Hey all,

Having issues trying to camp Charybdis. Been working on keeping track of the ToD (when POL isn't randomly having fatal errors during work hours) for the last two weeks.

This week alone (the one that's only half over) I've had a positive time on the "window" (I use that word loosely) and despite being there killing the mantas for a good half hour before the window, and over an hour after, Charybdis isn't popping when we try and get him. Last night my friends an I spent 7 hours trying to get Charybdis to pop.

Hell, from what I heard from a friend who got ToD, it respawned 26 hours after the last pop. I know the first... 20 hours it didn't pop, because I left my character on overnight to try and get the ToD when we gave up after 7 hours.

Is there something I'm missing that is the reason I can't get this thing to appear during the expected window? I can't commit people to waiting 26 hours for him to pop, I and my friends are people who work for a living, who can't be on call for days at a time. For all the talk I hear about this NM being an easy one to predict, this is getting ridiculous in the most extreme sense of the word I can think of.

Charybdis doesnt spawn for 8+ hours after ToD so basically once it dies wait 8 hours then go back then start killing mantas it will pop any time after that 8 hour time limit is up. an example lets say Chary dies at 12:00 est then his window will not start until 8pm that night then its all random when he can pop. I figured it out the hard way. my best advice would get a THF + BRD + WHM or RDM those 3 can trio Charybdis without a problem.

Yeah... as I previously said in my earlier post, I *KNOW* that you wait 8 hours after the ToD. It's the 7 hours after that where I couldn't get Charybdis to spawn for the life of me that are pissing me off. It doesn't matter what jobs I bring, I don't know many people who can sit there for 7+ hours just killing PHs and waiting, most of us have JOBS.

Yeah it's rare but Chary can do that >.< He's an 8hr-whenever he feels like popping window. Players have gone 12~ hours without seeing him, just keep at it and you'll get him eventually.

I find what you're saying kind of hard to believe. Not calling you a liar or anything but maybe you just messed up on the ToD or something. I camped this NM for 3 months straight and never had an incident like this happen. His window opens 8 hrs after his ToD and never went past the 4 hr mark after that, other than the one time my friend thought it would be funny to charm the PH and keep it charmed. Just so you know in case you didn't already he only has one PH. There is 2 manta's that pop in the room with Charybdis and the PH is the one that has the ability to pop in the room and outside the room, I am 100% sure of this as I said I camped him 3 months straight and he ALWAYS popped on that one. Sorry about your luck so far but keep it up because the sword is well worth the time you put into getting it.

I've had it happen to me. 8hrs after ToD wouldn't pop forever. Such is the life of lotto NMs;;

I find it har to believe you camped it 3 months straight and never saw it go a ridiculous amount of time to pop. I've seen it take 21+ hours to spawn.

It's ridiculous sometimes the way the lotto's work. SE just needs to make all lotto mobs force spawn. At least then you can farm the pop item when you have time and then fight the nm when you have time instead of wasting 8 hours killing ph just for the nm to not spawn.

And fix Argus damnit, the drop rate already sucks, so why is it necessary to have a 18-36hr respawn window shared with Leech King for a R/E item. Yeah the amulet pwns but..... c'mon!

He's total lottery mob there is no close to his window. If anything his pop rate goes up slightly after 4-8 hrs. I've literally watched Chary waited 8 hrs (standing there awake) watching people kill PHs and killing PHs when I had help for a good 18 hrs before I gave up after being up for 30 hrs. Chary was among the darkest moments in FFXI for me I was very close to quitting after experiencing that and being out lotted by someone when I was the one who camped the ToD.

I love when you camp Chary by yourself and you get it to pop 1st window and no one in LS is on/care/will help unless they can lot.

from what i was told, if u attack the other mantas, that arnt the PH, they increase the period of time u have to wait for him to pop from the correct PH.

the shortest period of time ive ever seen him pop was 7hours. ive yet to get him, ppl either fall asleep, or have to leave, or im just there getting ToD.

After the window pops (8 hours after the ToD) Chary has a 10-15% to pop instead of the Mante PH First time I camped I waited 1 hour after window second time it was 5~6 hours its just how lucky you are with the 10-15%

When i went to camp Charby to get my sword i killed mantras for about 30min and he popped. I didn't even know the TOD, i just went there to log and wile screwing around for a wile and 10seconds before i logged out i saw him pop. Took him down easily with NIN, DNC and BRD. Yeah i know i got extremely lucky. SE definitely needs to change these NM's these nm's to forced pop or something easier. Not everyone has 2days to sit there just to find out TOD.
