Hey guys. Going on vacation next week and I decided to pick up a Nintendo DS for the trip. Any reccomendations on games? I've been making a list, but don't want to go overboard and end up blowing cash on 8 mediocre games; rather, I would like 2-3 good games.
So far I've seen good things about FFIV and the new Zelda game.
Thanks for the input!
Nintendo DS - Reccomended Titles?

The New Zelda without a doubt.
New Mario Bros. if you like that style of game, it's a really great mix of old and new Mario.
Phoenix Wright games, though if you're starting off may be worth it to just skip to Apollo Justice (think point and click detective games, all the Phoenix games are just ports from GBA, where as Apollo is designed for the DS)
I've heard very good things about The World End With You and FFIV but haven't had the time to pick them up yet.

Zelda, Animal Crossing, New Super Mario Bros, Pokemon, Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced 2, Harvest Moon DS, and Kirby Squeak Squad to name a few.. There are so many good titles! I'm sure I'm forgetting a lot but those are just some I'd recommend. Good luck picking out the right ones!

Well recently I've been having tons of fun with Bangai-O Spirits which was released like a week ago.
You may want to check it out.

Phoenix Wright, and they're all storyline games with a great story. If you do go that route, start with the first, don't just skip to Apollo. The first 3 have a great cast and you'll appreciate Apollo more if you play through Phoenix first.

Pokemon D/P and Animal Crossing are both very good imo. Pokemon D/P has a pretty long storyline, TONS of side stuff, and with wifi you can battle online. Altogether I think I've put 400 hours into my Pearl version and I still play it every now and then. Animal crossing just never ends, although after you collect everything you kinda run out of things to do. But it takes a hell of a long time to collect everything. Also a game I liked a lot was that Dragon Quest game where you bassically do what Pokemon does.
I definitely would suggest you get pokemon if you only get one game though. Either version is fine, just look up serebii.net if you wanna see which has more exclusive versions that you want, and then pick up the other exclusives on wifi.

GBA is like the best game system ever made. Just buy a bunch of old GBA games for five bucks at the game store.

Golden Sun (and the second one) are the only two games anyone needs to GBA. I hope they bring a third for DS.

I had a lot of fun with Resident Evil: Deadly Silence, and I'd reccomend both Sonic Rush titles, but I'm biased on those.
Mario Kart DS is a lot of fun too, very classic play, it's a little light on the unlockables though.
Guitar Hero: On Tour is short and causes massive wrist cramps, but I'd reccomend it.
Animal Crossing is fantastic.
Metroid Prime: Hunters is an amazing multiplayer experience with a pile-of-crap, rushed single player.
Worms: Open Warfare 2 is incredibly fun and has a hell of a lot of stuff to do.
New Super Mario Bros...well, it's a new Super Mario Bros. It's a great game, but there's very little that's "New".
Zelda: Phantom Hourglass is...varied. At worst it's rididculously easy, massively repetative, and unimaginative (all of the items you win from the dungeons I.E. the Grappling Hook have been in previous Zelda games, there's nothing new). Plus there's the fact that you have to keep going back to the same big dungeon after completing the little dungeons to find out where to go next, and this dungeon is populated by unkillable enemies that kill you in one hit and alert every other invincible juggernaught to your whereabouts upon spotting you, places you on a pointless timer (and starts to sap your health if the timer expires) and generally forces you into none-optional stealth play that the game wasn't designed for and it can get annoying. The best part? Every time you go back (and you go back six or seven times) you have to start from the begining and, aside from one or two shortcuts that become available with the acquisition of said items we've all seen before, repeat everything again all six or seven times you go back. And don't expect to be able to speed through it all because you know the solutions, because if you move faster than a crippled sloth, the bad guys will hear and come running to one-hit kill you. Oh and the sailing from Wind Waker is back.
At best, it's pretty and the stylus controlls work well, some of the puzzles are clever without being obscure, and at some points it's genuinly funny.

