Lol, why do people have quote wars? What a waste of space.
Never the less, In other FF games where dancer was used they used swords, daggers. But the closest thing to FF11 online is
FF 10 x 2 or w/e that crap is. Those lady characters fall under the dancer job, and they used Staff's and Guns, Which kind of blows
Everything all around the globe.
So, For all we know, Dancer's might be like warriors and be able to use a lot of different weaps and be effective with them. But dagger's will most likly be there highest skill.
Srsly though, It's really hard to say, maybe dagger's are ganna be a shit level for them, and who knows, they most likley will not be able to use dancing edge. Compare it to the fact that PUPs can only use h2h ws's and can do what Howling fists only?
Meh.. We'll really have to wait and see what SE does, Arguing over it isn't going to help make the expantion come earlier lol.
Btw, Who know's maybe they add in a new ammo for dancers?

Dancer is not going to be a melee job, so honestly it doesn't matter what their highest weapon skill is.

I'm not saying it will be a Melee job, Or a ranged DD, or a DD in general.
Not sure if you've noticed, But COR is a buff job.. and i've played with some COR that can out damage RANGERS with sidewinder.
So honestly, at this moment while the game's not out, You can't say anything really lol. For all we know, They might be exactly like COR, and be able to throw down a lot of melee damage. Going to have to wait and see.
So it'll probly fall under BUFF/DEBUFF/DD?

Of course I can't prove it until the expansion comes out but I really think its obvious. I mean the description mentions magic which they can use on themselves and enemies. The emphasis is definitely on magic. This means that its more then likely not going to be good at meleeing.

Ok? The dark knight also mentions and emphasizes the use of their weapons tho. It says that they've learned how to use certain black magic spells. What does the dancer description tell us? They use dancing magic on themselves and on enemies. We do now know if these will be limited single/self target buffs or party buffs, and we do now know if the other will be enfeebles or nukes. The other half of it basically just tells us that we will get this job in the past. There is no mention of melee capabilities and so I do not think that it will be a focus of the job.

Then why would they get dagger and be in close range melee during the movie?

Because they didn't want to show us how the job works yet. Trailers are completely for show. They wanted to announce dancer to the community and they want to get people excited over it. They also wanted to keep people in suspense. They let us know that it uses dancing magic however they did not tell us what this magic is used for yet (support, healing, magic DD). They need action shots for the trailer. What else looks fancy other then the dancing? The only thing I can think of is showing a dancer in full AF using WSs for a weapon which they can use. If they had announced BRD they prob would have shown a clip of it playing an instrument and then not showing what the spell did. They then probably would have also shown it using dagger WSs to make the job look more appealing without giving anything away. As to why were they in melee range? You need to be in melee range to use a WS lol.

Precisely. Skill in weapon and how well it's utilized will essentially determine what the defacto subjob will be so it will most certainly matter.

It's true that a trailer doesn't necessarily predict the exact outcome. But I invite you to look at the ToAU trailer again, particularly towards the end when they reveal the corsair and puppetmaster jobs (the blue mage job was revealed for the first time in a previous trailer).
http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/ahturhgan/index.html
Simply put, the corsair is revealed performing a roll and shooting a gun. The puppetmaster is seen with a puppet. In the previous trailer, the blue mage was shown casting Heat Breath and the spider's slowga (which was never added).
The point is, when they've shown a new job, they've shown their main features.
I don't think the emphasis on dancers fighting was a mistake. I don't think the description strongly suggesting dancer is a "front line" job (and yes, they use the words "front line") is a mistake either. I really think they intend to have dancers fighting with daggers to do their job.
Now, we all know, daggers are lousy weapons, so if they don't add something to make daggers in the hands of dancers better than they are, then dancers will probably be pressured not to fight. If they can do something useful without fighting, then that's what they'll do, I'm not disputing that. But, I'm reasonably sure SE is not oblivious to this problem. They designed blue mages, for example, to do well at front-line combat, so I'm inclined to say that they "get it."
If they mean for dancers to be on the "front line," they are going to design it in a way to justify their presence there.

the use of 'front line' in the description refers to "warriors on the front lines". They aren't specifically stating that dancer is a front line job... Whether it is or not, isn't to say till release.
