I was thinking about getting the Barb gloves for my drg, just for the hell of it, and was wondering if anyone has any details about this nm.
I have read wiki, and he sounds pretty tough, but it doesnt say how many he can be brought down with. Any details?

I was actually considering the possibility of bioing + zoning until the last few percents.. I'm not sure it will work.. but I figure with the other NMs I've done this with and dealing with things like Ix'DRG, it might work.

It's a nightmare, trust me.
My old LS put some effort toward it--the pop items were about 300k to synth at the time plus a potential 2-3 hours spent farming and processing the sheepskins that have a very low drop rate.
You pretty much want a Chainspell stun + tons of 300 TP DDs plus BLMs for each pop. He spams Frying Pan and Banishga III faster than anyone can cope with, I don't know if any group could hold him for longer than a minute.
Aaaaand we went 0/9 on the drop so there ya go. I think it's a gigantic joke from the dev team honestly.

If you aren't prepared to zerg it, it's a beast. We went in not expecting it to be that bad, but he raped us real quick with -ga spammage.
The gloves simply are not worth the trouble the NM gives.

I can understand the issues with -ga and frying pans and such but assuming you can make it to the zone, couldn't you reliable keep bio and poison on him while zoning while having a few other friends zone in just to burst 2 when they are capable? last time I fought adamantking I held it at the zone for a half hour with bio and poison until friends made it to the fight... only thing needed was shadows and shadow timers reset every time you zone.. so Yeah I'm really considering trying this.

Good luck, I honestly don't know how that would play out since all our successful fights were <60 seconds. Be aware the zoneline is verrrrry far away and there aren't a lot of safe checkpoints to rebuff.
Also, considering we went 0/9 on drop with Thieves, it'd be quite a longshot with no TH.

an old ls of mine popped it twice way back when it was first added in, and even his normal hits are tettible to try and tank, he hits like kc speed and does considerable dmg. when i fought it we were small group and banishga 3 wiping everyones shadows followed by about 15 seconds of normal attacks dropped all 4 of us like we were nothing. imo you would really need a cs stun dl style zerg to drop him, cause he will rape a nin or a dd in seconds even if he isnt constantly spamming ae. i dont see anyone but a really beefy pld with his finger on invincible being able to tank it, even for a couple min, and kiteing in that dumb ass area would be more of a pain then it would be worth.
its totaly not worth fighting this, even if the pop item were free it would be debatable. these gloves are like one of those joke items that arent really worth a crap except to show off, cause nxt to no one has them. i think iv seen 1 or 2 ppl with them on my server, never seen ayone with them on aside from showing off in town.

Some small minor facts about this NM and item:
Goblin Collector is popped via Premium Bag, which is made from a bunch of useless items.
-The NM is said to reset hate with every 'successful' (this isnt including a utsusemi attack) hit landed, making it very hard for a tank to fare well.
-It may not be the least bit possible to tank this mob by any means besides invincible or Stun order.
-Banishga does roughly 600dmg each, sometimes followed by Holy for somewhere around 700ish HP.
The Gloves have -subtle blow, which, in about 95% of the circumstances in FFXI, are a bad thing. The only time I could see subtle blow- being a good stat is during the assault where you want the Mamools to get enough TP to WS the prison doors open.
Subtle Blow- increases the amount of TP gained when striking an enemy (their TP), In case some of you didnt know. Also, the att+12 is decent, but in most cases, can be replaced with something better for the job (dusk gloves, warriors mufflers, okote saotome kote etc)
Sorry for the wall of text ><;;;

Read what he said again, "The Gloves have -subtle blow"
-4 subtle blow means the mob gets MORE TP every time you hit it.

I remember thinking about trying the NM when it first came out but the LS was like fuck that after they heard about it.
Does anyone that has the mitts tested to see if they have any hidden effects?

Naturally, all of the 'Barbarian' gear has something detrimental (gsword has -acc, scythe has -acc etc), but is more than decent in another stat. But even still, Counter+1 is nothing to gloat about, seeing that the only jobs that have a natural Counter skill are MNKs, and can be replicated with SAM or /sam seigan third eye (who still have a very low chance of cuontering).
In other words, Unless you are dying for every piece of rare/ex gear or you seriously cannot afford parallel versions of the +12att hand equips, These gloves really don't do too much for any job that wants to be smart. You can find the same stats elsewhere, without any detriments IMO.
I have not heard of any hidden effects on this item.
