Just a quick question for you folks who camped your Moldy Earring, what was the competition like?

I'm asking because I decided that I've been lazy enough up until this point, and it was about time I camped mine, only competition has been fierce to say the least. I counted 15 people at one point today! and was pretty surprised, I was expecting a handful at most.

Is this sort of competition to be expected or am I right in believing I was just unlucky today? I dont know whether to stick it out or come back another day when there isnt so much competition.

I'm guessing most of them were camping in groups, a group of 3 got the claim, I've no idea if they got the drop, I asked and was ignored, miserable sods!

I've camped it 3-4 times for a few friends and every time there was either no one or like 1 person there. Usually went after 11 pm EST though.

It varies greatly. I remember both this NM and VE having fierce competition many times that I camped it. If you stay consistent about camping it though, I think eventually you will catch a break and have only one or two others to compete against. When I got the drop off both NMs, I was the only one camping it. Good luck, the earring is totally worth the effort spent camping it.

Yeah I noticed, I logged and came back 2 hours later seeing as I had the TOD, and only had competition from 2 people the second pop, I was a little slow on the claim though a nin got to it before me. Still only 10 mins until the window is up again so third time lucky hopefully, and on that note I'm logging in lol

It depends, when I went to get mine there was no one there and I got mine 1/1, 2nd time I checked on LoO and he was up again with no one there, again 1/1 for friend. 3rd Time there was 7 people there and we missed 1st claim but got 2nd and went 1/1 again so lol...maybe i'm lucky.

it was just bad luck i guess. When i got mine i was alone (the other person left like 5 minutes before pop lol). The other times i've gone there to get it for my friends there has been lots of competition though, i'm 5/6 currently on it . And the last couple of times i've know about him was when a friend has gone there to farm some meat and he was up alone...has happened 3 times now >.>

When I got mine there was only a AFK NIN there and he never seemed to come back even a few minutes after I killed him. But when I was camping OSE a few months later there were 10+ people there. It is one of those randomly camped mobs just do a /search and see how many people are there before heading out if you want to avoid the headache of heavy camping.

When I did mine I stuck around just killing gobs left and right hoping for a chest key to drop and farmed a tad bit of gil but when I went after Mysticmaker there was about 7 people that I was camping against 3 of whom where either boted or afk'd. Killed as Blu/thf got drop on first try 1/1. All I can say is though is kill the surrounding gobs that pop along side him because if you don't it just makes the fight harder than what it needs to be.

Well I got mine with a bunch of friend 1/1 and no one was camping it but im more unlucky on Ose watch out and this is true 0/28

I got mine when nobody was camping, was helping with SAM AF, Mysticmaker was just walking around....popped LoO as well lol, no drop

In my experience most NMs that don't have silly spawn times (Argus, Fei'Yin nms, or 21-24 hr) generally have times when noone is camping them. Just have to figure out when that is and go for it.
Agree with Sirfalas that later is usually better to have less competition.
Get the tod then keep coming back when the window re-opens. Brief a friend to kill everything in the room to make it easier to spot when it pops.
When I camped mine I had 3 people in a party camping it. Whm/bst for the win, though. I remember because they were so pissed off that a whm claimed it and got the drop. Whm was the only 75 job I had at the time. It gave me a chuckle they were so mad. I got lucky and went 1/1. :love

i was normally up agains 3/4 people doing mine but i was plain unlucky 1/10 ; ; at least i got it tho lol and made cash while doing it ^^

When I got mine, there were 5-7 other people there killing and camping. It poped in the center of them, and I claimed it with Dia (dont ask me how ><) luck plays a big factor in it.

I'm really surprised with the competiton so far, I honestly didnt expect much. I started off as Rdm/Blm

Pop 1: 15 campers, no claim.
Pop 2: 3 Campers, no claim.
Pop 3: 3 Campers, mob got claimed as I answered the door (of all the crappy luck lol).

Changed to /War for voke.

Pop 4: 6 Campers, got claim but no drop.
Pop 5: 6 Campers, got claim but no drop.
Pop 6: 7 Campers, no claim.
Pop 7: 7 Campers, no claim. This one was really odd, popped in front of me and I thought it was mine, I started spamming my voke macro and got the cant attack tartget, target already claimed message, even though no one had done anything yet, I got the message 3 times in a row before the nin finally voked and got the claim, I guess it was lag ><

The funny thing is, nobody that has claimed has got the drop yet, I thought this was a 50% drop? (The rdm I mentioned earlier who wouldnt tell us if he had gotten it is camping it again no so I'd assume no). Forgive my rant lol, I'm just trying to pass the time until the next window lol.

Eh, lots of people go 1/1 on it, plenty more go far more than 1/2. I was 1/7 on the drop, and about 7/14 on claims. So I don't think I'd call it a 50% drop rate, though I am horribly unlucky with drops, so that might skew my opinion.

At least Mysticmaker is a dependable pop and all.

i went 1/1 on this with no one there but an afk war. you should always search the area before heading out for this cuz there aer times when no one is there for a while and it might be up when you get there(very rare). but at least you know you arent going to be competing against 10-15 ppl.

Well, i camped him, alone, around 2005 but lemme see...there were two moments that i went after him. The first time there was another BLM and some other guy, didnt claim.

On the second time, however, there was only a BST over there who seemed more interested in killing stuff with his manta pet, claimed it and soloed for 1/1 drop ^^

Just keep at it and do your best, it'll drop eventualy(you might wanna get some other players to help you out)
