Zha'Go's Barbut
DEF:23 Ranged Accuracy+8 Ranged Attack+8 Enmity-5 Enhances "Snapshot" effect
[head]
Basically, since the update, there has been a new item that every Ranger should probably get for TP gain. Here's a small guide of how to attain this nice little turtle hat item (I have not myself gotten this yet because we died at the BCNM not knowing what to expect, but farmed enough pop sets to know how it works)
Beadeux [S]
1) Blifnix Oilycheeks (goblin NM) - Most likely the first NM of 8 you will need to kill. Easy goblin that will drop bombs after doing bomb toss. each bomb can do around 50-200 damage and can quickly take down the tank if not prepared. Once the NM drops the bomb we either kill the bombs or move do a different spot after bomb toss as to not get killed. Killable with a party of 6.
2) Ra'Dha Scarscute (turtle NM) - Relatively easy turtle that spams headbutt. It can occasionally ore lob. If playing as a ranger it's best to stay in front of the turtle at about a 45 degree angle as to not be affected by Diamond skin (only frontal attacks can hurt a turtle in Diamond skin).
3) Di'Zho Spongeshell (turtle NM) - DRK. It will switch between melee mode and magic mode. When in magic mode, magic spells will cure it while melee attacks damage it. When damage mode, weapon damages heal it and magic hurts it. Take this fight slowly. Last thing you want is to Slug Shot and cure the turtle for 1200+. Again, since you're fighting a turtle, it can ore lob you. Stand 45 degrees at the front so Diamond skin and ore lob doesn't hit you.
4) Ga'Lhu Nevermolt (turtle NM) - PLD. Relatively straight forward, it will attack then turn around where melee damage receive high reprisal damage (not that a ranger cares about this). Like all turtles, fight at a 45 degree angle to not be affected by ore lob and shell charge. Shell charge is a direct line TP move that can one-shot you.
5) Va'Gho Bloodbasked (turtle NM) - RDM. Easy fight. It will chainspell and like all turtles, fight at the front at a 45 degree angle.
6) Mu'Nhi Thimbletail (turtle NM) - THF. One of the more difficult fights, this turtle will consistently spam ore toss (will not melee attack). A paladin/nin can shadow tank the ore toss. It is highly suggested you kill the tubes it summons. You need to have a quick melee to kill these. If you can consistently kill the tubes, this will be a straightforward fight. If you let the tubes paralyze, bind, silence you and your party, the difficulty can compound. Like all turtles, face the front to do damage in case diamond shell goes up. It can ore lob so fight at an angle.
7) Observant Zekka (Imp) - Easiest of the NMs. The imp will retaliate depending on the action taken. If you cast stone at it, it will retaliate with quake. If you weaponskill, it will retaliate with frenetic rip. But it's an imp... so really nothing to worry about here.
8) Bres (Fomor) - Monk. This monk will charge up a dragon kick which can be absorbed by shadows. Should the dragon kick hit you, it can be fatal depending on the length of the charge. (he will charge up a dragon kick and if it takes a few seconds to fire, it can kill you easily if it hits you). At some point it will hundred fist with kicks (hundred kicks!). Still a relatively easy fight if you know what to expect. Stunning helps a little but most players can easily outrun the dragon kicks. A paladin with sentinel can tank the hundred kicks with ease.
I don't know the exact repop time of the Stronghold NMs but it's over 4 hours I think.
After acquiring all 8 items, turn them in to Nevan (sp?) in Bastok Market [S]. He will give you a key item (and increase your stronghold standing) after turning in the items. You should have 8 temporary key items which are necessary to enter the BCNM.
Head back to the BCNM (by qulun [sp?] dome) where the cross intersection is and head south I think. You'll eventually encounter a door that will prompt you if you want to proceed with the BCNM. The BCNM name is "The burried god"
The Burried God
Once in the BCNM you have 30 mins to kill 5 turtles.
2 WHM turtles
2 BLM turtles
1 NM (with a permanent shell aura on his back).
Suggested alliance is 10 people.
It's suggested you kill the BLM turtles first as quickly as possible. A SCH is very helpful in doing AE gravity to kite the turtles around while you commence to zerg the 2 blms. Kill the BLMs, kill the WHMs, and you still have a tough fight ahead of you.
The NM turtle does a AE move + petrify which absolutely destroyed us since we weren't prepared for it. It is capable of ore lobbing as well so take care. Take care of your position to keep your support away from the AE petrify move. It is suggested you have WHMs for stona and a very competent paladin. Kill this NM for your prize and good luck. I will be attempting this again in the near future as I've completed a pop set.
Hope that helps, it's a nifty little piece of ranger gear for TP gain.
Regards,
Megido.

