I'll take a step back and answer directly to the op since probably we are staying from the real intended topic.

If SE introduced ANOTHER job for males only that had the SAME functions and abilities as Dancer, which may be female-only, would everyone be opposed to that idea?

First off, it's not a matter of opposing or not opposing. Would i oppose the idea of a Female only job? No, even if i personally think it's a very bad idea.

That being said, the question here is why SE should do such a thing. We know that throught the job change system players have the chance to level different jobs without any need to level multiple characters. The player base seems very happy about that and SE seems to take pride on this decision which is something you don't find in any other MMORPG. Why should SE change it?

Now the op ask "what if there is another male jobs with the same functions and abilities as dancer?"

Ok this would need better clarifications.

WHat do you mean with that? Because if you mean "same role" i'm pretty sure Dancer will not be that different from a BRD or a COR, beside the roles are already well defined:

Tank
DD
Healer
Support

No matter how many new jobs can invent, those four roles are there and they won't change unless you totally change the game play. And considering what happened on SWG i doubt SE will ever do such a thing.

How similar these two jobs should be? If you are talking about exactly same abilities, same buffs, same debuffs, same pro and cons, then for the love of god, why should you do that? What's the point?
It would be just a male dancer with a different name.

That would be like saying: Ninja for males and Kunoichi for females. pointless.

Unless you say they do the same thing but they don't dance (because dance is gay? seriously...)
Then what should they do? tell jokes?
We already have BRDs that perform with songs and instruments. What else could you perform?

To sum it up:

Same job with different names: pointless

Same job with a different performance: See above and male players will still bitch 'cause they can't dance.

Same role with slightly different abilities and features: So we can witness another XXX vs XXX war? as if NIN vs PLD, best DD E-penis contests wouldn't be enough?


Frankly speaking this sounds to me more lame than the idea of having a female only job and a male only job that are completely different.

This is very true, on most armor swts I get pants while female characters in the same armor get a beaver-strap.

For everything you listed there was plenty of evidence it was going to happen, None of which is true with this theory.

Perhaps they released this video at the TGS because apparently JP have enough common sense
to realize that flashing a few seconds of a new job to confirm it will exist does not merit/deserve endless
topics of speculation before we even know what it even does.

They also said that they'd never add new weapon skills to the game because of the memory limitations of the PS2 and they're adding new ones to WoTG. You can't go by past logic because SE does change its mind about certain things. You can't go by past trends. WoTG goes against tradition anyways doesn't it? I mean RoTZ had new jobs, CoP didn't, ToAU had new jobs, WoTG now has new jobs. I don't think you can go by the tavern scene alone. I mean, the two guys in the back were clearly backup dancers and she was the focus. This scene in the trailer wasn't like a demo of dancer it was like a pre-rendered CS. The only scenes that actually show real dancers were female. I think its possible that they could make dancer female only, but I don't think it will. With that being said, who cares? If you're a male, and think male dancers are stupid don't level it. Its probably going to be slightly more popular with the female community in the game, but there will be guys lvling it too.

could easily be CS or Dancer En-dance. Youve gotta remember that these videos are made as just that, Videos.

They arent in game videos, theyre just videos. They could be adding WS who knows, Throwing skill could use that.

Dancer is going to be mail... it's only logic because.

1. It's pretty obvious a lot of people with a male character want to play it.
2. I doubt SE would want to make a job 1 gender only, since no one wants to go through genkais, zilart, or CoP missions just for a fucking job.

Also, if you look at AF on each gender/race combo, there's quite a few differences between the AF on some of them. Take Ninja for example... if you notice most male characters wear a Haidate type armor for the legs, yet females wear something that looks like a pair of tight pants.

And that AF could be male easy, after all it's not the only gay looking AF males have ever worn. (WAR, THF, harness sets... etc.) Also, it wouln't be THAT hard to make it cover the rest of their body.

Anyways, Dancer as female only? Yes, Bard was the male only equivilant in previous jobs. Though, when I look at the trailer, I dont really see the same as a bard/dancer. Bards in the FFXI universe are not going to change to one gender specific, the reason isnt so much just in the players, its also in the NPCs scattered all over the FFXI world. Its a dual gender class, thats not going to change. But the thing is, Bards in FFXI arent what I see Dancers are. Bards are storytellers and memory revivers, they tell you the stories of your past.

