A question for you monks out there.

Keep in mind that I don't actually have this setup, but I might someday, and I like to think about things like this before I start a new job.

So let's say you have a BB, Byakko's, w.turban, fumas and dune boots. In an exp pt would you prefer to be hitting the gear haste cap with fumas or would you prefer the extra damage from kick attacks with the dunes?
Thanks in advance.

In merits, dunes.

Do some research though, this has been discussed for ages.

Yeah, I know I should have researched it more, but it's so hard when every page on KI takes 45 minutes to load. I guess I probably could have checked BG. Anyway, thanks for the answer.

BG won't give this answer. Like most, they favor Haste regardless of its efficacy or lack thereof.

a.) You don't hit the Haste cap for gear wearing Fuma Sune-Ate. It is, in fact, impossible for Monk to do so in normal circumstances (only place it can be done is where an Imperial Ring is active). It's got to do with rounding, but you need 26-27% Haste, depending on how you're getting there, to actually hit the "cap" of 25%.

b.) If you have ~40% Haste, the possibility opens up for Fuma Sune-Ate to outperform Dune Boots in a merit situation (it's not a guarantee, though, we're talking some really small differences here). More Haste and the equation tips in favor of Fuma Sune-Ate.

First, Fumas for meriting, cause dunes are for people missing some of that haste stuff, which your question supposes you are not.

Second,

Do you have sources for the contribution of the various haste items on Monk so that we can see how far behind the cap we are? I already went on wiki and don't see any x/1024 info for Black Belt and Haidate.

There's no question a monk can cap equipment haste without situational (latent) gear, if equipping a staff is allowed.

/facepalm.....

We're talking in meriting gear, retard. A staff is not merit gear. Don't twist the truth to make yourself sound good, you only make yourself look retarded to those of us who know what the fuck is actually under debate.

And for meriting, Dunes. Not fumas. Don't listen to the /anon troll.

The ability of people to take information and then draw the exact wrong conclusion from it never ceases to amaze me. It is, in fact, the only explanation I can find for why people will vehemently defend religious explanations in the face of science.

Dune Boots for fast-kill situations. If you're in one of those fabled parties where you have two Bards, one singing Marches and the other Minuets, then you can think about justifying Fuma Sune-Ate. Slower kill situations are where small amounts of Haste start to add up. This is not rocket surgery.

And I don't have any of the 1024 numbers on hand, but they're posted somewhere on BG if you have the patience to dig. I don't know why you'd need them for Byakko's Haidate, either. I'll let you puzzle out why.

Cream Soda :

Cept yeah. Dunes are best for meriting, unless your party sucks. Then you can use Fuma! Or just leave party so you can use a better pair of feet. ^^

Or sub drg! /jumps on the Ruke bandwagon =D
I actually wanna play around with it once I finish Spharai, do some "3x crit and a dune boot kick added in the mix" jumps. Should be fun.

Posting a picture of gear that not everyone has access to, and was never part of the OP's question, stopped being cool a while ago.

Fuma will give better result. But really it's a monk choice, test both and see which you like more. I use dune boots on salvage, and fuma on merit pt.

Mnk/drg is fun on colibri if you have really good DD with you, then you can have max haste (should have like 27 which is 1 over the cap) + dune boots which is awesome.

General Rule of thumb for deciding thi gear choice: Haste is always active, kick attacks are subject to activation.

Usukane is irrelecovely better than both, but if you're more inclined to 'seeing' your damage on-screen, by all means go dune. But man, to each his own. Its been said before

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH :wall :wall :wall

Small amounts of Haste do not show up in short fights. The effect is lost and the only gain you generally get from Fuma Sune-Ate in merit parties is 3 AGI and 12 HP. Proc-based effects are not subject to this loss. These are not new concepts, so why the fuck do people keep screwing them up?

And just what the hell does "irrelecovely" mean?

ahahhahah you google searched the word to see if it existed. I knew someone would comment on my street termonology. The word when used it proper context gives the general idea of "more likely or certainly".

hahahahhha, I almost died reading that thread. this shit needs to be stickied! God that was good man, but right on the money. Funniest post in ages man...

p.s. Other words that I like to use that are not readily understood: Copacetic (sp?) Kosher. The meaning is "its aaaaaal good" or "everything is everything".
i.e: "Yo, im just here to make sure errythin is copacetic"
Translation: I'm only ensuring everything goes according to plan!"
