Okay, so I've been playing around some. Like I was trying to say before, it has never been confirmed that all of your HP+/- gear is used in the calculation of your latent HP%, and it turns out it isn't, but rather than the visible gear vs. accessories thing, the only one that I tested that didn't work was back slot for whatever reason. So in summary:

The following affects Max HP for the purposes of latent calculation:
Main
Sub
Ammo
Head
Neck
Ear1 (L.ear)
Ear2 (R.ear)
Body
Hand
Ring1 (L.ring)
Waist
Legs
Feet
HP merits

The following does not affect Max HP for the purposes of latent calculation:
Ring2 (R.ring)
Back
Convert HP>MP gear
HP+% gear
Food

Unknown effect
Range

Beyond that, the function just seems to be current/total < 76%, so basically for now, unless you are using any gear with HP +/- in the slots listed as "Unknown" (read: I didn't bring gear for that slot with HP on it to test), then use your latent macro, unequip your back piece and any convert HP > MP or HP+% gear you have and type "" and if you get 75% or lower you're good.

Proof of the back thing and evidence of the < 76% thing:

because I got banned from the site showing I did not merit stone or quake i can not comment there on this. I want to know what you guys think of this, double check the info on this *esp after the upcoming update* to see if any of this is "ninja Edited" by SE.

with all said and done I want ot try to get a better sorc's ring trigger guide i can put in the sticky.

I would do more testing my self and check things but unable to because I do not have time. So i write this to try to get more knowalge to everyone once I find people that can.

This is the exact same sort of problem I've had with my Minstrel's Ring from time to time. People tried to tell me that Minstrel's Ring is special, which struck me as a load of nonsense.

Other info posted on same thread:

SomeJP site :

----------------------------------------------------------

Affecting Latent:
HP Merits
All HP- items (P.Rope, R.Pumps, etc.)
Some HP+ items (Kirin's Pole, Seveneyes, W.Turban, C.Chain, Angel's Earring+1, Y.Serawheel, Wonder Kaftan, Bronze/Silver/Gold Mog Belt, Sorcerer Belt, Bloodbead Ring, Light Ring, Bomb Queen Ring has all been confirmed (as of Jan 31 2008 ).

Not Affecting Latent:
All Convert HP-to-MP items (Zenith, Serket, Astral Ring, etc.)
Some HP+ items (Gigant Mantle, Intensifying Cape, Prism/Rainbow Cape, Happy Egg, etc.)→For some reason Ammo, Back, and R.Ring does not affect latent

Added Feb. 01 2008
There has been some controversy on the BLM threads whether BQR would affect latent, and after additional testing, it does not affect latent if it's worn on R.Ring. If it is worn on the L.Ring however, it will affect latent.

Answer to this (from same thread):

Okay, I checked silver moogle belt and it does not, in fact, affect max HP calculation for latent, despite what was posted on that JP site. I also verified the L ring / R ring thing, and it is true. I'll see if I can't borrow an HP+ earring again later on tonight or something for that one.

Anyhow, the moogle belt not counting brings more regularity back into what I'd posted above. Basically everything counts except Back, R. Ring, Convert gear, HP+% gear, and Food. Also possibly R. Ear and Range since those are untested.

People tried to tell me that Minstrel's Ring is special, which struck me as a load of nonsense.

This guy mentioned something similar about different JSE rings working differently:

because I got banned...

... well that sucks

I posted this wall of text in the bluegartrls forum. Tell me if it makes sence

+=Wall of text warning But this will answer your question about the Sorcerer's ring.=+

To activate the Latent of the Sorcerer's Ring you need to have a base HP of 75%
And when trying to active your Latent you have to be very familiar with two types
of effects: Convert HP/MP and +-HP+-mp

If you are going to add HP(for some reason) to try to activate your latent then
For Example:

Test1A
Your Base HP is 1000, you then try to reach latent with +HP-MP gear
Base HP____Add.HP_____Base HP now is______Total______Hp%@1000HP______HP%When fully Cured
1000_______333________1333+0____________1333______75%_______________100%

Test2A
Your Base HP is 1000, you then try to reach latent with Convert MP to HP
Base HP____Add.HP_____Base HP now is______Total______Hp%@1000HP______HP%When fully Cured
1000_______333_______1000+333___________1333______100%_____________133%

Now the normal way of activating your ring latent by lowering your HP
For Example:

Test1B
Your Base HP is 1000, lowering HP with -HP+MP gear
Base HP___Sub.HP___Base HP now is___Total________HP%When fully Cured
1000______250______750-0__________750_________100%

Test 2B
Your Base HP is 1000, lowering HP with Convert HP to MP
Base HP___Sub.HP___Base HP now is___Total________HP%When fully Cured
1000______250______1000-250_______750_________75%

Summary
Test1A: With +HP-MP gear you can reach your Latent effect at 1000HP
Test2A: With Conver MP to HP gear you can't reach your latent at all, just makes it worse actually.

Test1B: With -HP+MP gear, your base HP is reduced, so a newer lower number is needed to get 75%
Test2B: With Convert HP to MP gear, your base remains the same, but since your HP is lowered in relation to your Max HP, you can reach 75% and lower even when fully cured.

Heck you can be at 1HP being 100% and still have your Ring active if you use Convert HP to MP gear.

i actally don't know how to respond to that. i was trying to think of a a way.

the basic idea of those gear slots not counting ( and could be a bug) is this

ill take your numbers mett lets say your base hp is 1000 and you use gear to push you down to 750 hp.

now lets say you take everyhing off again, your still at 750/1000 = 75%
and this is suppose to trigger it.

now lets say you take everything off again but this time you are 751/1000
(norammly the ring doesn't work right?)

now if you put a prisum cape on and just use the ring, what you expect is 751/1010 = 74% so you expect the ring to work.

but the back DOES NOT count. because of this you are still stuck at 751/1000 and left with a un-triggered ring.

because of this, you can be in yellow coloered hp and not have the ring triggered >.>
at lest this is why for noting gear slots that " does not work"