All 8 NMs can be done with a party of 6. The BC however, I'm not so sure. The main NM (the one with a Shell aura around his shell) is capable of Shell charge (linear attack that can one shot people in a line), ore lob (cone damage and very strong), and AE knockback + petrify (at least 800+ damage), is a very formidable foe.
All 8 NMs can also drop on occasion an item though only one of them is worth anything.
It's definitely not easy, but the hat is quite good for Ranger. And you get to look like a turtle! How cool is that.

Just beat the BCNM twice.
I'll add that farming the NMs is very fun, and most ppl don't farm them much so they're always up.
I was told they respawn every 4hrs. BRING SNEAK (Mono) Used religiously.
The BCNM was messy for us, i attempted to hold NM (on PLD/NIN) and shortly died after
haste being overwritten with slow (Ni @ 51 sec) and he hits 200 + Additional. Skull Smash? Did 1K+,
and Ore Lob did 300-500 when i had 1 or 2 shadows up.
I was never Petrified, but alot of our members were.
We had about 15 ppl (PLD/NIN x2, BLMx2, DRK(Apoc), BRD(Gjallhorn), RNG, WHMx2, RDMx2, SAMx3, WAR) Set up was something like that.
1 PLD kited 4 regulars on initial aggro, and i held NM. RNG pulled mobs near Entrance to fight.
(SMN Predator Claws took about 1/3 HP off 1) They don't have much HP and easy to kill quick.
Unfortunately our BRD was not in tank party (random JP group joined us), so our NIN kited NM after i quickly died from holding with slow on -.- (he attacks pretty quick btw).
Once 4 are dead, everyone was on main NM
both us PLDs died again near 5-10% from Ore Lob & Skull Smash.
Quickly finished him off both times.
Needless to say... organize your parties well.

Sorry we were going to attempt tonight (we have about 3 pop sets now) but I have plans so it will have to wait. As the previous poster said, the BCNM isn't easy. We initially attempted it with 8 people and we didn't survive because we didn't know what to expect. This time around we'll have a better party setup.
Once we get the item I can do some testing or perhaps the previous poster can take some time to test.
Doing all of the 8 NMs for the BCNM is pretty fun. It took about 2 hours to do all 8 (since they're almost always up) with a good party of 6.
I forgot to mention the BCNM NM has an additional effect permanent slow that cannot be removed.
It almost seems like this is intended to be a ranger zerg fight. I can see a party of 5 rangers + support and 1 tank party being able to beat this quite easily.

Yeah good luck finding people who want to do that...
I mean maybe to kill one or two and the BCNM, but there is like a book worth of steps to get this thing.
Edit: Tezz you also have some of the best people on the server helping you there. Pretty much the only one missing is Fearsight.