Dancers are apparently entertainers, so whats a good male equivilant entertainer? A Jester. Would I totally dig the idea of becomming a sadistic clown? Oh my yes, I can already see the .dat guys making ICP shit. lol (not that I actually like ICP, I think its pretty weak personally, but I can still see that happening.)

Now, Dancer can very well (and most likely will) be a dual gender class. Or, it can be a specific gender and SE can release another gender. Will SE worry if it makes some of the population butthurt cause they cant play a job cause they're one or the other? Probably not a whole fucking lot to be honest lol You care that much? Make a new character for it. Also, saying 'SE would never do this cause'..well, for any reason. Are you a game programmer? Do you work for SE? Do you, in any fashion, besides in your own creative and deluded imagination have any concept or grasp on the way the FFXI team thinks, or moreso, what angles they are working towards? If not, then just for the love of God shut the hell up about what SE will and will not do. Us as the gamers should never, ever say what the game producers can and cannot, or will or willnot do. But speculate and think about what they COULD do. They may not do it, but its not cause your some deep thinker and the FFXI team comes on KI specifically to see what you think of their product, then make their crucial and massive money making decisions off of. They wont, get over yourself and your opinions on that and join the train of having fun with exploring different ideas instead of closed minded, stubborn beliefs of what cannot happen.

PS. Also, dont bother quoting anything from the past of SE saying "We wont do this" because so and so. They say that alot of times. Now, I'm going to hypocrit myself a little here and offer a suggestion as to why they say that. They say it, because at the time of the question, they arent going to really think about it. They probably have enough things to worry about than to focus on that idea. Do they keep notes? I imagine they do. Obviously they've taken considerable attention towards storage options, they said they couldnt do it, yet they have. So dont bother quoting any previous interviews saying that SE has denied any possabilties to anything. They can, at will, change the game.

PS. 2! Also, yes, SE most likely does check these and other forums to draw thoughts and opinions from the players. But seeing as how the expansion is already near completion, the jobs are already made and they're more than likely tweaking them at the present time. No, I really dont think they're going to care anymore about whether or not if people are intensely against the idea of different gender jobs at this point in time. Of course, SE has and will continue to make very bad judgment calls on their own game that will piss off the community incredibly. But in the end, I think there's far more people who will enjoy this Dancer(female) and (something) (male) job idea than those who are against it.

Not just some, but a whole lot.

Believe it or not, SE listens to its customers and changes and adapts to it. Notice updates like the recent 2 hander update made. Why was it made? Because we felt it was unfair that most people getting parties are those who sub NIN to every god damn job and have to dual wield to make a party function. No one could have fun with any job because they were forced into doing it one way instead of how they would like to play. This is the reason you have contradicted yourself. You say that SE won't worry, but they do. And they change and adapt to suit us, the ones paying them to stay in business. If we get butthurt, SE puts a band-aid on it. If they know it would possibly cause controversy, like is has before even coming out that Dancer would be a female only job, they would stop it before it starts and fix it now before it comes out. They haven't announced it was going to be female only. They haven't announced it wasn't. But to get worked up over it is just unneeded stress.

Again, SE listens to us. They draw ideas from us. They use us, the consumer, as a basis for what to make the game. They waited on BLU COR and PUP AF way after the jobs were released. Why? Because they needed time to see how we play the jobs before they could make the armor. With Dancer, it will be the same. If SE see's us complaining Dancer is a female only job, they will fix it. Why would we complain if it was for both genders? We wouldn't complain. And most likely SE knows this and will not make Dancer female only. They will, like mentioned above, wait to make the AF before they know how the job will be played. And in the meantime will most likely be developing AF for both genders.

Bolded: Just wanted to point out that they do have emails set up for suggestions and comments about the game that they do answer to. (I know, I've suggested things to SE myself and they personally responded to it.) But I guess that's doesn't count. I guess we're not allowed to have a say in the game we're paying them montly for. And I guess those updates we're cause they just felt like it.

I have to say that even tho males are gonna be able to be dancers as well, I guarentee the female dances are gonna look way cooler . If the male human is the same in the trailer its really lame. I bet most males will have similar dances except maybe male taru, and galka. The male hume dance is just so bleh. The female one however is <3
