Endgame BLM Gear 101

Yeah it's the "already claimed" not the "cannot perform that action" (too soon)

I'm actually referring to those times I start casting 1st, but someone else's spell lands 1st.
(maybe the me casting first , them landing 1st is actually more of a relay lag. They actually are casting before me, but due to relay lag, their "starts casting" message is after mine in my log?)

I see people say: "popped claimed, they bot-ed" on mobs I've watched pop unclaimed for several seconds, but were just to far out of range. I think people confuse when the model renders (appears) on their screen with when it pops.

I'm kinda surprised you would even advocate boting. I'd rather lose fairly than win by cheating anyway.

Also, I'm bored and was trying to start a debate. :sly

i know that but with the fast cast you could hit of being too soon, you never know its more luck too you hit it at the right time not to soon or too late.

botting > wasting gil i thing but i would not know i would not do any of them my self

Perhaps we should consider each writing a small section to contribute towards a larger guide when this initial post has been fully tweaked? For example guides on the damage formula, soloing post-75 (merits, ENMs, Limbus etc.), playing BLM endgame and the like. But anyway, until we get to that point I'll just give a couple of my own suggestions for the gear guide.

You might want to think about adding Maat's Cap to your list of head gear for manaburn/solo/duo. I understand that it's hardly an achievable goal for the vast majority of players, but since you included Aureole in your post I sort of assumed that we're not restricting ourselves to only moderately accessible pieces.

Regarding the priorities you've listed for Dark Magic, I believe it's necessary to separate Stun and Drain/Aspir from one another, reason being that I think Stun requires a different stat priority than the other two. Unless you're fighting Khimaira or Chariot mobs, a BLM's Stun is basically never going to be resisted by anything that doesn't resist Stun 100% of the time to begin with (or 95% of the time even with an assload of Skill and Elemental Seal, like Fafhogg). By its very nature Stun's greatest limiting factor is its recast timer, and as such I think prioritising Fast Cast and Haste gear for it is more beneficial than stacking all that Dark Magic Skill and Magic Accuracy that's otherwise going to waste. -Enmity is also key for Stunning in certain situations, for example if a tank without a lot of hate-accruing capabilities besides the damage they deal (think MNK/NIN or THF/NIN) is having trouble getting their shadows up early in the fight for whatever reason, it's much better if you can rely on a helpful Stun to help them out without fear of the mob immediately running in your direction. So my suggestion for the ideal Stun setup would be something like:

Main: Jupiter's Staff (this should easily guard against any possible freak resists that could occur, and Rune Chopper really isn't practical at all)
Sub: Staff Strap
Ammo: Hedgehog Bomb
Head: Nashira Turban (I appreciate that Walahra Turban has a larger amount of Haste, however I think that Nashira's -enmity in addition to its Spell interruption rate down makes it more desirable)
Neck: Benign Necklace
Earrings: Loquacious Earring, Novia Earring
Body: Goliard Saio
Hands: Nashira Gages
Rings: Tamas Ring, Trooper's Ring
Back: wwwwwwwwwwarlock's Mantle (/RDM, 'sup Kinesis or however it's was spelled), Errant/Mahatma Cape (/WHM)
Waist: Swift Belt
Legs: Nashira Seraweels
Feet: Rostrum Pumps

I know things on there really are not suitable for carrying around full-time, obviously I'm talking 100% optimisation here. But I suppose if you wanted to make a specific build that you only bring to big fights in which you're a main Stunner it wouldn't be a bad idea to maybe look into a couple of those. Oh, one thing - Anrin Obi would do nothing for Stun, Rairin Obi's the one you want if you think it makes any difference. As for Dark Magic Skill/Magic Accuracy affecting Stun duration, I'm honestly not completely sure. But even if it did, I think a well-placed Stun of any duration is still of great use, a long-lasting Stun really is just an additional bonus. Not to mention a Stun is a Stun when it comes to spells and dangerous TP moves.