I've done all with only 3 people and different set ups. All you need is a skilled tank be it RDM/NIN PLD/NIN or a THF. a RDM or BRD to support, someone whos not a dumbass. Then a BLM or BLU for damage and back up cures and buffs like Diamond hide or stuff like that.
Blifnix Oilycheeks- A simple battle dance from a BLU will kill all the mines. Support can stand outside of the blast range and focus on the tank.
Ra'Dha Scarscute - a PLD/NIN BRD and RDM can do this with no problems.
Di'Zho Spongeshell - A PLD that has Atonement is your best freind for this. I had a freind doing close to 1100 on him. PLD RDM BLM seems to be the best set however I have done it as RDM PLD BLU. Very easy fight, the only thing I hate about this guy is he uses both the AoE gravity and ore lob.
Ga'Lhu Nevermolt - I seen a THF and RDM duo this one.
Va'Gho Bloodbasked - Something I noticed about this NM, more often then not he will recast his Protect and Shell before casting offensive spells. Dispel spam has made this fight much easier for me.
Mu'Nhi Thimbletail - The best way I have found to kill him is have 2 BLM/NINs and a RDM/WHM. The BLMs stand apart from each other the RDM directly behind them, keeping them buffed and watching for enfeeble tubes. Over all as long as the 2 BLMs work together taking turns holding hate keeping up shadows and resting it is a easy fight. If you use this tho everyone should be ready to nuke hard at 25% - as he will summon tubes almost every 30 seconds. (when I say the RDM is looking out for enfeebling tubes, I mean they are seeing which tube has been summoned and remove the effect, NOT kill the tubes.)
Observant Zekka - Very easy, I'd like to see if a pair of SMNs could duo it. The Imp does not reflect SMN Blood Pacts.
Bres - I have a feeling there's a chance a skilled RDM and BRD or THF and RDM could duo him. Myself and a PLD basically duo'd him for 10 mins before our BLM found us and started to stun DK and stuff. I suggest letting dragon kick go through. He will save the TP he has gained through the stun and if you miss the DK stun again later on and your tank gets hit for full force hes done. Its better to let the thing dump its TP then store it up.
0/1 on The barbut myself(When it was my set), I've done the fight 3 times, 1 wipe, 2 wins no barbuts. I have another set of key items ready, I'm waiting for 2 others to finish their sets before we go try again.
From the way it sounds the drop rate is 50% between the helm and an earring.
My big suggestion to people is to bring some forms a ranged damage or BLM damage. The less people getting hit by that AoE the better.
Also a big note about the AoE, it is a hate reset. When you see the /say message just before he uses it anyone that would be in position to take hate, say a mage outside of the AoE range, or a RNG should stop until a 2nd tank or the main tank is stona'd. I've seen people wipe because of not the AoE its self but because the tanks were not the first ones pertra'd and melee ended up taking hate, mages dumped MP to cure them and hate went every where.
The Area itself is really nice. We had a BLU with W legs kite the WAR around a small fence like thing inside for a number of minutes. I suggest kiting the WAR while you kill off the WHMs and BLMs. As for how anyone wants to go about holding the 4 other turtles and the WAR is up to you but the best thing I have found is simply take a PLD put them on the WAR and kiting him and a RDM with diaga on the adds while a 2nd PLD or WAR pulls them off to be killed. Anyone that is kiting should have movement +.
(I edited in some more suggestions and information.)

I just got my Barbut and I'm wondering if anyone can confirm the -delay from snapshot with me. It seems to be about a 5% delay reduction to me, but that's just from rough stopwatch estimates testing w/Barbut against no/Barbut on SAM. I looked all over, but I can't find a straight number value, all pages just say "enhance snapshot".

It could just be a 1% snapshot, which is not unlikly. Either way, its a nice addition to the helm.

Oh and the set up that I used was a 12 man group.
PLDx2 RNGx3 SCH WHM RDMx2 SAM BRD BLM
We used one PLD as a super tank while the other one kited and just hammered down the adds. PLD 1 agroo'd all 5 mobs and the 2nd PLD pulled the WAR and kited.
We some what zerged the 4 Adds BLMs > WHMs. After that it was just a matter of steady damage. Very smooth fight using RNGs as the major source of damage. Less melee to stona since they can be outside of AoE range.
