I already know how to play, so its of no importance to me. I hope someone does, however, just to sate your desire.

It's more on the psychology of competitive play, and how some people perceive certain tactics as "dirty". Thought it was very fitting seeing as how this thread devolved into "you suck" "but I win" "your a douche" etc etc...

Mieh :
I've never synced well with a server anyway.
Really I just wish to meet anyone who bears an interesting persona about them... and I find one of the only ways to do this is to follow the trails of completion until I find a group who understands and wants it.
It's a work in progress, and certainly one that will come to frutition one day.
EDIT
Utsusemi is one piece of the puzzle Aeonknight, though I'd venture to say your concept of spamming diaga and other -ga spells points to blind blink-tanking.
I'm trusting that somewhere inside you know that Ninjutsu is not an art that relies on blind attempts for it's completion...
Oh wait...
Those who choose to horde the 'big 3' over all other possibilities for using blue magic either do not understand or do not desire to execute what a Blue Mage is capable of.
Wires and blades are great for ripping through flesh, but lose much of their ripping power when matched up against a castle rook, just as you say.
In that instance, who will not simply weigh down the rook and move away from it, or pull something mystical and drain the rook of it's ammo?
What rook can help if it's not there, or if no archers or illusionists can fire from it?
Read: Rook. And for the record, so would I. Just remember that all things have their weaknesses, just as you said.

Cute Mieh, but Utsusemi is far from perfect.

Speaking from a BLU's perspective, in an uncapped match where I'm supposedly broken as all hell (lol), I normally look at PLD to be one of the more dangerous adversaries. Simply because, they have that shield which is the bane of all melee DD's existence. They've got what it takes to absorb my entire MP pool in the form of Big 3 spam and brush it off like it was nothing. I've seen it before, I've experienced it before.
I speak of course of PLD/RDM. While not the best offensively, it is superior to almost any other job's defensive capabilities. Therefore, I choose to not mess with PLD/RDM's in uncapped matches

Trust me, I'm more than well aware of the penalty a BLU suffers from whoring the Big 3. <3 Heat breath for killing PLDs. But due to it's MP intensive nature, even if I manage to drop the PLD/RDM using sleep >> CA Disseverment (can't block while you're sleeping) and finishing off with Breath nukes, that leaves me drained on MP. Whereas a PLD/NIN in DD gear will go down to the lawltastic BLU that uses nothing but 'Rip, 'Barrage, and Disseverment in probably 1 cycle or less.
As for PLD/RDM's weakness to magic, that is true as well. But there are far less jobs that can destroy a PLD magically than physically. BLM comes to mind, maybe a RDM/BLM. Haven't seen SCH so can't comment on them. DRK's drains do the job if the PLD isn't ripping into them already, and that's about it.
Plus, there's Fealty. Kind of a 1 trick pony unless you manage to pull multiple Revitalizers out of the ground. With it active even Mages won't be able to bring down what they can't get to stand still long enough for the cast timer to reach 100%.
I can see the merit of utsusemi though. Though a placebo in a small match, in large scale fights it can be a deterrant for other players to attack (unless they hold some sort of grudge.) It seems /NIN has lived through it's prime on Carby, while it's still alive and kicking on other servers. Different playstyles, different upbringings.

Ok first thing i would like to say is, i despise the living shit out of you tainted..if i could i would make you watch me kill everyone you know and love just for the fucking hell of it.
Second thing, all of you stop being haters..i hate to say it but tainted is actually a smart ballista player. there isnt much you can do in this games pvp so shes uses the small things to her advantage and that probably gets you mad because you probably wouldnt have thought of the shit she does or it just wasnt the way you learned how to play. If you were good as you say you are would be able to avoid all these distractions and still own. What tainted is doing is actually good tactical moves and i hate to say it but it actually works apparently
Anyway.....video 6 out of 10

