I have a question about how which item at the AH gets picked to be sold.
A few days ago (about 3 I think) I put some silver ingots up for 24k at the Bastok AH. There were 7 other ingots up when I did this.
3 days later they still haven't sold. There are now 15 stacks up for sale, and at least 10 have sold today alone, 7+ of which were for 24k.
How come all these newer stacks are getting sold at the price I set days ago, and mine still haven't moved? Is there any way to increase the priority on mine, without undercutting? You'd think older stacks would get picked first, assuming the price matches up, but this doesn't seem to be the case for me....

Auction House Priority?

I believe it is based on the price in which the item is put up for bid...
Example:
Item History shows nothing but 24K...
You put something up for 24K...
5 People after you put it up for 22K...
the lower item... gets taken first I believe...
Like... you have 12 Earth Crystals... you check the History...300g... and there are currently 54 on sale...
If you (this is what I do) place the item on sale for 201 or 251, and it sells in a matter of seconds.... you know yours sold way before some that have been put up for auction... no way ddi 54 stacks get sold and 54 more get put back on auction that fast...
so... I think I am right considering the Earth Crystal thing... same w/ Goby Armor and all ;ş

I really hate it when people do that.
On the other hand, I'd rather have that than everyone pricing stuff like 100 lower and driving down the prices... *sigh*

Here's a tip for n00bs regarding cheap stuff (Spells like Silence for instance). Bid 1 or 5 gils at a time. ^_~ Or increments of 10s, 50s or 100s for medium stuff and then 100s or 250s or 500s for expensive items. When I want something like zinc ores, I do the same. This is why you might see the history like this:
##/##/## aaaaaa0 -> bbbbbb0 300 gils
##/##/## aaaaaa0 -> bbbbbb1 300 gils
##/##/## aaaaaa1 -> bbbbbb2 300 gils
##/##/## aaaaaa2 -> bbbbbb3 259 gils
##/##/## aaaaaa1 -> bbbbbb3 277 gils
##/##/## aaaaaa4 -> bbbbbb4 300 gils
You should know that some of the sellers want to "cut" in line. Well, make them pay! :B Besides, an AH is trying to get the best possible value for your items, as a seller and/or buyer. ^^ If sellers want to move their items fast, they shouldn't recklessly risk loss pricing things frivolously lower just so they can move "ahead" in line. If they get burned, the next time they'll be sure to price is just a little lower enough to have it sell but not so low that someone coming along (like me) will torch them again. ^^
Also another tip. Check with the NPCs first before putting things on AH. I notice that a lot of people are retarded in selling items on AH 10 to 100% lower than what they could've gotten from the NPCs. If enough people did their homework, then prices on items that are ridiculously low on AH will rise back up where they should be and other sellers will be more than happy with that. This is true for stuff like weapons, armor and the like. I am so tired of hearing people bitch and whine about how difficult it is to make money or why their stuff don't return more than it should on AH ~_~

Its ok for people to sell for less or more than the current AH price, it may go down but it will go up again. If the price of a certain item goes down, its because theres lots in stock and people want to sell fast... then when there is hardly any in stock, those players will most likely bring the price back up. Its just like a real life economy, up and down, supply and demand.
Dont complain when people sell their junk for less. That their choice if they want to lose money rather than wait.

wasn't complaining ^^ just sucks that put mine up for 5990 now heh, used to be 7990 ;P don't really care either way it's still a good profit.
but it's true about the suppy/demand thing, there's usually 80-100 darksteel on jeuno AH now-a-days ; ;

Exactly. If you want to sell something, put it 10 gil under what you want and it'll sell first (unless someone put it up for 20 gil less, or whatever).

The only thing you're doing is whining about it. If you want it to change, do something about it. Play the market. If you see an item lower then you think it should be and there's a small supply (and you have the gil), buy all those items at the price they're going at and resell them higher. You make a profit from it with only spending some gil. Think of it as the stock market. You invest a certain amount of cash in a company (item in this case), and when that company (or item) becomes more popular and there's a higher demand for it, people will pay more for it. That will in turn, raise the value of your stocks which will then make you not only what you invested in the company/item but some profit as well.
Note: This will NOT work with common items such as Goblin items, Crafting materials, etc. Only rare/uncommon items.
Either way, just whining about it won't change it.
