Sorry, i was unable to find this information in any of the guides or at least it was not specific enough. My ww is 98 and i am going to be doing the steel splitters i think for the last two levels, the recipe says it requires 60 smithing as a sub. My smithing is currently 45 and i'm not sure if i should level it to 60 because i have heard tons of different things from different people, some ww'er told me to keep smithing low as a sub so the splitters will break more and therefor save mats. but what level is low? not sure if my level is good or not. Someone else told me to get it to 60 for the splitters or else you wont get ww skill off the synths >_> any input and help is greatly appreciated, i just dont know what to do!

I personally didn't do it as my smithing was already high. Get overpowering wind energy to minimize chance of materials lost.

Well do you think my level of 45 is sufficient enough for this synth? i mean some people say having a low level sub is an advantage cause you can fail and save mats but still get skills. what do you mean by overpowering wind energy lol?

Before you can proceed you need to learn about elemental wind energy in your MH. Go to http://ffxi.somepage.com/itemdb/furniture.php and check it out. Once you're understood that and got yourself the sufficient energy, you can begin your synths.

weird, according to this site there are not enough enhancement wind items yo obtain overwhelming but maybe i just dont understand it that well. Say if i do get the overwhelming wind enhancement, is my sub of 45 sufficient?

Did you have overwhelming wind energy to save the mats from breaks? or is 47 a high enough so the synth wont break? thanks ^^

Sorry for this slightly side tracking question, but would be fairly pointless to make a whole new thread for this.
So I was just wondering, my Woodworking is currently 69.4, and I was just thinking what would be the smartest/cheapest way to go for 100? I know every server has their own prices, but I´ve noticed from here on up to 100, the recipes are either insanely expensive, or a little less expensive, so in that matter I dont think it matters much on which server you are. I´ve been making Tarutaru F. Screens as much as I can find materials for (eats alot ingredients but seems to be the cheapest option atm), and Clothospoles aside with those (not fixing, since I dont really like fishing). But if somebody with more experience/knownledge of this could shed some light this way, I´d really appreciate it. :satisfied

Follow the KI guides, which ever you find the cheapest. If you have a lot of free time, farm the materials. Its the only way to make it cheaper.

Regarding the breaksynth technic basically here are the rules:
the craft you want to level while breaking must be within 5 lvl of the cap of the item you intend to level on (otherwise no skillup on break).
Problem is if you are within 5 lvl, the chance of actually not break is high (unless you are crafting haubergeon ^^). So the trick is to take a synthesis with a sub craft and leave this subcraft far from the cap for the synth intended. Knowing you can craft anything if your lvl is within 15 lvl of the cap for a particuliar synth (support or items doesnt play there) the best way is to be 5- lvl from the cap on the targeted craft and as close to -15 as possible for the subcraft.
In your case you are in the 5 lvl gap to skill on break (98 compared to 100 I believe) and your are as well far from the cap on smithing (45 for 60 I believe). so go for it, and add wind enhancement to help with break ^^
