Dancer Spells

(Note: I didn't really go through all of the past topics to see if there was one like this, so please forgive me if there is.)

I was thinking if anyone had like thought of a spell list that Dancers might have? I ask because, I remember reading somewhere before that someone had actually thought up a seemingly convincing list of Time Mage spells so was thinking if anyone had any ideas for Dancer. My thoughts on the spells are in parenthesis.

(WARNING: Lots of text below, read at your own risk and please don't be mad v.v)

To start things off I thought i'd list some stuff from Previous FFs for those unfamiliar with the series:

From FFT:

Witch Hunt: Dance causes MP damage with a mysterious costume.
[Small amount of damage] (This would obviously lower mobs MP or maybe silence)

Wiznaibus: Dance causes HP damage with powerful
dance steps.
[Small amount of damage] (Speaks for itself tongue.gif)

Slow Dance: Dance lowers enemies' Speed level by
confusing them with slow dance movements.
[Reduces Speed by 1] (Of course this would slow enemies)

Polka Polka: Dance with vivacious moves. Lowers
physical attack power.
[Reduces physical attack power by 1] (This would of course lower mob atk power.)

Disillusion: Dance lowers enemies' magic attack power
by distracting them with a mysterious
costume. (Lowering MAP)

Nameless Dance: Dance with unexplainable moves. Causes various abnormal status.

Add: Darkness, Confusion, Silence, Frog,
Poison, Slow, Stop, Sleep
(If this is implemented I'm guessing it would be like a dance version of "Bad Breath" so it doesn't seem completely out of the loop.)

Last Dance: Ultimate dance. Turns enemies' CT count to 0.
(Would more the likely be renamed and maybe a Bind effect or maybe Doom biggrin.gif)

From FF X-2:

Darkness Dance: Causes Darkness on all enemies while dancing. (Seems reasonable.)

Samba of Silence: Causes Silence on all enemies while dancing. (Seems reasonable.)

MP Mambo: Reduce party MP cost to 0 while dancing. (Maybe could be used as an ability or Merit ability later on.)

Magical Masque: Party is protected from magic attack while dancing. (Seems reasonable.)

Sleepy Shuffle: Causes Sleep on all enemies while dancing. (Seems reasonable.)

Carnival Cancan: Party's max HP is doubled while dancing. (Seems reasonable, like a low level version of Mantra)

Slow Dance: Causes Slow on all enemies while dancing. (Seems reasonable)

Brakedance: Causes Stop on all enemies while dancing. (Not really sure but, could be used in a different way.)

Jitterbug: Give party a Haste effect while dancing. (Move over Garuda happy.gif)

Dirty Dancing: Party deals critical damage while dancing. (Warriors would get jealous that Dancers can dancer their 2hour tongue.gif)

Battle Cry: Increases party's Strength stat. (A great way for them to use Etudes in a different fashion.)

Cantus Firmus: Increases party's Defense stat. (Move over Minne!)

Esoteric Melody: Increases party's Magic stat. (Manaburn anyone tongue.gif)

Disenchant: Increases party's Magic Defense stat. (For some endgame or some such)

Perfect Pitch: Increases party's Accuracy stat. (Melee would love this!)

Matador's Song: Increases party's Evasion stat. (Ninja would love this! or Dancer tank tongue.gif)

Anyways, this is a little hint for some Dancer spells that may be put into the game. This is mainly for those who aren't familiar with the older versions of Dancer. If anyone would like to add anything that'd be great happy.gif

Remember that it isn't Dancer in FFX-2, it's Songstress, so Dancer in FFXI probably won't be singing any of them Songstress songs given that Bards can already sing.

wait a sec, mantra isn't slightly close to something that doubles the max HP, how can this be a lower version?

Well I figured that instead of songstress it would be used in the form of a dance.

Mantra increases the max HP of party members so, like it's kinda the same except "while dancing" part lol.

increases of a small amount like +50 hp?

Double the Max HP would have devastating effects on the game balance, PLD/MNK with Martial Anelace would become the strongest DD to throw at a a HNM XD

I really have to doubt that there will be any "while dancing" effects, simply due to the fact that while your dancing you cant do anything else. Being able to only do one thing at a time would make this job the worst job in ffxi, unless the dances had insane benefits. So something like Samba of Silence would be horrible and pointless since you would have to keep dancing to keep the mob silenced, but it would be much more beneficial to just try to land the actual silence spell on it.

Then again you can look at it the other way, these dances could be TOO powerful. Do the Sleepy Shuffle to an HNM and go afk while your pt beats it down and it'll never wake up. Or you could have a Dancer use a buff on the pt and afk/leech exp while thier char just dances.

I dunno if you ment it in the way I thought you did, but imo youll only dance for the casting animation. Although I'm sure a lot of the dances will have these simular effects only work more like MPless spells.

You have some interesting ideas about what from ffx2 would be "reasonable" in ffxi.

Sounds like Dancer could be like Mog from ff6, where he gets new dances from different combat areas in the game. i think that could translate into a certain # of times you fight a species you get a new or upgraded dance spell.

Nah i think in FFXI dances will have a short animation that will last more or less like a BRD song casting time then they will have an effect that will remain for a certain amount of time.

I know that putting it that way dancer becomes pretty similar to a BRD but hey if it works why change it?

Anyway you can clearly see from the trailer that Dancers have a stopping pose, which to me means the dances will not be continous but will have a start and an end.

I'm guessing maybe some spells from FF5 will be added in I really hope these will be good. "These are just Idea's that IMO Dancer should have"
Jitterbug: Drains HP
Sword Dance: 4x Damage-(Either make 2hr or a Tier II merit would be way way too cheap to be as a regular move if they do get it I will be very very suprised)
Tempt Tango: Confuses Enemy (maybe a charm ability or spell)
Wonder Waltz: Drains MP

Hiyoku. :
who fucking cares, wait until the expansion comes out

It's fun to speculate. It keeps the wheels of our imagination turning and the wait a bit more tolerable. Every expansion pack we speculate, and we do this for every update as well. So, let people speculate as much as they want. As long as it stays within the opening poster's topic, then it should be fine.

EDIT: And, thank you, Norrelle for reposting that spell list. I had them posted in the other topic "NEW JOB DANCER," but got buried by other responses.

I'm going to have to toss my lot in with the idea that we won't get any sustained dances. As MIR pointed out, the trailer shows the dance animation clearly having an end, much like a BRD song.

I'd have responded sooner, but I went of the Halo 3 midnight release thingy tongue.gif

Thank you for those who enjoy my small attempt to spark some interest.

For the others I meant that all these old songs/dances would be used in that short Dancer animation, not like for a long period of dancing, I meant like a normal spell lol.