PLD/RDM's biggest weakness is that it's not team friendly. It's a solo job, that's it. PLD/RDM is built like a brick wall, meaning that nobody with a brain is going to attack them since everybody knows that already. That means you lose the entire purpose of a defensive build. Congrats on becoming a gimp WHM. All the defense, phalanx, stoneskin, etc. in the world won't help you if nobody is attacking you because they're afraid you have those buffs up. The reason why people still attack BLM when they sub RDM is because they're still BLM. People are hesitant to attack PLD no matter what SJ, and it applies double with RDM sub.
I wonder do you understand what placebo means. Utsusemi does what it's supposed to do. Regardless if AoE goes off, it's still defense and does what it's supposed to do. How is that a placebo effect? I cast utsusemi, it absorbs three attacks or single target spells. It's a deterrent in any match when the other choice is somebody with out it. DRKs are less likely to spam you with absorb TP, JP style players with out kclub or ridill are less likely to run in and out to TP off you, it does its job. It's not a placebo. It's not meant to be the end all of defense either.
I want you to attack me, I want you to leave the people who can put out higher damage alone. All the while I can deal a considerable amount of damage as well. That benefits my team a lot more than me spamming cure IV 5 times before I run out of MP, and while I stand there like a brick wall my fragile team mates lay besides me dead while the other team doesn't even bother killing me, it's not time efficient, instead they go to score since there isn't shit I can do besides sit there and take damage, and they're not trying to deal it.

Utsusemi absorbs 3 attacks from a MNK that attacks roughly 5 times, and will continue to attack you until you're tasting dirt simply because he knows that with your current sub job, he can kill you. Easily even. Now throw a WAR w/ Joytoy or THF w/ M kris (or even K club) into the mix.
Being a "team player" as you say also involves not getting your ass killed and letting the enemy score.
And idk what melee you got on your server, but people here actually attack /NINers more because they know that those shadows will not last forever. 3 Hits aint shit against soboro, faith, Double attack, triple attack, M kris, K club, etc. etc.
PLD/RDM is a brick wall w/ slightly decreased offense, but that doesn't make that sword of yours worthless. You can put out #'s as /RDM. You can even Gravity some melee to get your team a kill.
But to be fair (again), it probably depends on your playstyle. You're more of the hit and run type person while I'm more of a pursuer (and hence may need the defense to get out alive.) They both work.

1) The music / dat mods rape my ears and eyes.
2) Both Aeon and Tainted's styles have merit in ballista, as much as I hate to say that /NIN works, it does. I've tried the pure complete defense builds, nobody messes with you, while you are helpless to barely scratching people. If there's a mage, they will usually just enfeeble you and run. This is my experience PLD/BLU 60 cap full out defense.
The PLD/NIN in uncapped would have some decent offense damage vs. time wise, could wipe shadows easily. It is essentially a WAR with swords, but can also Sentinel/Flash/Cure. They can be taken down much easier, but there is always a tradeoff of offense and defense that makes the best player.

Aark, to put it simply, you're an idiot.
Moving on
Knowing when to die and when not to die is key, and it's actually quite easy to control when you have people wanting to attack you. I think in the match my video took place in, the only time I died unexpectedly was when I got hit by thundaga since I didn't see it in the log. Every other time I made a decision to take a risk or not and then had enough consideration to place whoever killed me in a position where it'd be difficult for them to get away freely. This all comes with time though. You don't understand, but utsusemi still does what it's supposed to do. It blocks 3 hits of whatever. Nobody's expecting it to do any more than that. There are ways to get around an untimely death. In my case, I run faster than most people, especially most MNK, SAM, people who I generally have to worry about. I'm not worried about if they can kill me, any job can kill me if I'm just standing there, I'm going to always be in constant motion unless I'm disabled from moving in some way, which gives me an advantage outside of just raw defense and shit like that. But either way, when you gear offensively, even if it's just 3 hits, those shadows can absorb up to over 300-500 damage depending on who's trying to attack you. Like that MNK using AF2 body in the video. If he had his utsusemi up, he would have been able to absorb about 190 damage from one of my attack rounds. That's 190 less HP he has now. That's 190 HP closer to death he is now. That's what utsusemi does. God forbid I was a DRK using a scythe and had no MP for poisonga. That could be near 500 damage utsusemi absorbs. That's a large chunk of HP for most people. Don't assume everyone has a multi-hit weapon, because they don't. As amatter of fact, i'd go to say the majority of the people who play don't.