Aside from that the only recommendation I can think to make right now is to put Orochi Nodowa(+1) in the Damage Reduction/Kiting Gear set (credit to Kaeko for bringing that item to my attention in the first place, lol). I remember soloing Ix'aern (MNK) once upon a long time ago and as I was kiting it around weakened (bad pull) with about 95HP I thought to myself "man, fuck /RDM, I wish I had some sort of Auto-Regen...", hehe. Oh, almost forgot that Omega Ring + Balrahn's Ring might be the best option available for Drain/Aspir and Enfeebling Magic (though personally I'd use Tamas/Balrahn's myself anyway), and I find myself sometimes hauling Seveneyes around for completism's sake if I have a spare slot or two.

Good job on the guide thus far, Dark, if anyone else is interested in possibly writing some other mini-guides on other aspects of the job please let me know.

Enfeebling Gear
Used for Enfeebles (Sleep, Bind, Gravity), directed mostly towards Dynamis Sleeping, Manaburning of sorts, and events/NMs that require kiting/sleep nuking. Priority in stats: Enfeebling Skill > Magic Accuracy > INT > FastCast/Haste.

Main: HQ Staves (Pluto's, Aquilo's, Auster's), NQ Staves

any case the bolded is new inv spot +11

Dark Magic Gear

Stoneskin (MND) Gear
BLM75 with capped Enhancing Magic of 200 Skill, only 114MND is necessary to fufill the 350HP cap on Stoneskin. Gear compatible with an unmerited Taru BLM/RDM is as follows:

Main: Kirin's Pole, Pride Staff, Neptune's Staff, Water Staff, (Clubs with MND)
Sub: Raptor Strap +1, MND Shield
Ammo: Phantom Tathlum, RSE Sachet if applicable

Elemental Gear Setup or "The SuperINT Build"
The resistant (wyrms, toa hnm, jol)HNM nuking-wise gear. It is highly recommended to reach the safe skill of 320~ Elemental before attempting a "SuperINT Build," in which case INT is stacked in several places in big numbers, ie: houppelande, prudence torque, and int earrings. In doing so, the total number of resists on wyrms such as Tiamat, Jormungand, and other various hnm such as Khimaira, is reduced substantially. Priority: Elemental Skill up to ~320, INT, and Magic Accuracy. A specific set is bolded.

Main: HQ Staves, NQ Staves
Sub: Bugard Leather Strap +1
Ammo: Aureole, Phantom Tathlum
Head: Sorcerer's Petasos(+1), Elite Beret(+1), Wizard's Petasos(+1)
Neck: Elemental Torque, Prudence Torque, Philomath Stole
Earrings: Novio Earring, Moldavite Earring, INT2 Earrings
Body: Mahatma Houppelande, Errant Houppelande, Morrigan's Robe, Genie Weskit, Igqira Weskit
Hands: Wizard's Gloves(+1), Morrigan's Cuffs
Rings: Tamas Ring, Snow Ring, Omniscient Ring, Diamond Ring
Back: Gleeman's Cape, Prism Cape, Rainbow Cape
Waist: Penitent's Rope
Legs: Morrigan's Slops, Mahatma Slops, Jet Seraweels, Errant Slops
Feet: Goliard Clogs, Yigit Crackows, Nashira Crackows, Rostrum Pumps

Resting Gear
When using the full Yigit Gear Set, you receive the latent effect: Refresh. The Refresh itself is approximately equivalent to 3.333 hMP. Yigit Gages and Yigit Crackows do not themself justify usage in a resting set without the Gomlek, Turban, and Seraweels combined. The set I use is bolded.

