im not into the whole calculations, because im lazy, but i read what i can, understand as much as i can, and i agree with main handing perdu.

as for an offhand, my only options for now are ifrits, and soon to be beastslayer. but as for wingsword for cannonball, with the ability to cap 999 def as a hidden effect from the spell, id rather go for STR.

being as busy as i am, doubt ill be able to get all the sword options, even more so hofund, but ill work on it. but for now, ill end up with perdu/beast.

Um, you do understand that VIT is a modifier as well as STR, right? Having 1 less STR than Ifrit's Blade but getting 2 more VIT on NQ or SAME STR AND 3 VIT on HQ would be much better... Unless you're talking about using Vulcan's + Axe Grip... see below for my opinion on that..

As for how you can cap 999DEF on every cannonball is beyond me.. it's not like you can realistically have BRDs rotate SV Minne on you for an entire fight.. I'd like to know how you capped your DEF without using shield as well.. In my gear set, with Taco, pro4/5, and Minne (W/ out SV) I'm in the 880's for DEF.

And as for the italics... idk. Wait.. you think the spell caps our DEF? Wut blink.gif ? Or you're just saying how it's a DEF=ATK mod...?

Please... I'd like the answers.

Right now I use Beast Slayer/Ifrit's Blade, but I'm somewhat close to getting my perdu hanger. Once I get that I'll go Perdu/Beast.

I gave some thought to using a Greed Scimitar as my offhand instead of my Ifrit's; it's the worse DoT rating that deters me. Does anyone else have any thoughts on this?

I'd have to say no.. as the whole reason for using Ifrit's Blade is to keep up some good DoT with ATK+ and also help the spells you cast with the STR+3.

Greed is mostly for spamming the big 3... which requires Ballad x2 + Refresh (+Evoker's Roll sometimes). It also takes away STR.. which would hurt any spell your casting that isn't mod-ed by DEX. 4STR=2ATK.. so Ifrit's really has +12ATK over this. I also think it's too slow.

Other than the crazy refresh situation.. stick with Ifrit's.

But that refresh situation is so fun when it comes into practice. laugh.gif <3 getting stuck with those pt's in dynamis!

Well until I get WtB completed, a shotel will never drop for me, so thats out the pic, but now I use Frag / Hofud , I prefer the mods on hofud over straight dmg on perdu. It fits my playstyle over using perdu/ifrits or anything, unless a beast slayer is more beneficial, then that gets subbed. Even still have demon on hand for that off chance i see an Imp somewhere needin killin.

No offense Soi, but that doesn't make sense unless your play style is to play less efficiently. To be honest, if I had a Fragarach, Hofud's going on a mannequin unless I want town gear and 99% of the time I'll be subbing Perdu Hanger.

You said you'd prefer the mods on Hofud over straight Damage on perdu, but you're neglecting that as nice as Savage Blade is for soloing distortion, Disseverment, Hysteric Barrage, Frenetic Rip, all spells you are most likely using /nin, are multi-hit spells with no mind mod. Perdu's accuracy far outweighs the benefits of Hofud's mind for only Savage Blade.

Perdu is better than Fragarach. I use Perdu/Frag right now, and that is the highest damage setup you can have. Hofud is a stupid piece of shit that won't drop (0/6 and 3 fucking helms) but when it does I would use it for solo things for the most part, since sword dps doesn't matter as much then and the extras on Hofud are good.

I understand maining Perdu over Hofud, but Perdu over Frag?

Well.. Perdu and Frag have the same base D during WS.. so it really doesn't matter. And if you're only using 1 sword, then perdu is better b/c the ACC/ATK, unless you have to hold TP for a ([Long Time])

This is what I was responding to and although the difference is minimal, that is not the 'highest damage setup' one can technically have.

Well, Hofud certainly isn't all that, but I wouldn't call it a piece of shit.

The only reason I put it down so much is because superior alternatives are so easily attainable.

As a side note, wow, what's this like.. Five posts now, and no "gtfo"? ohmy.gif

It is highest DPS.

It is a piece of shit for not dropping '-' Been doing Einherjar since like.. start of December and haven't seen one. Shit is situational, in some situations it is the best, in others it isn't.

And Kia according to all these peeps the delay is enough to send them into epaleptic shock... though I don't see it.

They're just jealous. >|

Haste closes the gap on the small increase and makes it miniscule anyway. But to be fair I don't even have a clue what the stats are on these new swords, lol.

If you think delay doesn't matter, then you should just stop wearing haste gear then. I mean, if you don't want to get a good offhand weapon to lower your delay and give you more swings, then why the hell do you care about adding haste that does the same thing? You can't think delay doesn't matter and then think haste does. You really need to level a melee job like NIN or WAR or THF to understand how to actually do good damage, or at least understand damage formulas...

Fyi, if you're going to offhand a weapon with shit dot, you're better off not even using dual wield. Perdu/Ifrit means you swing more times but you swing with your horrible offhand half the time, lowering you're total damage and not to mention, you slow you're perdu down. Low dot, higher delay than your main hand and stats that do not overcome these bad qualities...basically, all of the don'ts for using dual wield.
