Thief Soloing Guide LV1-55

Let me start off by saying this is all from my personal exp, I've been playing FFXI for a very long time so I am very knowledgeable about a lot of stuff This guide may not be for most THF's who are just starting out with this being their 1st or one of their first jobs, most likely this will be the case..

Starting out on THF at Lv1 I have a lot of skills capped out from previous jobs, this will undoubtedly make my soloing go much smoother. 75 RNG benefits my THF because marksmanship is capped and merited to Lv4 of 8, also I have rdm at lv 75 giving Parrying a big head start. and capped evasion 220(i beleive, not 100% sure but close enough). steps I have taken to help THF in particular as far as merits go: Dagger Lv4, and Eva Lv4. I have Woodworking and Alchemy both Lv80 for my RNG main. This plays a big role in leveling THF cost effectively, because I rely on status effect Bolts heavily.

the gear ive listed is the gear i used, not to say its a must... just use your best judgement

Food 1-25 Meat Mithkabobs, 25-55 Squid Sushi/Sole Sushi for Melee
Rolanberry Pie 1-20 Wizard Cookies 20-55 for mages

WHM will be using Club mostly during solo I recomend using meat kabobs

Lv1-6 Equipment

Additional Jobs: BLM,BRD,WHM,SMN,RDM,BLU,PUP,RNG,DNC,SCH,DRG,WAR,MNK,NIN,SAM,PLD,BST,COR,DRK
Lv1-6 South Gustaberg Stone Eater*, Tier 1 Goblin
Pretty straight forward... you wont get a single useful Bolt until Lv10 so just buy some Meat Kabobs and Selbina Milk. (1hp/tick regen helps more than you'd think!) At lv 1-6 South Gustaberg, Stone Eaters are damn nice exp since they're Tough at lv 1-3 and can easily be chained. It took me about 30 min to get to lv 5, focusing mainly on these guys and I kept at em with a Tier 1 Gob, here and there. Once you're Lv6, head back to town, unload, and purchase next set of gear.
(I found on BLM it is best to stick with the Bee's and Tunnel Worms till Lv6 use EXP Band at Lv5 and at Lv6 call NPC and Target anything up to DC.. your NPC will make quick work of anything for 40-60 EXP as your Band should still be active for most of 6-7, I'd imagine this would be the best strategy for most mage jobs aside from RDM)

==================================================================

Lv6-10 Equipment

    Lv7 Leather Armor set, Bounding/Leaping Boots, Feathered Collar +1
    Lv9 Compound Eye Circlet
    Lv10 Legionnaire's Crossbow, Blind Bolt Quiver x12

Additional Jobs: BRD,WHM,SMN,RDM,BLU,PUP,RNG,DNC,DRG,WAR,MNK,NIN,SAM,PLD,BST,COR,DRK
Lv6-10 South Gustaberg Maneating Hornet, Land Crab
I went to the little ponds near Dangruff Wadi and killed the Crabs and Bees found there, its a grind but a fairly quick one.
(BLM and SCH should head to Konschat Highlands, effectivly soloing the worms here for 180-200exp Lv7-8 by lv 9 some will be giving as low as 60)

==================================================================

Lv10-16 Equipment

    Lv12 Traveler's Mantle
    Lv13 Brass Xiphos +1
    Lv14 Balance Ring x2, Battle Gloves, Silver Earring +1 x2
    Lv15 Acid Bolt Quiver x12
    Lv16 Bone Harness +1 body and legs, Bone Ring +1 x2
Additional Jobs: BLM,BRD,WHM,SMN,RDM,BLU,PUP,RNG,DNC,SCH,DRG,WAR,MNK,NIN,SAM,PLD,BST,COR,DRK
Lv10-16 King Ranperre's Tomb Grave Bat, Tier1 Goblin, Rock Eater
Great you can use Blind bolts now also you get 1st of 4 Evasion Bonus traits which really helps evade attacks on top of the ability to blind your target.. Sadly the main target early on is the Bats^^ don't bother tryin to blind them, although the ranged DMG is not bad. Now you should head out to King Ranp's Tomb..
Lv10-13 go down into the first cave kill the Bats and T1 gobs within the whole first cave, I just follwed a pattern and by the time i got back to the start they were repopping and exp was pretty decent.
Lv13-16 you'll wanna go for Rock Eaters, you can find these on the 1st map at H-6 but you'll need sneak and invis to get to them as they are hiding past the tier 2 gobbies over by the Goblin Gruel and these worms aggro to sound but do not link. I recommend getting maybe 10 Hi-pots and a Reraise scroll to get through lv 13 and 14 just incase you get in over your head... the worms will be checking T-T+ 13-14, if you decide run there's a chance you'll get hit with Bind and then Stonega and then Die ^^ at 15-16 you'll start seeing DC and EM and also you will now have the ability to use Sneak Attack cept it's rather pointless to use because the worms will aggro before you can sneak up behind em and also you can use Acid Bolts at Lv 15.. this is a very great spot to exp.
(BLM,SCH,SMN, should be able to head to the worm part of this range by Lv12 maybe Lv11 as BLM... these jobs can also leave this camp and head on to Maze of Shakrami by Lv15. Light DD jobs such as BRD or WHM should not try worms till 14)

