*necro bump*

sorry been gone, I'm living in Japan now. So let me respond.

Of course the master is a better target than the puppet, but our puppets have provoke. that + shadows can make our abillity to survive quite strong, add out fairly good evasion (very good if you stack eva gear) and you have one difficult to hit master. All that time that you are whiffing, me and my puppet are not.

Dont get me wrong, mnk is the king of tearing shadows away, but with provoke up, it can be hard to do it quickly enough. on top of that, my puppet has a strong blaze spikes effect, ever swing you take on him will be 17-25ish dmg to you and you're also being forced to attack him with voke. With my Pantin Taj he gets 1 hp a tick with light maneuver he gets 4 hp back a tick, with repair he gets um... honestly idk, but its a fricking lot.

The reason why the pup is strong is because, even though you want to pwn the master fast, you can't, and if you try, you will waste precious time whiffing.

Thats not to say a mnk is a pushover by no means, I've lost to em a few times, but I usually win (prob 65-70% of the time)

lots of the attach's make great combos, and I've recently been trying some neat tricks that soften a target up and make them easier to kill.

For example against a rdm/nin I go pup/rdm, I gear serenade 1/2 of his blm attaches but on his whm frame, diaga/silence combo (ty dansieg for your brilliance) and then deactivate, swap frames and let my puppet nuke the rdm's remaining buffs off so far it has not failed me once, either I win, or the rdm sprints away.

as for mnk, I can throw in a quick paralyze and then swap to melee bot. i have yet to try this and it could be bad if the mnk chi's the puppet before I turn off, still maybe with shock absorber up, he wont take dmg /shrug

mnk has a hard time on pup as is, now imagine doing it with Slow, or para on. You are in for a loooooong fight.

Pup is not unbeatable, but it has the tools to handle almost any situation if you prepare properly

So does BLU tongue.gif

First, wb. Second, I'll admit now with relic and Stringing Pummel PUP could be a force to reckon with 1v1. But only if the PUP is well played and worth a damn. Kinda like...... every other job.... yea.

The problem with PUP vs MNK still remains that the MNK is a hell of a lot faster than you. Toss in /PLD (or /BLU) and a Blackbelt, Jelly ring, all that crap, and both you and your puppet are struggling to put a dent in the Berlin Wall. Not to mention the JA's like chakra (with invigorate), Penance on Chi blast, etc.

Only way for your puppet to get around something like that would be to nuke. But I doubt it can withstand the MNK's fury at that point, so it's a trade off.

Would definately like to see a well equipped/merited PUP vs the equivalent of a MNK.

Edit: Well technically PUP has had access to Usukane gear since Salvage started.... but how many PUP are walking around in 5/5 Usukane that DON'T have MNK leveled and wouldn't rather show up to a ballista as that instead?

could make same argument for mnk I dont see many mnks with all that gear, in fact i see none, I think i know 2 peeps on my server with black belts.

but yeah, ultimately pup vs mnk is just a fun fight. Also /blu is prob better than /pld for mnk, I cant say I know for sure not being a full mnk myself.

I left KI awhile ago because well nvm that but I didnt come back till now because I've been settling in to Japan.

Anywho I'm PvP starved lol. anyone have some good pup vs pld/rdm vids?tongue.gif

xD,
I usually go
Faiths/empty/empty/Virtue Stone
Arhat+1/Wyvre Gorget+1(Defense and acc good for ballista)/Loq/Ethreal (For/blu)
Arhat+1/Bkote/Jelly/Unyielding
Shadow Mantle/Black Belt/Rasetsu Hakama (good for paralyzing maenuvers)/Hermes sandals (but this is OM would prolly use Suzy boots in 1 on 1)
This is what i wear to official match, but for 1 on 1, I kinda gear according to the job I'm going to fight. If i were going to go vs a pup, I'd lose some -% dmg, but total out with more defense and a good deal of acc
Hades Sainti/empty/empty/Black Tathlum
Usukane Somen/Wyvre+1/Loq/Diabolos' (never had a pup hit hard enough to activate etheral w/ anything other than WS)
Kirin's osode (Though would use Avalon Breastplate or Enkidu Harness here if I had)/Usu Gote/Jelly/Toreador's
Shadow (Would use cuch mantle, whicn I'm getting soon)/Black Belt/Rasetsu hakama (though debatibly kitty pants if acc is an issue)/Usukane Sune-Ate.
This build would still net me a good defense build when paired with cocoon from /blu and provide a sufficient amount of acc as well (especially when adding in focus)

You don't wanna fight a PLD/RDM with Atonement. we're scary like that cool.gif

yeah i know atonement is awesome I need to unlock on my pld soooooo bad, still working on stringing pummel tho, itd be nice if I could get in a good nyzul group though, I bet in like 20 floors I'd have it unlocked :/

I wreck most everything on my pld/rdm except a rdm/nin, those are rough, but I can take rdm/nin easily on pup so /shrug

I need to get the fricking internet at my apartment so I can start playing again ><

lol I felt the same way forever. I just got it 3 days ago, and I'm impressed. Very very worthwhile WS, even if you have to grind points with only floor 20 access.

Also, just in case you don't know, you can do more than 1 WS at a time.

wait wat? pup sucks

Atonement sucks too but nobody ever wants to 1v1 my PLD so it becomes useful.

Obviously you've never fought a good one. But that's not saying much because the good ones are few in all facets of play.

As for atonement, I meant it was worth it in a PvE sense. Inside ballista I've yet to test it, for same reason as you. But outside, best WS I have in my arsenal.

I've fought arguably one of the best PUP's on Pandemonium, and with my /BLU gear which is worse than Vegetto's by far, he couldn't hardly hurt me. I'm pretty sure even /dnc would take them down. His HP and defense were just too low, and I proceeded to just smash him down before he got me into the yellow. I didn't even Chakra.

It'd take something major for a PUP to be able to really pull off a 1v1 versus a well-geared monk who knows how to PvP.

Vegetto can make a video of what happened to my THF. The only difference is it'd hurt PUP twice as fast. Honestly the only way a PUP can win is if the MNK lets them call and dismiss their pet for fast cast nuke. But the MNK has to either let them do that or be completely retarded.

And I've done pretty extensive testing in ballista. It sucks in OM compared to 1v1 for the simple fact people don't live long enough for it to be effective.

It really depends on the person. Some people just can't mentally handle more than 1 target. Especially mage types.

A good MNK can probably handle it, but some people just lock up when a little dragon, crab, or puppet show up.

Did Pup in 60s last night, Pup/Pld.

I had a lot of fun and not many people went after Drille. They tried to go for me, but I actually managed to keep myself alive very well (used to it...) but I went for an HP build and I had about 1129 HP, used Tav Taco. All I did mainly was sent Drille on people with Fire/Light Maneuever active so he'd Provoke/Flash respectively. Deploying on 1 person then deploy on another was very nice for cockblocking Weapon skills or people trying to prevent my team from scoring. In Pash there were 2 Rangers, a Sam/Rng, and a Cor on the oposing team and they made it a little annoying by shooting at Drille. He only died once though from a Sidewinder at 30% HP.

My damage wasn't anything to gloat about but I did get some nice GB kills on people out of nowhere with Cannibal Blade and Raging Fists (I don't have any 75 jobs that can merit H2h noexpression.gif so no Howling for me yet.) I tried to go more for survivability on Drille rather than damage. Got second place in Meriph and that made me happy.

Well pups have to gear both master and pet, if they dont they suck. it couldnt have been that great a pup if it didnt even dent you, did he use a strobe (voke) on you?
