So Ive been busy with WoW, where they take care of pvpers, and havent done much with ballista lately. But I slapped together old footage of when I first got sam to 30, and the one thing I recorded on fenrir, which was a diorama where 1 on 1, which btw Im freaken horrible at, so heres me dying.

this belongs on the ballista section kthnx
and you never saw me on fenrir because I only do OM, and I tend to stay away from anything uncap, its just incredibly boring and heavily depended on gear + job
lower caps are just a lot more fun to me then uncap, + Im one of the people who feel 1on1 dont mean anything unless its the same main job

Last night (60's) was the best ballista I've ever seen in a few months.. Had so many old school Jps out there. I was actually the only Na out there in Pashhow. I also saw some 30's going on this morning.

I won't be back to ballista until they make it at least 10% as fun/rewarding as WoW's battlegrounds. Level 51-60 AV matches are made of God and Win.

lmao, when I quit the first time I was on wow doing lvl 60 AV as a paladin, god it was amazing, its too bad you didnt get into wow before the change, before AV would last HOURS, and i mean on the 10+, best thing ever would be defending drek's room with like 4 other 60s, but now as 70 they are 10-30min matches, just a huge honor grind really, still funish, soon as my pld got 70 i got him weapon, shield and about 3 pieces of gladiator, now im just finishing off the vindicator. I dont care what people say about people in 'welfare epics' they are still decent and helps you not get so ran over when you start arenas =p

Better late than never -- I was another stubborn guy who thought FFXI was the be-all, end-all, but I found out (rightfully so) that 10+ million players willing to shell out cash every month couldn't be all wrong, compared to maybe 500k. AV is a hell of a good time, and yeah, I've read up a lot on how it used to be, but thats why I'm taking my sweet time enjoying these early 50's. I know the 61-70 is all honor grinding, so I'll probably head straight to arena with some twinked out buddies.
But yeah, I don't even miss ballista. The one thing I do miss are the fantastic Hades players that are all split up all over the servers now -- we had one hell of a community for a long time, there. Its a shame SE's inability to update anything that is over a year old is such a staunch component of how they run their business.
Ahh well, at least I got to retire as one of the original "good ones", and still the best Drg ever to sign up for a Hades Ballista. All the former ballista vets still laugh about the good times over on WoW.

only real bad thing I have to say about wow is that euro and na servers are split, have to have someone get you a game from wherever you want to play. And yeah, after fenrir I know hades had 1 dam amazing community, despite people blaming Firi for ruining matches as only rdm, he basically set a bar for mages and if they didnt meet it, they wouldnt show up, which made all the melee have to adapt. I got so sloppy on fenrir, my first match on siren was hillarious to me, then I tried to bring out thf, and god was I rusty haha. Im making a warrior twink on wow with engineering, god thats a fun little skill, cant wait for mind control devices and more bombs :love

I'd love to see Blizzard show SE what real pet jobs are all about -- do a lil' cross-game PVP with a hunter vs. bst, and a lock vs. drg. The results would be so hilarious -- FFXI jobs with their 2-6 skills per job, inability to utilize their pets for just about anything, laughable gear choices and stats on the gear vs. a refined, streamlined set of jobs that would wipe the floor with anything FFXI could ever have to offer. Looking back on it, saying that I was a great ballista player means nothing, really, especially in the land of "you are out of range -- no WS or TP for you!", lag-tastic advantages for the JP players, paltry 500 xp reward for an entire hour's work, hour-long wait for the next match, non-interacting with the environment whatsoever circle-strafing fest of what ballista is now known to be.
Its funny when not even Fenrir can keep the flames of ballista passion ignited -- that just goes to show you how pathetic SE is when it comes to updating, maintaining, and hell, even designing aspects of the game that doesn't involve grinding mobs for xp.

Because they obviously don't care for PvP.
I don't think they ever intended FFXI to draw in a large PvP base, or if they did, failed at it, and gave up on it.
Apples vs Oranges.

I guess striving for mediocrity is a good buisness practice if you're simply attempting to stay afloat in the market. There are many MMOs that aren't directly driven at PVE, but that aren't directly driven at PVP -- you can have a balance, and you can update both equally. FFXI chooses not to, and as a result, their bottom dollar suffers.
If you want to compare apples vs. apples, then take a bst vs. hunter and a lock vs. drg and throw them against a HNM in FFXI's world, then in WoW's world. The hunter and lock would still shit on bst and drg, easily. Pet jobs are actually desired and powerful in WoW -- its called pleasing everyone, not just fans of mages and eastern jobs. More skills, more abilities, more utility, more accessibility, more equipment and skill choices, more strategy = more subscribers each month. Hell, theres even a much bigger plot and story behind the jobs, for those of you who contend that FFXI has such a deep and rich story.

Ive said it countless times, 'pvp' was an afterthought for ff11, they tried to give us what they felt was needed, brenner, and we threw it in their face, because its not what we wanted or really needed. The ballista community is so small that its easy to overlook. Where you see wow was very pvp based, the mobs and end game is too keep those type of players still in the game. BUT the huge thing is, you dont have to devote so much time raiding for amazing gear on wow, where in ff11 you do. You can just pvp all day in battlegrounds for some very decent gear. And then comes jobs, in wow more classes counter each other then in ff11, my pld can do good against anything melee, throw a mage or lok on me, and im dead. Where as my friend, a rogue, destroys them.
Oh and since my daily was just eye of the storm, what I did was stay at 69 for a while to be at the top of that bracket and collect marks, EoTS is a lot of fun I think haha