==================================================================

Lv17-19 Equipment

Additional Jobs: BLM,RDM,BLU,PUP,RNG,DNC,SCH,DRG,WAR,MNK,NIN,SAM,PLD,BST,DRK
Lv17-19 Maze of Shakrami Tier2 gobs, Maze Makers
These worms Do Not aggro so an initial Sneak Attack to start the fight is definatly worth the effort. These worms do link however so take the necesary precautions, same with gobs. You may find exp to slack off once 18-19 but stick with it because it's not that bad really or you can go to Korraloka Tunnel at 19...

Alternate Lv19-21

Qufim Island Gigas' Leech
You'll find these serving the will of a Gigas Trapper all over the map.
(BLM,SMN,RDM and SCH suggested to take the Alternate choice when they can BLU can head to Korroloka Tunnel at Lv18 )

==================================================================

Lv20-23 Equipment

    Lv20 Mercenary Knife x2, Sub Ninja, Sleep Bolt Quiver x12
    Lv21 Beetle Armor +1 Body and Legs, Beetle Ring +1 x2, Spike Necklace
Additional Jobs: BLM,SMN,RDM,BLU,PUP,RNG,DNC,SCH,DRG,WAR,MNK,NIN,SAM,PLD,BST,DRK
Lv20-23 Korraloka Tunnel Land Worm
1st off sub nin and buy 2 Mercenary knives. or if you prefer sword then keep the Flame Sword mainhanded till 28 also at lv 20 you can use Sleep Bolts and you can sleep mob>> run behind and Sneak Attack them now this is a bit tricky on worms as they can and most likely will turn around and face you while they're still asleep, but there is a little trick to get past this by running though the worm rather than around it after sleeping it but doesn't always work and after getting annoyed at it failing usually I said F it and stopped trying..
(BLU can come here as low as Lv18, soon as they learn Bludgeon)

================================================================================

Lv24-27 Equipment

    Lv24 Emporer/Empress Hairpin, Nomad's Mantle
    Lv25 Republic Dagger x2(for the evasion), Kingdom Trousers, Power Crossbow, Bloody Bolt Quiver x12

Additional Jobs: BLM,RDM,BLU,PUP,RNG,DNC,SCH,DRG,WAR,MNK,NIN,SAM,PLD,BST,DRK
24-27 Qufim Island Land Worm, Gigas, Clipper Great now you're lv 24THF/NIN utsusemi /cheer target the worms at the pond as much as you can 24-26 at 25 you can use bloody bolts.. make sure you get em by the stack of quivers as these will now be your best friend and with the prices latley they aren't hard on the wallet.. at 25 you can take on some crabs but i recommend sticking with worms till 26.. at 26 you should be able to handle crabs and the occasional gigas, as worms will stop being worth your time, you will need to use bloody bolts somewhat heavily at this point. also you can now consistantly sleep the mob and run behind him to sneak attack. for that i wanna go into a bit of detail as to how you pull it off without hitting the mob before you get to the other side and without disengaging before. its quite simple.. once SA is ready wait for yourself to swing the second you do hit sneak attack and then sleep bolt the mob right away, you should have plenty of time to run behind without hitting the mob, also try not to stay locked on the the mob in any event just toggle it off after you engage for the first time. I have enough time to run behind and stack a WS with sneak attack using this technique.. if your sleep bolt fails just disengage and keep shooting till it sleeps as thats about all you can do. I found Shadowstitch to be very useful on Crabs and Gigas binding them in order to back off and get Utsusemi up.(BLM,SCH,BST,SMN, might be better off at Alternate campe once 25/26 BST can get Slime pets and Familiar them these pets will ruin almost anything in the Tunnel just use zeta biscuits and be ready in 45min or so for the slime to uncharm)

Alternate: 26-29

Korroloka Tunnel Gigas SpiderThese can be dangerous with so many links nearby and people killing them at times.. they don't always respawn as BST.

