Just started making some Ballista videos. Video quality seems much better when downloaded, but you can stream. Enjoy.

the main thing i liked bout the vids was that they wasnt just a bunch of kill shots thrown in there, as if that was all people do in matches sleep.gif; and u showed ur own deaths!

so imo i think they were both good vids but hell i <3 any balli vids ^^^ so make more vids to keep the V entertained, and good job!

Siar...He/she is pretty good and has always been a thorn in my side :/ and I usually go for him if I have options. Love/hate relationship and all.

I'll get more videos provided people show up and we have enough for a 3v3 match. It's usually very rare that we get Ballista to happen as of late, which drove me to start recording them to savor the moment.

I wish I was still around to ballista with you on Valefor but I quit earlier this summer (Unfortunately, if I return, it'll be on a different server). Good to see the videos though smile.gif. Do more if you have time/people show up!

I do so hate to be a downer, the videos were alright. For just starting they're more than satisfactory.

I can't say the same for the player base though...it's poor at best, with few exceptions. It leaves me wondering if people even gear for ballista anymore, or they choose to throw on exp. gear or whatever and just wing it.

Can't stand when things are half-assed (namely gear and style in this case), if you're gonna do something...do it right.

Silly Goltana.

People like you are the reason no one strives for self-improvement anymore.

Hey Rom, long time no see.

-----

At this point in time, gear doesn't really matter so much. Most important thing is actually getting a match to happen, which can be as difficult as splitting an atom with a toothpick and some lint.

For instance, 30-60 caps are nonexistent in my server. The main problem is having to carry extra sets of gear. For the casual gamer, and the even more casual Ballista player, this is annoying especially when matches for such caps rarely happen. Us Ballista regulars have to shout in Whitegate (lol) to have a match happen sometimes.

Uncap is the only saving grace where people can just come in, throw on some EXP gear, wing it, and have tons of fun. Hey now... isn't that what the game is about?

So yeah... lighten up a bit... taking it too seriously me thinks. Those who want to "improve" themselves in a static game do so.

Makes me sad. T-T

But if SE doesn't pay attention to PvP as much as they do PvE, you can't really expect differently from the players.

Hope more people show at your matches so you can enjoy that competitive spirit that keeps the challenges and excitement going from ballista to ballista.

Amen to that.

Sadly... I think SE's done with improving PVP... it's pretty much now left to us hardcores to play around until we all quit one after the other :/

every server is different, siren its 60 that still dominates, everything else is dead, except for uncap of course, just not as popular as 60, besides, 60s are better then uncap, and also, I just used a ton of commas

Most people who prefer 60cap over uncap are the ones that are to lazy to get the gear that alot of uncap setups require. you can do fine with
AH setups but unlike 60cap you cant go with just AH gear and expect to be as good as you could be in 60cap. Skill > gear obviously but no matter how much skill your SH/arhat/destroyer/tigermask monk has when a herald gaiter osode haidate faith monk walks up your probably going to get raped. This is what scares most people away from uncap. Deny it all you want. Personally i cant stand having my abilites capped which is why i will be uncap4life. Grow some ballz, get sum gear, then go try uncap.

Its good there are still players who love ballista. Sadly i gave up on reviving ballista when matches were getting canceled during JP time. If ballista started to get going again i would so come back to ffxi.

PS: Hi faf and golt.

Video was way too long to keep my attention. Then again, I often find just watching ballista with out any kind of editing is pretty boring to begin with...

Thanks for the feedback. Any tips on improving them?

What I try to do with the videos is try to accurately show how the match went, instead of posting a bunch of kill shots; no one wants to see something of that nature. That's why I try to show every kill and death that I take. I think that's pretty crucial especially the deaths I take; I am not doing this for self-glorified, e-peen stroking. That way my performance can be evaluated if someone is bored enough/interested in that sort of thing.

With accuracy of the match in mind, and time consideration, I do edit a lot of the stuff out; mostly in-between skirmishes. A match is approximately an hour long and I edit to the point where the video is about 15 minutes long while at the same time preserving all the skirmishes that I was involved. That time frame seems to be enough to, an extent, accurately portray how the match went from my point of view. Of course there are some matches that require more footage to tell the story. Oddly enough though, watching myself fight has gotten me to start re-evaluating how I approach opponents/skirmishes and especially the poor choices I make.

Even more importantly, the videos are aren't just about it me. They showcase what my opponents can do and how well they fight.

I could brutally edit the videos to say a five minute duration, but how does one condense an hour battle into 1/12th of its original duration and call it an accurate Ballista match video?

You apparently want to make match videos, which is cool, nothin wrong with that.

Me on the other hand, I do it as a source of entertainment, same reason we play video games, watch movies, animes, tv shows, etc, a source of entertainment...and I try to bring that out in my videos.

I really don't and never care to prove to anyone on any server my performance, knowledge or skills in a match, cause I frankly don't give two shits about what anyone else thinks. Besides there's countless people from my server that could testify how I really get down. My videos never did and never will do my true performance justice. I said never will cause I'm not gonna change the way I make videos, I like to aim for the 4-5min mark. Short and sweet.

Heck I started ballista videos based on what people usually called "Frag videos" off FPS games.

Wether or not the original authors intended those stuff to be just for epeen is beyond me and irrelevant now, but I have always found those stuff to be rather entertaining to watch them as clips. So the idea for my style of ballista videos was derived from that concept...clips. I also try to make a theme (somewhat) for each video and match my music along with the ballista match.

I'm not telling you how to make your videos, but I'm just telling how I do it.

I've started doing it for fun 2-3 years ago, but never started spamming videos till I realize how many good feedback I was getting. I've got some bad feedback too ofcourse. The bad ones were merely people who were misinterpreting my videos...aka thinking that I did them just for bragging rights or some silly shit which is why I started showing my own deaths here and there in my latest videos.

But again, I just do it for the entertainment, I like to make my videos enjoyable and I think I've done a pretty good job since it seems so many fans uploaded my stuff on youtube and I have got so many views and requests in pms and shit lol....

But before I finish this post, let me just say this directly to you Red, and any others who cares to know.

Another reason I never made and never will make match style videos...is cause....fraps....eats....up.....every....thing...and I'm not gonna sit there with the shit recording from start to finish, that's just crazy....atleast to me it is...lol. My PC would never forgive me if I ever did that lol. But really there are times, when I get some real good matches, and the coordination with my teammates and I were so intricate and well executed, that it would have made a perfect video, but it's not like you can predict these moments, so you'd just have to hope your shit was recording when it happens lol. And I'm not talking about just killing...like sneaking your way to the rook, scoring at some ridiculous instances, , teammates working together in synch and shit, etc etc

I wanna make more videos but I haven't been hyped lately...maybe when I finish this relic ;;

But ballista's been going real slow on Bismarck for awhile so idk....
