Question- after its used for the bcnm fight- does one still have it in their inventory (yet broken?- kinda like KSNM 30 orbs?) or is it completely gone from the inventory?

If you trade it to the BC entrance, and nothing happens, it's used.
Otherwise no way of knowing, besides remembering you already used it. ;/

If you are planning on buying one, and are concerned about getting scammed, just don't pay the orb supplier till you enter the BC.
