intentionally to make fun of poster)
Plus, these are only registry files, not EXE's -.-
Farseer: Use your FFXI Config Utility. These files just set things higher than the tool allows. Set them back to the default settings if needed through the config tool.
The medium file is 1024x1024, like the games max default, but a little raised MipMapping to 3x.
If you want the game to look a little better than the default max, download medium, open it in notepad, and change the 2 numbers that say 400 to 500, thatll set it to 1280x1280
@galka guy above me: 5 years
Considering we JUST had the 5th anniversary! lol

I'm more interested in knowing how you go from this:
to this:
It's not just the ress that gives better quality methinks

I believe you can only do that with nVidia cards, though there's probably some equivalent on ATI...
Edge Correction +
Sharpness +
Gamma +
Brightness -
Contrast +
Resolution at max, both overlay and background. Doesn't appear to be using Windower.
.DAT GUI mod for the more crisp font.
