Got the lance on saturday from floor 100, currently building up points (1.2k thus far not my disk sadly) I'm curious as to how this little gift from SE performs in terms of damage and if it has any use endgame

(DRG) "Drakesbane" [Fusion/Transfixion]
Spinning Slash > Drakesbane = Light
Drakesbane > Dancing Edge = Distortion
(DRG) "Drakesbane" - DONE
4 Hits, 1.0 fTP, STR_50% Modifier, can be critical. This rocks.
I havent seen many numbers/results but its our Skewer+1... (seems like our bread and butter now, but need more results).
BTW, I got this lance from a regular NM on the 15th floor. Set aside some time/tags to farm some NMs as your working your way up to 100.
Also, in the SAM forums some player didnt get the new WS after 5200+ pts... /wrist!!! Though someone did unlock WS after 1600pts and floor 60 (I think)? SO, I suggest you focus on floors than the points for now...

sorry Sotek but I havent seen squat in terms of numbers or effectiveness against certain mobs and it will probably take me a few more days to unlock it

I got it after 2250 points, and I'm on floor 55. It's pretty decent. I didn't get much of a chance to test it out, but it performs the same or better than penta from what I've seen. I've done some pretty high spike damage (2000+ at 300tp), but it hovers just around penta range on average.. or a little above. idk. Too soon for me to judge it. The plus is that it can do light, the minus is it follow the same chart as wheeling thrust..
I've been stacking as much str as I can without sacrificing too much acc. I'll post a screen of what I use atm for it later and some numbers.

if you would be so kind as to collect data against merit mobs, weak mobs, and HNM/guardian mobs that would be helpful. Parser would be ideal (^.^)v
Penta definitely owns VT (or weaker) mobs and I am suspecting that Drakesbane will show higher numbers (on avg) on the harder mobs.
Given my schedule, I dont think I'll be able to unlock/play with it until next month =/

I don't really merit often, but I got some shit from sea farming.
While farmng HQ organs by the monk ??? I got these numbers.
860, 539, 1108, 888, 819, 558 (3tp return), 394, 612, 621, 798, 813, 931, 480, 282
That was with meat mith and no brd with sam sub. Normal TP return was 20, some were after def boost.
Ix' Monk
384, 399, 929, 125, 299 (Normal mulit-hit never does well on shit like this anyway and a few were after def boost)
Random grah and pots I was doing about 700-1200, more toward 900.
This shit owns on weaker mobs. I was easily doing 700-1400 in the outside sea area with only meat mith, so I'm guessing it would be very effective on birds and mamools.
Gear is as follows.
Weapon- Valk. Fork
Grip- Pole grip
Ammo- Olibanum Sachet (2str)
Head- Hecatomb
Neck- Love torque
Ear- Brutal/Fowling
Body- Hecatomb
Hands- Hecatomb
Rings- Mars's/Rajas
Back- Forager's
Waist- Warwolf
Legs- Ares's
Feet- Hecatomb
I could have tested on Cerb this morning, but I was ZZ when it popped. I'll get some more later. I don't have a parser or the patience to test this the way you want me to >.>

Just asking.. wouldn't assault/fowling be better than brutal/fowling? (still Lv71 ^^; )

I just keep it in there for the double attack, with valk fork and ares legs it stacks nicely.

i was actually waiting for a drakesbane topic to happen. There really hasn't been anything about it over around here.. and it deserves its own topic because it is completely divisible from Ryunohige...
as for me.. I haven't gotten down to using the WS on EXP mobs so I can't really tell, but on average it does more than Penta for me while I fool around in Campaign.. Especially on Fortifications, but those are very low level after all. Its just lovely when it crits.. If they don't crit tho, I'm of the impression Penta would do better..

Yea, when it doesn't crit you can tell lol
I opened with a 300tp drakesbane on odin for about 587.
meat mith + 1 minuet

Seconded.
With that said, I need to start climbing more floors. I'm at Floor25 with about 5000 ws points and no Drakesbane yet.

Currently floor 25 and no points yet. I'll probably wait until 80+ to start with points, but most likely will only do the minimum 250 points and wait for us to hit the top. I have better things to do with my time than grind extra WS points I won't need eventually. We're doing 3 runs twice a week so I should have the WS for testing in about 2.5-3 weeks.

From what i've seen meriting with drgs this ws is fuckin nice. Sure it doesn't always do that much more over a penta but penta is powerful
on bird camps. So its basically skewer+1 that actually has its full str50 mod, does a bit more then penta on avg AND this bastard does light!
sure it follows wheeling thrust on the renkei chart but you have to remember this is a spam type of ws that can do light when you really wanna
pump out dmg. I was hoping it would follow the frag side so drgs could spam light with sams or do darkness. Doesn't matter its still a potent skill
i doubt it would do well end game, SE put a ban on drg there

I got my lance yesterday, did about 150 solo ws points last night while farming Elder Goobbue. Ill probably just wait to climb again as well, tho my static has no intention of starting a new climb anytime soon. At 70 atm and probably going to be farming for a while :/

This was an interesting gear setup for Drakesbane -

If you were Elvaan, you would expect to have -
I'm not and probably never will be a huge calculation guru but having 50 more DEX than the mob's AGI grants 25% Critical hit rate (Note, this is taken from a someone on BG, not myself). Some of those pieces of equipment are very hard to come by (Valkyrie's Fork, Zahak's Mail, Toreador's Ring but can be replaced with a Sniper's +1, Ares's gear), but any player can likely have this equipment than have a relic.
I'm probably gonna start hunting for some of this gear myself (probably work on cursed -1 if I can get the gil or lucky synths).

Critical Hit rate caps at 20% from DEX/AGI, having 4/4 merits will make it cap at 24%, add any other % from gear/weapons. Capping critical hit rate on Birds takes a total DEX of 119, probably best to aim for this along with Acc, then STR.

Tell me how you calculate a crit rate given a particular mob, starr.

I was just playing off the STR mod, I guess playing off DEX would be smart as well. Lame, more testing I guess.

Well... first you have to find the AGI value which is done by finding the mobs level (easy) and JOB/JOB (all mobs have a main and sub job that is the same level as it's main, NMs do also but then get extras anyway so it's hard to find this), somewhere on Studio Gobli, or Nagamaki may have it, there is a list of AGI for level and Job. You cap crit rate at 50 DEX over a mobs AGI, I can't be bothered to see if there's an actual formula for 5% (minimum cap) to 20% but I know that you get increasing returns from Mob AGI+0 to Mob AGI+50 for every one DEX you add.