Main: Pluto's Staff
Sub: Bugard Leather Strap +1
Ammo: Phantom Tathlum
Head: Goliard Chapeau, Wizard's Petasos +1, Yigit Turban
Neck: Phi Necklace, Grandiose Chain, Beak Necklace +1
Earrings: Relaxing Earring, Magnetic Earring, Antivenom Earring, Rapture Earring
Body: Mahatma Houppelande, Wizard's Coat +1, Errant Houppelande, Yigit Gomlek
Hands: Genie Gages, Yigit Gages
Rings: Star Ring, Tamas Ring
Back: Invigorating Cape
Waist: Qiqirn Sash +1, Hierarch Belt
Legs: Yigit Seraweels, Baron Slops
Feet: Goliard Clogs, Arborist Nails, Yigit Crackows

Maximum INT Setup
This is a setup used in conjunction with the Elemental DOT spells (Burn, Shock, Choke, etc). The final tier is difficult to acheive through gear alone for any race besides Taru.

INT Tiers are as follows (taken from wiki):
1 - 39 INT = 1hp/tic (-5 stat)
40 - 69 INT = 2hp/tic (-7 stat)
70 - 99 INT = 3hp/tic (-9 stat)
100 - 149 INT = 4hp/tic (-11 stat)
150+ INT = 5hp/tic (-13 stat)

Gear that is usable to acheive the final tier of 150 INT on an unmerited Taru BLM/RDM (79 base INT) while mainting some Elemental Skill, Enmity- and Magic Accuracy is bolded.

Main: Kirin's Pole, HQ Staves, NQ staves, INT Clubs
Sub: Bugard Leather Strap +1, Astral Aspis(with club)
Ammo: Phantom Tathlum
Head: Demon Helm(+1), Wizard's Petasos(+1), Morrigan's Coronal, Mahatma Hat
Neck: Prudence Torque, Philomath Stole, Elemental Torque
Earrings: INT+2 Earring x2
Body: Mahatma Houppelande, Errant Houppelande, Morrigan's Robe
Hands: Mahatma Cuffs, Errant Cuffs, Wizard's Gloves +1
Rings: Tamas Ring, Snow Ring, Omniscient Ring, Diamond Ring
Back: Gleeman's Cape, Prism Cape, Rainbow Cape
Waist: Sorcerer's Belt, Penitent's Rope
Legs: Morrigan's Slops, Mahatma Slops, Jet Seraweels, Errant Slops
Feet: Goliard Clogs, Yigit Crackows, Rostrum Pumps, Zenith Pumps(+1), etc

Damage Reduction/Kiting Gear
Sometimes under specific conditions it is required to kite things, and gear to reduce damage can mean the difference between life and death. Although useful, it is not feasible to carry much gear beyond a Terra's Staff and maybe a cape, including Evasion+ items already being carried. Most useful items are bolded.

Main: Terra's Staff, Earth Staff, Auster's Staff, Wind Staff (evasion not as plausible as pure physical damage reduction)
Sub: Staff Strap, Bugard Leather Strap +1 (Enmity purposes, or no change at all)
Ammo: Phantom Tathlum, Bibiki Seashell (VIT I suppose, nothing really works here)
Head: Genie Tiara, Igqira Tiara (Evasion and Defense may help some)
Neck: Van Pendant, VIT+ Gear (there honestly isn't anything I would bring for this)
Earrings: Sorcerer's Earring (nothing else comes to mind, and nothing is really worth it)
Body: Wizard's Coat(+1), Genie Weskit, Igqira Weskit (mainly Curse effect, not recommended to ever even consider it), Mahatma Houppelande, Errant Houppelande (Enmity down may or may not help)
Hands: There isn't anything specific for hands that comes to mind at the moment, besides swapping out Zenith for the added HP
Rings: Tamas Ring, Trooper's Ring, other VIT+/Enmity- rings, Jelly Ring, Defending Ring(lol), Shadow Ring(for magical reduction purposes)
Back: Shadow Mantle, Umbra Cape, Cheviot Cape
Waist: Penitent's Rope, anything with Enmity- or VIT works, not much to pick from
Legs: Genie Lappas, Igqira Lappas, Wizard's Tonban (Evasion+ mainly, lack of anything else useful besides Enmity- gear)
Feet: Herald's Gaiters, Enmity- feet, anything really

Sorcerer's Ring Activation Gear
The HP down gear required to activate a Sorcerer's Ring, explanation below. My gearset as a Taru BLM/RDM or /WHM is bolded.

