Pankration: Questions and observations

First off I'll get my questions out of the way, if anyone can give any answers.

1. Do you have to have a "Job Trait: MNK" plate installed on a mob like say a mandragora that has MNK main? As in, is having the main job of MNK virtually useless beyond 2 attacks without the trait plate? Has anyone been able to counter without a trait plate? Since plates only work when the job the trait is for is set as main or sub, I guess common sense would tell you this, but SE doesn't use common sense so you never know anything on this game. So, job trait plate, must have? Yes or no?

2. Does a sub job offer any additional bonus to your mob WITHOUT the corresponding plate trait? Does DRK sub offer ATT while PLD sub offers Defense? Sub jobs, worth it without the job trait plate? Yes or no?

3. Will I ever get more than 1 (if I'm lucky) FP upgrade for a lvl?

4. I saw a mob last night that looked like a mix between a Soulflayer and Ramuh prime, anyone know wtf that was? He floats like Ramuh and has a staff but is dressed similar to a Soulflayer.

Now for a few of my observations.

1. I see lots of people on the forums talking about stacking Dread Spikes and Stone skin. I tried this on my on whim and it is not effective, and this is why. Dread Spikes, unlike some of the other spike options does not last the entire battle, and with my experience was less than half, meaning the only times I was CAPABLE of drainging, I had been taking 0 dmg from my stone skin. For this reason, I think Stoneskin and Dread Spikes are not good paired together.

2. Drain/paralyze attack is hot garbage imo. That many FP slots for a proc rate that low really ticked me off, I think anything worth 30+ FP that is a rarity is a waste of slots until you are higher lvl. At lower lvls I think your points would be spent much better on something constant for your mob.

3. When choosing a mob to make a reflector with, be sure you've gotten the best possible skill on that mobs plate, he'll get that one for free, so make it a good un. Don't create a mandy with auto-regen +5 or resist silence free when you can get one with attack speed +50 free.

I'll wait for some feeback now, I'm sure I'll be disagreed with on some points since I've thrown out some of the hottest plates in the game, ie I pulled Dread Spikes and Drain ATT and Stun ATT off my Taurus. But, I'm just trying to help the NA population with as much info as I can, I dunno about other servers, but come JP time on my server, you better be ready to REALLY spam then. Heck SAT and SUN in NA times was only 32 minute wait, once JP time rolls around it's balls to the wall. That being said, I'm sure JP have info up on web sites, so I'm just trying to level the playing field and share some info and gather some also. If anyone wants to know my setup we can chat about that stuff in PM. I no longer tell EXACTLY what I do anymore. Last time I did that, 80% of my server lvl'd goldsmithing and my poor Orc Troopers became over camped day and night, literally within 2 weeks of telling a few friends in a pt I have steady income from desynthing Orc Masks. Anyway that's old bs, but why I don't share ALL my info, I don't want to turn around and see my next 10 mobs be mirror reflections of my species and abilities. I will tell you at lvl 15 I can take down a lvl 18 and have 60+% HP left, so I think I'm going in the right direction.

So take some time and post what you wish about general info or general questions, any specifics about traits currently on my monster pm please

I don't really have anything I can comment on in your thread, but I have a few questions as well and instead of another thread *gasp* I'll add it in this one.

* Do mobs from the pre-promy or pre-toau learn the moves of those from the same family in other areas? For instance, only raptors in promy areas can use frost breath, but does that mean that in pankration, only a raptor caught from say uleguerand range can use that, or will all raptors eventually use/learn that skill?

* Do the same mobs of the same level vary in total FP? All of the leeches I caught the other day had the same amount of FP, so my thoughts on this are that they are the same for the same lvl of mobs.

* Do stoneskin and phalanx absorb both magic and physical dmg like they do IG?

* Is there any report of how much dmg reduction protect or shell do?

* Has anyone found that dispelling attack works semi-reliably?

* Also would like to know if there are any reports of mobs gaining more than 1 FP per lvl.

I'm pretty sure FP points vary on species but a lvl 10 mandy would have more FP than say a lvl 10 Manticore I'm pretty sure.

Thats about all I can offer at this time.

