Depends on server. Fenrir was pretty epic the first month. Then it got bogged down until it got terrible and now theres only a usual amount of players. I gotta blame SE not giving a damn about ballista. Everything else was just sucking the life out of an already near death event.

pokemon, kinda.

but campaign is number 1 impact imo.
oh, and besieged too, but to a lesser degree.

SE need to make the xp 2k for winners, 1k-1.5k for losers.

500xp is sooooooo 2001

well it depends, blu put the nail in the coffin for lower lvls, pankration ruined it, but that died off and nobody came back

I wouldnt say world transfers ruined it, because it was slowing down right before they came out, if anything world transfers are keeping some servers afloat, I know on siren the jp crowd for ballista is still decently sized, seen 18vs18 and when its more NA time we had a 3vs3 and that was it all day, and that 3vs3 was dam amazing <3 I missed small matches with people who knew how to play real ballista. Kind of funny I think, when I was making my choice 90 days ago, I told people I wanted fenrir because of the not having to rely on jp time ballista, now I dont mind because craptastic ballista nearly ruined it for me <3 siren for giving me back the fun

Temadian :

In order:
1) The multi-hit WS nerf (It's amazing how much people got butt-hurt from this)
2) The inclusion of ToAU (not the expansion per se, but part of it, to me, has to do with the key item that alerts you of an upcoming match does not go off (to my knowledge) in whitegate, which in many ways has evolved into a 2nd Jeuno).
3) (See above quote)
4) As much as I want to disagree, the "Big 3" from a BLU (along with a couple other spells) in uncapped is a serious turn-off.
5) Besieged
6) World Transfer
7) Campaign battles and WoTG distractions.

That sums it up for me. Some have bigger roles in the decline than others.

in order
1. Mulit hit ws nerf
2. BLU
3. PLD buff
4. Assault/besieged/wide spread tp burns even nubs can pull off/salvage and everything else in TOA.
in short, TOA and every patch that came with it.

BLU didnt really kill ballista....actually it brought ballista alive a bit more considering you saw more and more blus at ballistas....i say world transfer was the spark and campaign was the fire

Coulda sworn Ballista had a headstone before ToAU was even introduced.

It started with SE making it so you lost your target when they gear-swapped and the resulting gear swap penalty in Ballista.

... Oh wait it stopped before it started.

Lets make a game that's really challenging and give people lots of gear they can swap in and out in different situations, and then dumb down combat for PvP...

... Oh wait. Too late.

Hades ballista was alive and well until Blu. That was the beginning of the end here. Blu continued the cycle of suffering that mnk/sam and mnk/thf brought, only magnified greatly. Whereas mnk could only rape one person before rolling out, a blu could rape 3-4 people at full MP.

Pokemon just drove the sword through the heart of an already-dying PVP. By the time people had discovered that there was no real reward to pokemon, and thus, no point to it, ballista was already an afterthought.

At least on Hades. The world transfer didn't mess ballista up so badly, because it was already fucked before that happened. We just lost a few initial good JPs and some loser NA, but more JP began to follow their LSes and it was broken beyond repair.

I was asking my Japanese friend why the jps on my server ONLY do 60 caps, and the rest are all canceled.. she said the whole reason is blue mage. Fuck you, BLU.

I think we all know that 60 is the most balanced of caps, and is why most servers have a huge following for that cap

So what's the new 60 cap server nowadays? Keep hearing contradicting things about Fenrir.

ppl always bitchin about how uncap is unfare. at Remora its only japanese players that say that. can someone pls tell me whats so unfare? if u work as a team the right way u might get some where. gear > tactical team work? i think not. maby for 1v1 yes. but ballista as its saposed to be played i dont agree. work with your damn team mates and u may find your self best off. maby get a friend you realy cool with and find a way of duoing ppl. have each others back or somethin. what me Timetogetherdon and Baumaud did for a longtime years ago. San d'Oria!

IMO fenrir was a waste of time, the mages werent that great at all, and all it was was sam/rng and drk/nin running around. Sure they are probably the only ones with an uncap scene left, but they are way too into the 1vs1, like if those matter. It was usually just a gank and run to score. Which is extremely boring to me. I prefer ballista where you actually have to work with your team, smaller matches~ Siren has like 18vs18 during jp times and its pretty good ballista I think, I havent noticed much more NA there, unless they hide in diorama while I sleep. Now I realize quality ballista, even if i can only do it a couple days out of the week is better then matches every day that are pretty boring.

Pre-blu, it was all about the gear that certain jobs could wear over others. A war could be sporting adaberk, ridill, juggy, and other twinked gear, while a drg's best bet was lolAJ and a collosal lance. Anyone who could wear God Gear from Sky had a huge advantage over others, especially jobs like thf that's best gear was low damage daggers and a SH.

Once COP, and later, ToAU came out, things changed a bit with the new gear available, but Blu was created. Blu had the "Big 3", which could rack up well over 1,800 damage in all of 4-7 seconds, and back in the day, it was extremely hard to resist any of it. Blus were dropping everyone left and right, and the God Gear wearing jobs still had an advantage over others -- mnks, rngs, and blus still ruled the school. Pld eventually stepped in as a juggernaut with all of the offensive gear that was starting to come out, coupled with lovely moves like the new and improved sentinel, and rampart to help with survivability. The shield blocking update didn't hurt either.

Nowadays its more fair than it was at any other point, but there's still a large disparity. Many jobs still just aren't PVP-friendly, and really have very little to offer, especially laughable jobs like smn, that can only do something useful if a large group is bound or slept. The same jobs that ruled before still rule now -- about the only real change was sam/rng becoming the shit, especially post-seigan.

Rdms have always been invincible, so there's no comment there, hah.

A combination of large disparity between elite and standard equipment, and poor job balancing is generally what dooms uncapped. It can be either incredibly easy to kill someone, or incredibly hard (and thus, boring) to take someone out, while its much easier to have more equally-matched players through job abilities, equipment, and spells at the 60 cap. Uncapped is where you go to beat up idiots that get a relic and think they're god's gift to the game, then SS the deaths and laugh at them.
