Does anyone other than myself wish to see more than magazine scans before they decide its a good idea to throw money at Sony for a PS3? The pictures look lovely and all; but I'd like some gameplay details. Ever since FF8 we've been seeing more and more bizare and usually unwelcome changes to the series combat systems. The Draw system in FF8 was awful. The method of learning new abilities in FF9 was as fun as kicking yourself in the head. FF10 was 70% cutscene, FF10-2 I couldn't even be bothered to finish the design was so terrible. And FF12 I wasn't willing to spend money on after watching a friend "play" it.
FF13 largely looks like more of the same. And while the trailers and scans look very pretty that does not equal an exciting gameplay experience. Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories -looked- like an excellent 2D hack-and-slash fest with the Keyblade up until they revealed the damned card system. Fapping over a game because it simply looks pretty boggles my mind. As it turns out, that isn't difficult to do with today's technology. The name Square no longer implies that a product will be worth a damn, sadly. As much as we still wish it was we are -not- in the era of FF6/CT/SoM.
Dude you're completely over simplifying some really great games. FF games have always set the bar on great story lines, graphics, and gameplay with odd exception. No offense but you're a small minority of people who seem to bitch about how the old games will always be the best. Ultimately the old games didn't have interesting combat systems for the most part but they did have excellent story lines. I think a lot of people get attached to the old games with a feeling of nostalgia and just can't let go (it's the whole "such and such was 10 times better back in my day.")
The new games probably will never blow your mind like the original ones that you got attached to but according to the majority most FFs are far better then most games that come out on a regular basis. So basically ya everyone is going to drool and be excited because even something like FFX-2 that seemed all bubble gum pop and didn't have a full game attached, was probably better than the majority of crappy games that get churned out.

blu-ray is now the only choice for HQ-disc play back, its still expensive but with the harddisks getting bigger and the price dropping its looking better and better.
I really dont watch movies often so i dont really care about the blue-ray.
Blu-Ray is important for next gen content. MGS4 is so huge they couldn't even fit the dual audio tracks on the disc 50 gigs of game there. Sure DVDs will be ok but you have to deal with more decompressing, loads, and disc swapping. You're gonna like exploring a RPG and every time you want to go from one side of the realm to the other you have to swap discs?