Main: Asklepios, Ivory Sickle(+1)
Sub: Astral Aspis
Ammo: Tiphia Sting
Head: Zenith Crown(+1), Emperor Hairpin, any MP+ HP- hairpin
Neck: Star Necklace
Earrings: Astral Earring
Body: Dalmatica(+1), Flora Cotehardie, Black Cotehardie
Hands: Zenith Mitts(+1), Mahatma Cuffs, Errant Cuffs
Rings: Serket Ring, Vivian Ring, Ether Ring, Astral Ring, Electrum Ring
Back: Blue Cape(+1)
Waist: Penitent's Rope (if using Sorcerer's Belt or Obi, otherwise usually not included.)
Legs: Zenith Slacks(+1)
Feet: Zenith Pumps(+1), Rostrum Pumps, Mahatma Pigaches, Errant Pigaches

thats where i stared >> i need more time to finish it.. too much gear out there now ot be leet.

The Dark Magic crap is mostly for Drain and Aspir, because honestly who carries things for Stun besides Jupiter's Staff, a Turban maybe and their other Dark Magic+ gear already? I've only resisted Stun on Cerberus once, and nothing else really thus far besides a full-resist Khim.

Thanks for the other tidbits though, didn't really think about Maat's Cap, or even know about that silly gorget.

I may change a couple things around, and add in sections that list gear specifically, showing the actual relevance to each set. May pop in level cap stuff, but I don't know if that would be too necessary, since gear is just pretty much stack int until staves, wear those, get ele skill after gloves, etc up to 70+.

Even with this inventory upgrade, I still feel like I need more space sometimes...

Yeah Whimsic, my bad. The gear and priorities I said above were meant for Drain/Aspir/Bio, I have an entirely different gear set for Stun. I don't bother carrying too much gear just for Stun, so I mostly just try to use the best of what I already have from other sets. Currently, my Stun set looks like (lazy copy/paste):

input /equip ring1 "Tamas Ring";
input /equip main "Jupiter's Staff";
input /equip head "Walahra Turban";
input /equip neck "Dark Torque";
input /equip ear2 "Abyssal Earring";
input /equip body "Goliard Saio";
input /equip hands "Sorcerer's Gloves";
input /equip waist "Penitent's Rope";
input /equip legs "Mahatma Slops";
input /equip ring2 "Trooper's Ring";
input /equip sub "Staff Strap";
input /equip feet "Nashira Crackows";
input /equip ear1 "Loquac. Earring";

You're a dumbfuck if you say Magnetic Earring isn't viable to add to a hMP Earring list.

I don't care if Static is a better choice for BLM in general. Ever consider that it also shows the limited uses it has for BLM? Probably not.

You're a dumbfuck if you think Magnetic Earring belongs in a list of BLM endgame gear.

That's all.

I dont know what's goin on, but the magnetic earring comes in second to the static earring. If you are looking for a +1 HMP earring, I'd just go buy one, there are other options than that. I didn't complete CoP, Zilart, and Bahamut for an earring with little results.

My point is that it's viable as an hMP Earring, and should be viewed as that, and only that (on Black Mage).

While anyone with common sense can realize you can use it for hMP, it should be listed there because that's all it's good for.

Although it is good for that purpose (I guess), the whole point of having a guide is to tell you what should be useful.

Magnetic Earring is not useful. Picking it over Static is a poor choice for a BLM, there are many other hMP earrings I have listed, infi easier to obtain. Even on RDM I wouldn't pick Magnetic.

it does add hmp+1 true but because there is a better earing for BLM it does not belong in this guide since you get the same effect from other earings.

Fixed. It's not a worthwhile option considering what has to be done to get it. Fuck that shit.

Static may be situational too but least it doesn't give us 5 more MP on our resting sets.
