So this guy Richard Heeks from the University of Manchester wrote some kind of master's thesis over gold farming. I've only skimmed it so far, but it has some interesting things to say, such as:

There was a point when Chinese workers had a quota of 1 million gil per shift.

There was a Chinese student who made $1.3 million while studying (or not) in Japan. Old news, but I never heard about that one.

The only reason it increases is because the game takes in more money than it gives out. But 1.3 million? What the hell would you be studying for if you could make that kinda cash playing a god damned video game?