================================================================================

Lv28-31 Equipment

    Lv28 Archer's Knife x2
    Lv29 Dodge Earring x1
    Lv30 Mrc.Cpt. Doublet and Belt, Noct Brais +1, Rajas Ring, Genin Earring

Additional Jobs:RNG,WAR,DRK
Lv28-31 Yuhtunga Jungle Yuhtunga Mandragora This is by far the best exp you'll ever get solo, these things are sooo easy^^ all you need to do is grab a pair of Archers knives (a must) and spam the shit outta Bloody Bolts, dont even bother using sneak attack its not even worth it just spam away on bloodies till they KO, an often confused subject about Bloody Bolts and their damage though you see that you are only draining 0 HP you are still draining 1/2 or full effect of the Bolt despite it saying you only drain 0HP, like if a 75BLM walks out to South Gustaberg with full hp and casts drain on a bee... he drained 0HP right? but the bee still died ^_~, you should easily chain 4 these mobs for up to 280 exp on occasion you can chain 5 but i think i got 2 or 3 of those, you will surpass the exp/hr you'd gain in most any PT this range.
(at this point i only know of 4 jobs two be able to camp the jungle mandragora's, nukers take alternate, gob pets, DD can probably handle the gob pets too)

Alternate 28-31

Bibiki Bay Goblin's Rarab there]s only one BST gob that spawns these that isn't Lv 72, it's a patherfinder, he's one of the last mobs you'll see headin towards to Lvl 60+ exp area. a few other bunnies around if you agg all you can do is zone em, can also try the gobbie bees in yhoater near the mandragoras

================================================================================

Lv31-36 Equipment
    Lv35 Federation Kukri x1(Mainhanded when RACC could be spared)
    Lv36 Deft Ring x1

Additional Jobs:RNG,WAR,DRK
31-36 Yhoater Jungle Yhoater Mandragora Same thing as the 28-31 range just on a bit tougher mandies.. actually most of these were checking IT to me 31-32, but with my set-up I was able to handle 95% of them. at 33 it will be worth the effort to use sneak attack + Viper Bite on the start or in the middle .. or whenever.. but you'll most likely only get it off once per fight because the Added effect of poison from VB will keep them from sleepin again.
(I'd continue with various BST pets with any job not listed here, DNC idk.. maybe can handle these?)

================================================================================

Lv36-40 Equipment
    Additional Jobs: BLM,RDM,BLU,PUP,RNG,DNC,SCH,DRG,WAR,MNK,NIN,SAM,PLD,BST,DRK
    Lv36-40 Eastern Altepa Desert Goblin's Spider These are great EXP too and yet kinda dangerous, not only do you have the gobbie master to worry about, you'll also have.. Cactuars, Undead, Other gobs, and.. Manticore(you aggro one of these you are gonna die they will catch you shortly after your flee wears off. but for the spiders themselves.. easy kill and SATA+VB will take out 3/4 of their HP. 36-39 can easily chain 5 them for up to 300 exp, one thing i did start doin in the event of aggro was just flee to the chocogal at the telepoint, popped a sneak oil to get past the 2 ants and just grab a chicken and you'll lose aggro, now this could work with manticore i suppose but i never aggroed one.
    (Nukers can come here by Lv35 I'd sub nin in most any case

    ================================================================================

    Lv40-45

    ok i didnt solo this part happy.gif nooo.. I'm sure there is somethin out there a BST's pet or somethin..

    ================================================================================

    Lv45-50 Equipment

      Lv43 Swordbelt +1
      Lv45 Brigandine
      Lv46 Bone Knife +1(mainhand)
      Lv47 Bravo Subligar
      Lv48 Hornetneedle(Off-hand, took me 7 hours to get), Life Belt
      Lv50 Corsair's Knife(mainhand), Rapparee Harness, Swift Belt(use Life Belt for TP if you can't get this), R.K. Belt, Jalzahn's Ring

    Additional Jobs: BLM,RDM,BLU,PUP,RNG,DNC,SCH,DRG,NIN,SAM,PLD,BST
    45-50 Cape Terrigan Goblin's Rabbit It's pretty much the same shit as Eastern altepa but without manticore and now you'll have Hide if you aggro a non-BST gob, not to say you can't hide from a BST gob, you just need too kill his bunny first, a few times this happened to me . all i did was use perfect dodge>> kill bunny>> hide from gobbie BST. There are also alot of other rabbits in one particular camp, the Outpost, which is where i first had to go as the other camps were taken.. these bunnies link like crazy so either A: be good and don't F up or B: wait for a safer spot to free up.
    (might be possible for DRK or WAR to handle these at 47 or so)