Great job, but verbally provoking people in a game is not strategy sry.
Its a game treat it as such, its not a life or death situation, you can show some respect
for your "enemies" it won't hinder you too bad.
I read some of the scrub article, and whoever wrote it sounds like a child.
7.5/10 on the vid, I actually liked the music D:

With the whole hit and run shit, utsusemi really helps (I've played many sides of the table in ballista, even the hit and run), and ill say utsusemi makes it easier
Why? ppl have to diaga/insert any ga to you first, before they can actually get to you...if u got shit like crimson cuisses, u should be out of range already by time the -ga even lands
Without shadows, they wont bother -ga'ing you, they'd just start with the bind/grav or w/e first...and once u get bind/grav, that really puts u back
again this is just with regards to hit and running
if u get bind/grav, there's a high chance u wont get out alive if their whole team is there, depending on what the jobs are and what items u have instore.
I know what Taint is trying to say
Yes, we all know utsusemi isn't the end all defense, it is not...no shit
But it is what it is, 3shadows, it's another way of forcing someone to do a predictable spell on you
shadows up? You will be expecting the -ga. In fact, you're hoping and forcing them to Ga. hence the point of being in constant motion, got movement speed gear? even makes it better
Now, if the enemy is stupid enough to try do single target spells on you? More power to you, shadows have that...if they ga? That's what u want, you're predicting/setting for that,
Now im not saying its flawless, but that's the point, if u know what ur doing u should be able to get in do what u want, and get out by the time the -ga lands with sprint and a movement speed gear.
The only jobs that really cockblocks this best is a ranger.
If im sam/rng? I tend to pick on ppl that has no shadows as "my barrage test dummies"....
I've done both pld/rdm, and pld/nin
call it what u want of me, but i still prefer the constant motion/offense playstyle i use with pld/nin than the bridk wall style of pld/rdm
Why?
I have my reasons
some of which are
- On Bismarck, noone waste their time on a PLD/RDM, unless they have 10 lethe+1...so all that defense ends up being pointless....seriously...the only thing ull end up ever doing is just curing ppl....that's it.....if someone attacks a pld/rdm on Bismarck guess what that means? There is prolly 10 other ppl beside them with dispel spamming and 2hr's ready....
- RDMS on Bismarck don't take lightly to PLD/RDMS....ppl like Camro(friend), Kuyan (Friend) will make ur life as a pld/rdm a living hell, and i mean literally, he would literally dispel u 10x while having their team stuncockblock you, and have someone pound on ur ass...
You'd just see ur phalanx, barspells, stoneskin, and 5 other random buffs just disappear in 6seconds, and all the mages have a thing of aspiring the living shit out of u.
I've had instances wherre I'd just watch camro and Kuyan and 2 other DRKS and/or BLMS, would stun lock a pld/rdm, while camro and kuyan dispel the living shit out of them, so by time ur able to even get sentinel off, its next in line to be dispelled either by the spell or a lethe+1
So those are the two situations on my server, second happens if the match has alot of mages, the first is whathappens when its not mage heavy, so ppl just ignore you, so all that buffs on you ends up being meaningless
Edit: But i will say, sending ppl /tells is a diff story though...that seems like talkin shit, but i wont get into that....

Again, different experiences/strategies breed from different servers.
On Carby, due to the somewhat dwindling population (and people who come a few times then disappear), it's hard to get to know anyone, which makes it even harder to coordinate. If they're JP? Good luck you might as well stay quiet the whole match.
Thus when in an uncapped match, should you get stripped of shadows, or that MNK decides to give chase.... there is no one backing you up. You are on your own for the most part. So it's normally better to stand and fight than die running. Hence the defense build. They won't give chase to my ass (if they can catch me. Go Go W legs!), and if they can, I've got the defensive means to make it back to wherever my team disappeared off to.
I've tried PLD/NIN a few times before and it simply can't go toe to toe with... almost anyone. Hit and run tactics won't do you much good if there is no wall of players to retreat behind.

if u sub /nin for dual weild to do more damage with 2 swords then thats fine i suppose, i used to do it all the time. but lately i dont use pld for real ballista anymore, only use it as /rdm in dio for 1 on 1 and stuff. why? coz its not as fun as mnk :x
now if u sub nin for mnk in ballista, FAIL!
but thats not the point of this whole arguement so carry on >.>

i think 80% of the KI ballista comunity finds it disrespectful to be sending /tells when you ws someone... Babyboy how would you like me to kill your family then call you and say "hey i tickled feather them with a razor blade" hmmm not very polite, this is what provoked all the negativity, and one who causes that isnt very smart.
and as pld/rdm not being a team player is full of shit... me being a pld/rdm means i get to distract the annoying rdms and that helps my team out, now your wondering pfft a pld cant kill a rdm... well guess what, no not any stupid pld can, only the ones who think diffrently.
pld/rdm to me is more DoT rather then hit and run type /nin, and when people hit you and your blazespikes do an extra 10 dmg each hit thats 20 dmg in total... man how i love those multi hit weapons.