Mario Kart DS. Its Mario Kart on the DS. Not much else to say other then its fun.
Phoenix Wright games. The first three are wonderfull. Don't skip them.
Trauma Center. To some people a surgery sim may not seem fun, but it is.
Castlevania Down of Sorrow and Portrait of ruin. Side scrolling adventure. They are both quite straigt forward but still entertaining.
MegaMan ZX. Side scrolling MegaMan game thats pretty good. Decent story and gameplay and is worth checking out.
Sonic Rush. Like the old and good Sonic games. A lot more focus on speed in this one then any other I have seen.
There's a second one? Since When?

There's a second one? Since When?
It's called Sonic Rush Adventure, they fixed a lot of the problems with the first and added some pretty neat gimmicks and stuff.

Couldn't agree more. My friends and I have played and it is a great game. The battle tower and online gameplay add a nice new touch to the game.

Thanks for all the great suggestions guys.
Never really played a Pokemon game, they struck me as.... Kid-ish. Might as well buy one and play it, then formulate an opinion.
Probably pick up an FF as well, along with an action/adventure.
Thanks!

These are the games I'd suggest.
Super Mario 64 DS
-Not as good as the N64 version. But still pretty fun.
Final Fantasy III
-Again, the NES version is superior, but this is still pretty fun.
Final Fantasy IV
-Haven't played it, but it's pretty fun from what I heard. Also a lot harder than the original versions from what I heard.
Picross DS
-If you're a fan of puzzle games this is a must.
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney 1-3
-It's Phoenix Wright... It pwns. Although Justice for All is kind of bleh.
Apollo Justice
-Same as above. Great game. It pwns. Nuff said.
Trauma Center: Under the Knife 1 and 2
-Probably my favorite series on the DS. It can be hard as hell though.
Elite Beat Agents
-It's a rhythm game. Not too bad. Just fun watching guys in suits dance >.>

Way too many to list....Castlevania's were great on the DS. Etrian Odyssey is basically the best "draw your own map, we're so old school like that" RPG you can find. Hmmm, Hotel Dusk: Room 215, Elite Beat Agents, FF3/FF4. If you want a real list with seperated genres, etc. PM me. lol

QFT.
If you have a GBA and you don't have Golden Sun(First or Second), I suggest going to your local eBay or Walmart and picking both of these up. Epic storyline, tons of stuff to do and items to get. Along with being able to transfer your First version characters over to the second version via password or linking two GBA's together.
Along with the DS statement. I also really hope they come out with a 3rd version. It would definitely be in my possession the very first day it came out.
(Sidenote: I've still been working on the 2nd version >.>.. Got two of the characters to 99 purely killing wonder birds, and two others are sort of close.)
Now back on topic.
The only game I have for DS at the moment is Pokemon Diamond(just got the DS and game a few weeks ago). Just beat the elite 4 and slowly starting to do other things in the game such as competitions. Also trying to get WiFi set up so I can start doing battles and stuff there too.
I've also heard good things about "The World Ends With You", have yet to pick it up though.

notice: the grappling hook is why you PLAY zelda. . .
grab Zelda: A link to the past and pop that into the gba slot,
I personally had alot of fun with mario supersaga: partners in time, with those mushroom aliens. basically paper mario...
Also Final Fantasy 6, pop that in the GBA slot too..
Also Donkey kong country 2... pop that in the gba slot (though they toned a few things down it seems, i guess having to rebuild things to compensate for mode7? in any case, the gba should have been able to handle it and better sound...) the extra boss kind of reminds me of the donkey kong remake for the original Gameboy mind you. this is a good thing
Sonic Advance 2 was okay, but sonic team still isnt living up to their 90's games.
oh.
and Tetris.
or.. grab a flash2advance and an r4 and go nuts!

The only game you need for a DS is The World Ends With You. It's great because it's long, there's a lot to do, gameplay is nice, the soundtrack is amazing, it keeps you interested, the storyline is extremely genius and has unexpected turns, etc. You won't regret getting it.
That aside; Zelda, Mario Kart, PKMN D/P and random FF's are other good choices too.
...And on the Golden Sun comment, it's probably the greatest handheld game ever created.

k, this thread has now made me restart Golden Sun... At the very most I hope DS gets remakes for the first 2 (all DS gets is remakes it seems...) like with FFIII and FFIV. That'd be the most awesome thing ever.
I hate how games like FFVII get milked for all their worth while games like Golden sun have seemingly been dropped ; ;