    ================================================================================

    Lv50-55 Equipment

      Lv52 Rogue's Armlets
      Lv54 Flourite Ring x1

    Additional Jobs: BLM,RDM,BLU,PUP,RNG,DNC,SCH,DRG,NIN,SAM,PLD,BST
    50-55 Gustav Tunnel Goblin's Leech Same as the other gobbie pets just a bit less space to work with and a lot more competition these will get you to 55 with no problems after 52.. 50-51 might be rough for some I did miss quite a bit of my ranged attacks on these and had to zone them several times pre-52 if theyre givin you a hard time just go back to cape terrigan, try dual Archer's, get a Duo Buddy, PT or do campaign or somethin. you could also try Labyrinth of Onzozo gob leeches theyre in the same room Ose will pop in.
    (BLM and NIN can come at 48/49.. Freeze will oneshot Leeches where they sit granted you dont get resisted, usually you can just oneshot em no matter where the gob is facin.. if resisted, Run Like Hell

    ================================================================================

    Lv55-75

    I am only 55 now so i can't tell ya for sure where to go but I do have a few ideas: There's 3 BST gobs with lv 57-61 pets in Pso'Xja poss 56-62 area? Bibiki Bay could be an option 63/64-68 against Hobgoblin Animalier pets, I know BLM can start at 61, I've seen Lv 62 NIN come here, and I solo'd my RNG here at 64. 69-75 range I'm thinking ToAU regoins might have some good camps.. mamool's pets, wyverns...

    now before I end this I want everyone to know that in some cases there probably is a better place to go but for the most part what ive listed is your best bet for fast solo exp, for lvls 1-40 you can also use this guide for WAR DRK and RNG as they can also use bloody bolts, (yes i did the same thing for those jobs as well) although you'll need to dual weild archers for WAR and DRK from 28-40, 28-30 for RNG. and certain parts of this guide can work for most any other job. DNC is an optional Sub 10-20,

    also note.. I stopped using Archers knives at lv 40.. not to say they're useless at this point but i never really missed much on my ranged attacks 45~ proabably due to my merited skill

    I hope this helps anyone wanting to lv THF but havin trouble finding a PT.. I spent alot of time with my flag up early on after awhile I said screw it I dont need a stinkin PT and now i'm 55,. and remember this is a "Guide" to leveling THF not "Instructions" so you'll probably end up doin things your own way with what ive said taken into consideration

    I added more job possibilities... not gonna add to the equipment though this was created mainly for thieves having difficulty finding a party or would just prefer not to be in one, whatever the case may be. anything in purple is more of an educated guess rather than actually being tested, though where I do go in detail is most likely from personal exp.

    Edit your main post to include the equipment information. When you get time make use of the Bold and Colour palettes to highlight certain things. Also consider the format and display. Make a simple legend and stick to it. Listen to peoples feedback (and constructive criticism. Ignore the morons).

    Rather helpful guide for soloing thanks! You can also say Ghelsba Outpost for 10-14 /dnc is perfect with no downtime ever unless you take on the EM machine.

    Actually having now had a look at the guide it's really good. I'd have never thought of some of those areas for soloing etc. In fact for the lower level ones I might even Solo with my RNG ohmy.gif

    Very nice guide. I will definetly try to get RNG up from lv28 lol XD

    Also from lvl 20-23 you can solo goblin' beetles in sauromogue champaign (sp) near Garlaige Shitadel,

    by that campfire. I got Chain 4-5 easy on RNG with those, did the same for DRG.

    Added from lv32-34 you can solo Goblin' Leeches near Outpost in Zitah, but you might need PL.

    Great Job, Gov.

    Where's the diary accounting for all the wacky adventures to go along with the guide?

    Very nice guide though. Could work as a general guide for soloing on quite a few jobs with a few tweaks here and there for specifics.

    Where's the diary accounting for all the wacky adventures to go along with the guide?

    And where are all the faggots to jump in defending the simpletonicity of that thread, just because they want to take shots at me?
    (I'm probably not helping this thread, am I. sad.gif S'ok, I'll delete my posts soon if this gets stickied. Mods, hump on it!)

