as a PLD, its really a call of how much money you have to spend.. I know quite a few good PLD spells come around lvl 30-40 (flash as the primary), and the DEF upgrade of silver mail is marginal at best.. especially since the upgrade at lvl 40 when you get plate is so huge. If you have the money to spare, do it. otherwise, dont sweat it. Also, if you have your chain mail from lvl 24 left over, you can get a goldsmith crafter to upgrade it easily.

I always try to have best possible armor at any level as a PLD. But that's just me.

Remember that if you farm money now and buy the armor you will get the money back when you sell it, and then you can afford good armor again.

contrary to what people say, silver mail is a nice def boost from centurion...sure so its only ~15 more defense for the whole suit (a good amount but when you have 210+ def with food and buffs thats not a whole lot) but its a lot less ugly...hehe..

At lv60, before you have AF3 armor, Gold Curiass is the best armor for PLD. It looks just like IM with def at 44 and +2VIT. AND, it is very cheap...
