I've tried using the cloth guide by Cing_of_cookies...
It leaves much to be desired, it's honestly horrible, skilling up 10-12 levels under a cap on an item is like a 90% break rate, and you cannot gain skill on breaks that far from a cap, Ah well i guess i'll just use my own basic knowledge of crafting and FFXIAH to find more reasonable synths to finish this sub, the ones that he lists to do for 10 levels i'll just have to start a few lvls later
being so far under cap is just wasting time breaking stuff even if it's dirt cheap to attempt. Even with synth support the break rate on items so far from cap is completely horrible and id rather buy -> resell slightly more expensive synths things than waste 50gil per synth just for a break with a very small chance of success.
If you dont want to risk breaking bigger money synths then i guess spam breaks all day, but it'll take you an entire RL day to gain a few lvls off something when you break so damn much. lol
I had the same problem when trying to lvl alchemy sub by one of these guides, it took me way too long to gain a few lvls, then once i got closer to cap BAM i hit cap fast cuz less breaks, then another synth 10 lvls from cap.. taking eternity for a few lvls, honestly whoever decided 10 lvls from cap for a cheap synth was a good idea to skillup on, clearly doesn't have a 100 craft to provide money for subs lvling.
Well im going for red grass threads right now, its not much money loss, a bit more invested but it has resale, vs doing yagudo fletchings at lvl 12, it's a horrible synth for 11 or 12 maybe when im more like 15.
I should write a goldsmithing guide and tell people to make EVERYTHING all the way up till flame rings 12 lvls under cap, wonder how many would be dumb enough to do it!
Guides for all guilds lv0-60+ inside! Enjoy^_^

Always the best way. IMO, no one guide is the be-all and end-all of advice. Crafting is too diverse.

yah it's not even that it's not the be-all of it, it's that it isn't even the be-anything of it, to me it just makes no sense to spam breaks all day even if its relatively no money loss, when you could lose at tops 5k per lvl doing something else and actually gaining a level in 5 minute being as low of a skill level as these things are, lol
Some of these guides, at least the ones i've tried seem to mostly go off this theory of pissing away as small amounts of gil as possible on cheap synths as far away from the cap as possible, breaking all the way and eventually you'll get there, which imho is a horrid idea, for me because i can afford better routes but even for people starting it out with little money to invest this is a bad idea, your just losing if you break.
Whoever wrote some of these guides definitely intended to focus on the cheap synths and it's obviously geared for starters, but even for a starter, breaking because you're far from cap, money loss synths and low resale items are just not a good way to approach crafting at any level really.
Most of these guides i've looked at start to steer away from this spamming shit synths far from cap thing around 30-40, but even 0-30 it's just not a good idea, it could take you 10-20x as long to level if your just constantly breaking with maybe a 10% sucess and 50% of that 10% gives you a .1, yah its just a retarded hassle, why any sane human being would recommend this method is beyond me..
I will agree, i 100% love shit synths that cost next to nothing, can sometimes buy ingredients from an NPC i can resell to an NPC (PL GOGOGO!!) and not care about the loss or having to tie up my precious AH slots from my main craft which actually makes money (sometimes)
I'd do them all the way if i could, but the level gaps certain guides propose to do them at are completely ridiculous
If im gonna lose 5k it might as well be on something I can resell for most of my money back and i'm not gonna break every synth and gain 0 skill up on 95% of the time, right?
It's just more time spent crafting if i'm breaking that much, and honestly i could make the difference up in lost money in 1 single balance ring synth lol.
I've been avoiding doing this cloth sub like the plague, but i must be like the only 100 goldsmith who cant make a manteel >< damn SE for manteel. If it werent for that one single synth, we wouldnt even need this dumb sub lol
btw xurion, you have the absolutely coolest crafting sig, dunno if i told you that before but that one does crack me up lol.

Thanks stubbie
I was thinking it was time for change. I've had it since WotG release.
There is an element of truth to it though, as I imagine you can relate to at times. Damn HQs.

Yah my current dilemma lies in the mythical kaiser shield, I've managed to get one HQ long long ago, unless that was just a dream (it may or may not have happened, i was drinking heavily at the time), and since then... complete failure ; ;
I got the typical moron earring +1's triumph earrings and genius rings tho !!! (which are currently not selling as hot as I'd like)

I'm having troubles right now shifting my regular profit items. There seems to be too many on sale at once. I'm hoping this is temporary.
I lol'd when I saw stacks of shihei toolbags on my server hit 31k today. If people work it out, you can minus the cost of the Wijruits used to bag them up, along with the AH tax, and sell the shihei (individual for 25g each) to an NPC, saving you 700g~ in the long run.
