Thanks for taking the time to gather this information. This article is very informative.
Newb ranger here and the information here helps me tremendously.
So did I get these conclusions right?
1) Ammo delay doesn't affect firing rate - (shocker). It however boosts TP gain.
2) Gun Delay is appx 110/ second as opposed to melee delay of 60/second
My questions:
Being level 56, I recently acquired Slug Shot. I am mostly a Crossbow ranger using status bolts. I have a MG+1 but I rarely use it. Primarily because we tend to find Def. Up mobs and acid bolts do a great job of neutralizing them. I use my gun on rare occasions but Spider-Dan makes a very compelling case at this level to do more testing with MG+1 and silver bullets.
Optimizing my crossbow-
- Should I stay @ 15 feet distance (max WS distance) when doing both DOT and ws? Does it make sense to be in melee range? (3.5 feet?). I want to get dagger TP during the lag time if possible but does it have diminishing returns with my XBOW dot?
- I like XBOW quite a bit and many people (primarily JP) do not like the "Noukin" ranger. Do I lag behind considerably from Gun damage if I use Acid for def down, DOT with Holy bolts, WS/Barrage with DS bolts?
Optimizing my gun-
- Same question as above. Should I be in melee range when using gun? Doing a little math it seems that with MG+1 and silver bullets I can attain 100TP with 6 shots. Should the raw damage compel me to stick with this and ditch the XBOW?
- Is there any tank that can realistically keep hate off me if I go MG+1?
Thanks,
Megido - cerb

You don't word your conclusion correctly. It's critical you know... once someone take someone else's words, even if it's true, a slight mistake can be a big mistake
Ammo delay doesn't affect aiming rate. As a consequence, higher ammo delay gives boosts to TP gain for TP returned by compound ranged weapons (bows, xbows, guns) is based on total delay of ranged weapon's and ammo's
All ranged weapons have delay/second approximately 110. Compound ranged weapons have extra ~2.85 total seconds overhead, after the shoot land/miss the target, before you can initiate your next ranged attack.
My simple answers to all your question: do melee when TPing, take few steps back till you're on optimal distance for WS.
That's the proper way to use crossbow

Lurker one last question. Is there such thing as r.acc overkill? I ask because I play regularly with my JP friends who stress upon me to focus on r.acc. Reading the article, there are references to having r.acc build and using r.att food.
I at the moment do not- primarily because I like landing as much slug shots as possible. But, having fairly good equipment, at times I feel it's getting to be overkill as the IT mobs I fight near my VT range.
My general build for 56:
Food - Squid sushi +1
61 r.acc
+22agi
http://www.ffxiah.com/cerberus/megido
for current ranger gearlist
Thanks,
Meg

Ditch the sushi, and eat meat. You should have no problems with acc.

This is the exact reason why i didn't want to encourage musk+1. Without any store TP traits or store TP+ gear you can't achieve a 6 hit build with this weapon. your setup overall is nice; i just hope you don't WS or TP in striders.

God I have seen so many RNGs tp and ws in Striders / Trotters boots post 50+ its ridicoulous.

I try not to WS and TP in Striders and have macros for TPing and WSing. However there are times I forget.
I play a busy ranger. There's a lot to keep in mind especially at the level range I'm in (55-60) a ranger is disgustingly powerful.
My main role in my PTs is puller. To keep the XP tempo, there's a lot to keep in mind.
Timing mobs I pull to camp is my greatest consideration.
Two main situations is when running back to camp with a mob I pulled is:
- Having the previous mob be near death (around 5%), which I buy time by juggling Utsusemi at the initial portion of the fight.
- Having the previous mob be around my average slugshot damage range (around 15%). This way as I run into the 8.5 foot range of my Xbow, I fire WS- while the PT takes the incoming mob right after.
Since mob death is relatively quick at this level, I have to begin pulling around 60%. I also have to cover a lot of ground in Nashmau camp. So start pulling, turn and fire, use the delay to run a further distance, turn and fire again, and continue with my pulling.
Like I said, it can get busy. We don't always have the luxury of a bard who can sleep reliably so I take it up on myself to be sure I can provide the same XP tempo a bard can using any means available to me.
With all the business I can occasionally forget to replace striders with akinji nails. However since my gear is decent, I can afford a little bit of inefficiency to maintain the PT dynamics.

Yeah, and while you may have slightly less accuracy and power with striders, the increased pulling speed will increase your exp/hr.
What's not acceptable is wearing them at 75 when you have a bard pulling for anything other then running to camp. I will skadi I loved my skadi feet though

Read this guide a couple times now. Antithesis you may have forgotten to mention Meditate under the /sam SJ description.
Ranger / Samurai: This sub-job’s popularity has been steadly increasing with almost every update. With Samurai you get the benefit of Store TP which allows you to fire off your Weapon Skills slightly faster. At level 50 you gain acces to the ability Hasso which gives +5 Strength and Haste plus melee accuracy bonuses when wielding a Two Handed weapon. Ideally you will want either a Fire or a Vulcan’s staff for this. At 70 you gain the ability Seigan. Seigan almost acts like Utsusemi in a way in that it absorbs attacks directed at you (It can even absorb Multi-hit weapon skills.)
Meditate is attained at level 60 ranger with level 30 sub.

Re: 5/6-hit build
The only time to be concerned with x-hit build is when you are wielding a staff (primarily /SAM). In any other scenario, you should be getting melee TP as well, so there's not much point in aiming for 100.0 TP.

i apologize for key omissions. i've posted my part of the guide on wiki. i've also added to that guide some opinions on cobra bow as an endgame bow, and talked about the sea gorgets (aqua, breeze, light)

hy guys /
its maybe not the perfect topic to post that <.< but only for that question to make a new topic is a joke too.
question:
iam a full Archery hume-RNG *archery merit max* and hit yesterday 73.
Since iam 73 i have now the option to use still *5rngatk+5rngaccu* or Justic. T. *+5STR*
what are the better results?
p.s
<.< forgot to add that
Rutters *3str* or War boots+1 for sidewinder

just a general question, my rng is 37 and i don't know shit about endgame rng.
no haste? so wearing haidate if totally BS? (why even bother with the dex + when you can have racc or ratt+ in there)

Rautha-
Haste doesn't do anything for ranged attack. I don't think dex does... but it might have something to do with crit chance or something, I don't know for sure. The reason people wear it sometimes on rng is the 5% haste helps tp gain if your /nin and meleeing. Ranger has horrible tp gain, and great ws dmg, if you increase your tp gain, you increase you dot greatly. If you wear it while doing ws, barrack, or rng atk though, then your just stupid lol.
You can also use it to lower utsu recast times.
Michyru-
I'd use rng necklace over justice torque, and between rutters and war boots+1 its very close, but I leaned towards the rutters. I'm sure someone here can tell you which one is mathematically better though, I just don't remember.
