A rdm that can't land an enfeeble on something is non-existent for the most part, if need be you can heyooooo /check someone and see what they resist and cast a different spell. And there are some instances where you really really need to land a specific kind of spell on a target as a RDM. Example: a BLU w/ wind resist. Now not only are you going to have issues silencing him, but Gravity may become ineffective as well. Which leaves you with bind, but after the nerf it's had... wouldn't rely too heavily on it. Especially since he can Exuviation it away. Now you're left with what.... Sleep? That Diaga you cast to wipe his shadows just fucked that option, so that leaves you with nothing.

So maybe, just maybe, /SCH will give enough of a boost to at least help get around the resist build (until they build natural resistance from you spamming spells.)

overall: give it a shot before you debunk it. Weird little combo's like this are what spawned the monsters like PLD/RDM, SAM/RNG, etc. Come back w/ results as to why it sucks or gtfo.

Not to get too involved in this little...uh, discussion.

However, in most situations with a Red mage. I'd say they'll land their spells 9/10 times, if not more...the sheer lack of resistance (Even with some resistance builds) most jobs have against the high enfeebling skill Red Mages are blessed with is shown by the amount of difference one -can- make in a match.

Even if you can't land a certain spell they will have other options available that will immobilize you, they are Red mages after all. A good one will show you how much a resistance against a single debuff can be ignored, bypassed, or overpowered.

This being said, I won't say they're useless. Builds sometimes help out extraordinarily, after all...Red Mages aren't the only ones trying to debuff you. There's always that chance, I just wouldn't rely on it.

On the subject of Scholar, even though it does look good on paper...the time it takes to switch from White Arts to Dark Arts could slow you down. Anyone can tell you, if you're unfortunate to get stuck on the wrong art at the wrong time, the cast time is lengthened quite noticeably (MP cost is also raised too, if I'm not mistaken). That in itself could mean the difference in someone running out of bind range, or not being able to cure someone just in time. If there wasn't a cool down timer from White Arts > Dark Arts (One min. if I'm not mistaken) I would agree with you, quickly I might add. It's also, very unfortunate that you don't get access to some of the Scholar's better Magic enhancements, such as the -ga enfeebs.

/sch just seems to go against what the Red Mage job is designed for...flexibility. The job Scholar on the other hand has some abilities that can't be ignored, can't wait until people bring them into the ballista scene so they can be properly judged.

What got my attention was the 2 strategems that reduce cast time by 50% (the light and dark ones.)

Depending on your playstyle, this could become very broken very fast. What mage of the offensive nature can say no to 50% faster cast time?
Have the statagem that reduces cast time up, Diaga >> Thunder III, someone's in for a nasty surprise. And it'll probably happen too quickly for them to react.

You even get Resist Silence Job Trait, to make those silence resisting Barspells an even bigger pain in the ass.

This might seem more suited for BLM, but it can be applied to RDM as well. As Jormy said, testing is needed.
