I personally have a 60GB PS3 form launch for FFXIII, Versus XIII, White Knight Chronicles, MGS4, Valkyrie of the battlefield, Resistance 2 and others... Couldn't be happier and I know this will be one of the best FFs to date... Versus looks amazing and by the sound of how the game is with Kingdom Hearts style gameplay it'll be epic.

New Final Fantasy XIII & Versus footage to be at the PS Premier

It has been rumored over at the FF&KH Blog that there will be new footage shown of Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Versus XIII.

- The camera switches angles so fast you will probably be "3D sick".

- The new character confirmed in this new footage is from Final Fantasy XIII.

- In Versus, a new character will be revealed as the enemy; he will be blonde or white-headed, presumably the hooded figure.

Thanks to Estella for the translation!

The camera switched angels so fast, huh? This'd be so intense! (<3 Cloverfield)

I have to agree with Spira on that. Sony was trying to avoid another Format war like Beta Vs. VHS. I'm pretty sure only 5% at best of the people reading this will know what Betamax is. Sure Sony pissed some people off... But it's a dog eat dog world.

Does anyone other than myself wish to see more than magazine scans before they decide its a good idea to throw money at Sony for a PS3? The pictures look lovely and all; but I'd like some gameplay details. Ever since FF8 we've been seeing more and more bizare and usually unwelcome changes to the series combat systems. The Draw system in FF8 was awful. The method of learning new abilities in FF9 was as fun as kicking yourself in the head. FF10 was 70% cutscene, FF10-2 I couldn't even be bothered to finish the design was so terrible. And FF12 I wasn't willing to spend money on after watching a friend "play" it.

FF13 largely looks like more of the same. And while the trailers and scans look very pretty that does not equal an exciting gameplay experience. Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories -looked- like an excellent 2D hack-and-slash fest with the Keyblade up until they revealed the damned card system. Fapping over a game because it simply looks pretty boggles my mind. As it turns out, that isn't difficult to do with today's technology. The name Square no longer implies that a product will be worth a damn, sadly. As much as we still wish it was we are -not- in the era of FF6/CT/SoM.

If you don't like the final fantasy games you don't have to buy them.

I'm with Yoona. Square tries to be Innovative. This is something EXTREMELY rare in game companies outside Nintendo right now. Look at Xbox 360. Most of their library is composed of First Person Shooters. Why? Because their the best bet to sell well and make money. Is this a good thing? No. People are starting to suffer from FPS fatigue. It gets really hard to come up with never before seen things other than 1337 graphics and physics engines after a while. The Final Fantasy series has made it to 12 sequels and literally countless spin offs due strictly to Squares ability to do something extremely different each time. You're seriously not play the the same game with a slightly tweaked story every time. Is every change welcome? Not really. Personally I loved the draw system as it added a whole lot to the game strategy. At the beginning it was extremely tedious, sure, but once you get the refinement abilities + Mug, that was never again a concern. What was your concern was not using to many of your junctioned spells in a fight. IX had what I personally believe was the best magic and ability learning system of any FF. VII just had the most popular because that's when what probably accounts to 80% of people who "claim" to be FF fans started in. I was an FF fan when I was literally a 3 years old. I still remember my mom playing Final Fantasy I back in 1990 when my dad got it for her on the NES as a gift. I saw my mom playing, and I wanted to play it to, something pretty common in a child's mindset. But it set me up for a long fandomship.

The reason why X had so many cut scenes is because it was inspired by a novel where someone took a trip across Japan, and wrote about his experiences. The story was so focused on the characters and their relationships with one another, it took a lot of CSes to tell. Granted, X does rate lower in my list of favorite FFs (mainly due to a lack of Leviathan. Other factors include the annoying as fuck Lightning Dodger side quest to get Lulu's ultimate weapon unlocked, and the loss of the world map), but you have to admit, the game was really good.

And for the love of god... If you didn't like the idea of Gambits in 12... YOU COULD FREAKING TURN THEM OFF. You didn't HAVE to use them. I know people who methodically played through without them. Don't give me crap like quotation marks around the word play. In fact, until the end of the game, you couldn't even make most of the best gambit combinations unless you had the International edition. And by then, you weren't going to get a lot of use from them.

Truth.
Opinions suck, and in the end mine is the only one that matters.

FFVII's materia system was the best. Note I said materia system, not the game was the best, for all those 7 haters.
VIII's draw system I disliked, as well as most of the story. I thought it would have been awesome if they just played off the whole mercenary thing more.
IX made me nostalgic for the older games. I love the characters, I love just about everything about it.
X was one of the better games, though it still pales in comparison to VI. The story was good and kept me entertained. The cutscenes certainly got tiring after a while though.
X-2 I don't even consider a true Final Fantasy game.
XI Great storylines, horrible gameplay. SE ruins the game blah blah beat the dead horse.
XII felt like what XI should have been. I loved every moment of it. The gambits I only used to rip through lesser enemies quickly, when it came to boss fights I turned them off. Combat was fast and fun, not tedious. The license system was also quite good.

I honestly dislike the Materia system now that I've gone back and replayed VII.

VIII had the best story, you just had to get past the protagonist was unlikable at first. At lot of people never got past that Squall is one of the most dynamic characters in the series, unlike Cloud who was pretty flat and static.

I agree with you on 12 for the most part. The license system made things more customizable, but every time I tried to make a character take up a specific role, I just ended up buying ever license anyway so everyone had every spell... Though Penelo freaking rocked my socks as the dedicated mage.

While I know FFVI is the most popular it doesn't break into my top 5 list. While it did have some of the greatest character development ever seen, and what is considered to be Uematsu's greatest score, it just isn't one of my favorites. It lacked Leviathan, and got his lame counter part that pales in comparison, Bismarck (GBA remakes don't count).

X I couldn't stand the Sphere Grid... Especially since in some areas the spheres you needed to lvl up either didn't drop, or dropped from the rarest and strongest enemy. The story was first class though.

If I ranked the FFs in my opinion, the list looks like:

VIII
XII
XI
I
III
IX
VI
IV
X
VII
V
II

Two news:
FF7 versus characters' name:
To the far left is Speedy to far right is Doc in the middle is Nero and then the other guy is Screech.

So he was named Storm before, then he is Nero. Meh, DMC4.

Square Enix announced their finances for their 2008 fiscal year. To their dismay, they are seeing a loss of 3 billion yen ($29 million). To compensate for their losses, President of Square Enix Yoichi Wada says that they will be canceling a "revolutionary mobile development." Considering all the reports of Final Fantasy Agito XIII have been extremely positive, and all haling it's technical supremacy, Final Fantasy Agito XIII could be on the chopping block.

i have to say fingers are a pain to model and animate on a low poly count, hence why XI has square fingers.