I haven't seen more than 1 FP per lvl across 3 or 4 diff species i have lvl'd

Are you sure the acquire the skill from the start? I have not noticed any of my pets gaining the skill from the plate when I've made it. Actually, none of my pets have ever started with any skill.

As for the "Soulflayer and Ramuh prime mob", i believe you are talking about Corse mobs. I have one at lvl 11 so far, and I'm still trying to get a good combo of traits for it. Its a DRK mob and it does cast spells without needing the "Black Magic Scrolls" plate. I've tried adding a WAR and MNK subjob to it, but the NPC says the combo won't work, so I'm still searching for a sub.

From what I'v seen, Shadow Dragons and Dhaks are nothing alike in job/fighting style. Chances are, the area you caught your mob matters. However I did see a White Rarab use Dust Cloud(As opposed to the Snowy One), this could be SE's lack of caring or just because there is dust in the arena(Possibly attention to detail)

Answering the OP:

JT does give my Taurus counter. Proc's around once or twice in a quick fight. I' do think I'v seen him guard an attack or 2 as well(Hard to tell, I just notices big drops in damage)

The mob your talking about is possibly a Notorious Monster SoulFlayer, I know they are re skinned, so that might have been what you saw.

Some mobs start with the ability, some mobs don't. Thats all I know.

My gobbue had a Vit +25 on it, and when I changed it... It kept it. But thats the only one so far that has kept it.

I can confirm my Taurus kept his attack bonus and my red marlboro kept resist silence. Thats what tipped me off, because I never put resist silence on him but it was lvl'n up after his fights when I used him. I think there might be some that don't carry over, seems to be no method to the madness.

I also *think* my taurus guarded last night but has no job trait plate.

The mob I had seen was a Corse, and wow was I disappointed, 18 FP is trash, and I used 17 of them for blm scrolls and now someone says he'll use blm without it. I can say after doing 2 fights with BLM scrolls that the only crap he's casted is bind (wtf?) and blind, and the blind was at the end as he was loosing. Maybe he'll nuke @ higher lvl.

When I was getting the Corse I grabbed a Cave Antlion and I kinda like him, Pit Ambush is nice

When i go my corse it started at lvl 9, with no abilities, and 19FP. So far, he gets 1 FP per level gained. Its level 13 now with 23 FP total. I never added Black Mage Scrolls and it always casted magic. Recently when I hit around lvl 11 - 12 it started to cast Drain a lot and Blind. I'm half tempted to ditch this one and find a new Corse hoping it atleast STARTS with an ability. I added a THF sub job because I could not find any others to work so far, and the Dark Knight Job Trait. I haven't noticed if the trait is even doing anything...i'm tempted to get rid of it for something else.

i think you need the job/sub for the trait to work

I wish things made more sense. A mob with BLM main job doesn't need BLM scrolls to use black magic, so what purpose do the stupid scroll plates even serve?

Scrolls, ability and trait plates just make no sense to me. Unless they are only good if you are totally remaking a mob from war to blm or something, but then that would be a huge waste of FP.. uggg

the scroll probably makes it able to use higher lvl spells~
earlier today i saw my first -ga spells, it was against a mandy and the caster was a corse
the mandy took 0 from Stonega but Blizzaga did 153 dmg

Reviving a real old topic...

The only type of mob we hve currently been covering for Black magic and BLM or DRK are Corses... who naturally use black magic outside of Pankration, right? I'm still unsure about the Job Trait plates, but if we do more testing on like, a Crab that is a PLD at start, we can see what happens. Crabs dont cast white magic even though they are a PLD outside of Pankration. If we see the same behaviour inside Pankration, then my hyopthesis is this:

Monsters in Pankration cannot cast magic unless they are a job that casts magic and they either have proper scrolls or they are innately spellcasters of the job they came with. (I.E. Pots, Corse, Evil Weapons, etc.)

In order to test Job Traits one can do this: Take a crab Lv10+ that's innately PLD and challenge it against an undead. Or take a Corse Lv25+ and challenge it against a member of the arcane family. Both have Killer effects at those levels IF they have their respective job traits.
