Chinese Virus? Rate Topic: -----

So like, every so often when I click a link or open a bookmark, a white page with nothing but chinese characters on it shows up instead of the webpage I wanted. Usually I can click back and go to the page I want again without getting the chinese page again, but it gets really frustrating when it keeps happening.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me how I could possibly get rid of it. I'm going to take a wild guess and say it came from the random chinese IM's I've been getting spammed with on Yahoo from random SN's that I don't know. I did a really stupid thing and replied to one of them one time even though I knew it was a bad idea (and besides, spam IM's never reply back.)

So, I'm asking, is there any way I could fix this? It doesn't seem to be harming my PC, its just annnoying as heck. I also translated it, and it sounds sexual, but then again dictionary.com has a horrible translator.

Thanks in advance.

Have you done a virus, worm, spybot scan of your system yet? You know, just to be safe?

Aye. My friend suggested I reinstall Firefox to see if it helps, because apparently I'm not getting any chinese webpages on Internet Explorer.

**edit**

Okay well, I've uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled it twice, done a system restore, and ran all of my adware/spyware/malware/virus removal programs, and the chinese still shows up instead of a webpage often.

Could someone accurately translate it so I know if I might be missing something? It seems like an annoying virus, but I really don't know enough about this stuff to know for sure.

Hmm, thats odd. I've known firefox to do strange things like that and have problems but never changing the language. From looking at the photobucket picture, only the Add's are showing up in chinese, am I correct on that or is it most of the time all type turns into a different language?

I'd suggest checking to see if your computer is translating things into chinese instead of english, or check which programs you have recently downloaded or are currently running.

If all else fails you could take it into the store where you bought it and see if they can find the problem, other than that I wouldn't know how to fix it. :/

In Firefox, try going to View > Character Encoding and make sure its set to Western (ISO-8859-1).

There are a number of odd shortcut keys and its possible you may have hit a combo somehow. Its the only thing i can think of if IE is normal and only FF is afected like that.

If this only happens with firefox, it could be that there's something wrong with your firefox profile.

The above link will show you how to set up a new profile.
