uh i mean at the risk of sounding crazy but wont this sword go well with -dmg builds
i mean one can dream right
this swrod -10 dmg
odins body -5 dmg
odines hat -5 dmg
d ring -10dmg
agies -25 mag
i mena it might just be late but dont that mean with 5 slots - 30% phy(toss phalax 2 in ther and maybe extra -10% phy which would almost bfing it to 40%) and -55% magic
ya yaya i know getting some of whats on that list is a far cry from ever pld but i think this sword is worth it for ppl who have 2 of the five itmes on that list
+ it double attacks like a god damn joy toy with 10+ that has to help for dot and enmity +10 enmity on it hmmm
you know im just saying you know im saying just i mena look at it dont jsut say this is worthless or simple as hacular(sp)-1
idk ima try to get it

-% magic dmg taken caps at 50%.
I would assume physical dmg is the same, but since protect isn't physical dmg taken (whereas shell is for magic), it adds lolDEF. I would like to try it, but naturally /nin will always be better in my eyes for most fights. Nice for Dynamis though I guess.

Kaparu has a point when he says PLD is good as it is at tanking, and that Excalibur has an advantage; you'll be more than just a tank with it.
Unfortunately, there are times when good PLDs lose a considerable amount of hate, and Excalibur can't help them when that happens. +6 Enmity (considering you're not stupid and you use a Macuahuitl +1) can really make a difference at such times.
Hell, I'll say you can go from 'good' to 'extraordinary' at tanking with Burtgang. This sword is perfect at 100% of tanking situations. I can even see people effectively lolKiting with this (see physical damage taken -10% and the big Enmity increase, plus what Shields can offer), and I'm not even getting started at how ridiculously easy it'll be to tank with Burt equipped and how that's good for everyone.
As a PLD, I'd truly prefer to maximize my tanking potential than broadening my horizons by significantly speeding up a battle that, if you have a Relic in the first place, shouldn't take too long. So, Burtgang > Excalibur IMHO.
That's just my opinion, though. Excalibur's still one hell of a sword. D:

Why wouldn't it be good for anything /nin? The only thing I could think of adding to this sword is "enhances fast cast". And I can already hear bitching in the background if that were somehow added.
While I still respect excal and would LOVE to have one, this sword is WAY better. +10 enmity means 10% more generated hate. I could be masturbating in front of the mob, and it would be 10% more effective.
Now, 10% more generated enmity and, instead of the added effect on excal, which will cause 400-ish damage at full health (and is hateless), I think I'd rather generate 10% more enmity and let the Black Mage, Ranger, Spamurai, etc all do 10% more damage. Just me though.

From BG
PLD got a new WS that deals constantly high damage (750), this can be a big enmity boost if you are tanking with joytoy or justice.
Thoughts?

Constant high damage against what?
If we're talking about ~750 damage at 100% against HNMs, my dick's gonna hit the desk.
I promise.

Excalibur is awful. Arguing it as better, let alone a contender to burtgang is stupid. Kap, quit acting stupid.

Well, how does one argue with such impenetrable logic?
Oh, that's right, knowing what the fuck you're talking about.

I was referring the the physical dmg set not the sword. >.>; I guess I didn't word it clearly.
If I had a Burtgang I would use it whenever I could.

To be fair, we're comparing apples to oranges. And on top of that, oranges that haven't even been tasted.
Excal is probably one of the best swords available to paladins to cause damage. As you say in another thread, Kap, while the procs aren't as much as many would like them to be, given a Paladin will have at least 50% haste for shadows, you can expect at least 50% more procs per battle. Which makes this ideal for low-man and burn.
Burt, however, is going to be the way to go in real HNM scenerios. If you're kiting, you're not attacking. If you're concentrated on +haste, +enmity, +shield, +hp, +lolvit, +loldef, you're not going to be connecting your hits (or, connecting often enough to inflict a noticeable amount of damage). So why not wear Burt? It's like tri-wielding Mach+1's. Given that you can build up your hate faster and higher, you're not just allowing 1 person a higher hate threshhold when it comes to DD'ing, healing, or support - You're allowing 17 others. And who knows, this thing might even prove a decent damage utility in meripo's or low-end HNM with it's Aftermath effect.
The bloodlet effect and the phys damage down are nice added bonuses, something surely that will be welcome when shadows fall. But for the most part, 10% more hate in a single slot is too good to pass up.
Kap, I see that you have RDM in your job list. Since KI only allows 1 main job, I can only assume you also have PLD leveled, but RDM is your favorite, your baby. Nobody here is knocking Excal for RDM, trust me. It's a very good weapon. It just holds very little value when it boils down to tanking purposes.
EDIT @ Saxonian: Sorry about that. I saw a hate train a-comin on the Burt and I thought everyone was of the like-mind that Burt was useless to /NIN.