    Edit @ below: I was just annoyed that 1) she thought it was useful, 2) she got so sandy vag over it, and 3) everybody else tried to pretend it was some amazing information we needed. I made a big deal out of it, and so did everybody else. Which is why by the time I went to Orlando and came back, the last thing on my mind was continuing to fight the power. smile.gif

    Lol, sorry I'm playing devil's advocate here. I personally didn't have a problem with the diary but this thread is definately alot more beneficial than the blog style post in question.

    ugh why would you tell people about this? most of these camps can only support 1 person. better off keeping it a secret. that blm solo guide has already ruined things enough.

    This Guide looks cool, really. It can help desperate people that don't want to make their own PT, or when there's no player supply happy.gif;

    Again excellent guide. I got RNG from 28-30 in Yuhtunga Jungle off Mandies spamming bloody bolts. Anywhere from 250-325 EXP with chain 5's, I got to lv30 before my RDM friend got to lv29 (we were both 28 to start with).

    Suggestion: You could also put little notes in for people using guide for other jobs seperate from THF, like RNG for example, and put gear choices in for those jobs under the THF gear. May be time wasted but it might raise the bar for some people thinking they can skimp out on good gear.

    Keep up the good work biggrin.gif

    Nice guide. For the Gigas' Leeches in Qufim, a 'camp' at Delkfutt's works well as there are usually at least 2 BST gigases with pets to pull and their resummon time is about 1min.

    Any job that can use bolts can pwn the shit out of yhutunga and yhoator. I lurve mandies so much lol.

    I just got 15 on THF after a day of torment in the dunes. I look forward to trying this out.^^

    Caring enough to properly reformat it so the tags are accepted?

    This, also, looks like a BST solo guide with all the focus on pets.

    Do you know what you COULD do that I WOULD suggest for sticky?

    Write a guide on how to search for members for a party, how to send tells to potential members, what to look for in a party, where to take them at certain levels, specifics on camps, and how to efficiently communicate and lead a group of people in EXP.

    In all seriousness the guide isn't half bad.

    Reformat it, polish it up so it looks nice, take out the editorial comments, add some links to wiki for mobs and zones.

    Edit;
    Also, more than 7 posts.
    Nothing says hit-and-run validation like not being an active member of the community and crying about your posts not getting stickies.

    Clean it up, and PM a mod if you really care.

    hehe... I think you need to read a bit more bud.. not calling you out for a flame war or anything.. but read the entire post... this was color coded bolded ... evrything.. i have been away from KI and did not realize the reformatting.. I do not come to KI to flame people and to converse about stuff... I come here for info regarding FFXI which is why I had written this Guide in the 1st place.. I could not give 2 shits about whether or not im a "member" or "user"of KI.. the fact is I wrote this guide to help out fellow THFs.. I Then Listened to what others had to say and collaberated on it.. adding in other jobs that could use such a guide... my biggest problem with KI is that6 people dont come here for info... they come here to flame others with info.. which is it going to be for you? either use this info for your own gain or gtfo.. and im serious.. im tired of trying to please fellow gamers with useful information and then being told the shit I came up with doesnt meet their standards.. at this point I DONT CARE use it.. better yourself ingame... OR make fun of me while I better MYSELF ingame.. take care ^^

    doing an edit on what you had said "looks like a BST solo guide" well... lol.. just... hahahaha... ill just simply say that my BST is lvl 66 and i have never been so disappointed in my life.. this game is about progress man.. use it or lose it.. despite what it looks like.. 99.9% ofthe people to reply have been considerate and used what I've said to better their characters.. so wat are you going to do? bitch or run along? pick one and do so.. I have no time for the bitching =)

    you suggest I dont Know how to make a party.. let me give you a little insight on my exp as a fellow FFXI member..this guide was made befoe the LEVEL SYNC for one.. seeking when i get home from work... constantly looking for potential members.. lacking a mage or a tank day in day out... look at the gear I had listed.. its not your run-of-the-mill thf gear.. i worked hard on the job, in fact the only thing i was missing comunity terms was PCC.. im a mithra acc on a mithra THF is a low concern you need to read bud.. i did.. i paid attention to leveling up.. to everything in this game.. i hit a bump on thf.. and i delt with it.. now you are feedin me shit for "noy making a party" READ!! this guide was written because such an action was inconceivable.. i dont know what server you are on but this was IN FACT the case on mine.. I'm sorry.. I can take some of what you said into consideration .. pretty much about PMing a moderator which i have.. it is just disgusting to hear such words from someone who seems to know the game as well as i do.. enough said.. and I apologize for going off.. i just dont think you have any idea what i had gone through to get that far as THF... not a fun task.. but I managed and that was why I am extending my expeiriences to anyome who might be in the same boat
