Palin is kind of hot, Biden I can't say as I'm not gay.

Palin's hot in that bat-shit crazy turns me on. Also, there's the soccer mom thing (MILF FTW!!!). Biden... I'm just not turned on by comb overs. But Biden seems like he'd respect you more. Plus there's the job security thing as he's not bat-shit crazy. Palin seems like she'd sleep around, as if, yeah, you're there, but in the end she really doesn't need you.

I thought she did pretty well, but I thought Biden did much better.

One of her main flaws is that she did not answer a number of the questions. She did not hurt the ticket, but she didn't help it either. Considering that McCain is behind in the polls, that doesn't do much for McCain in terms of gaining ground for the election.

I was actually cheering for her. I wanted her to do well. I didn't want her to do well because I want McCain to win, but rather because it legitimizes Obama's experience. She looks ok, but he looks better. She might be qualified, but he is more qualified. It erodes the argument of experience made by McCain toward Obama.

Also, I would definitely hit. And that is important in an election.

I fail to see how this is the case, Joe Biden doesn't make John McCain look "less old". she'll never be a Dick Cheney. She doesn't have the political savvy to exert the kind of influence he did. If anything she'll be a centerpiece in a McCain cabinet. Look pretty but ultimately do nothing beyond giving fundies some sort of false hope that their interests are going to be represented by someone with less political clout than Ron Paul. There won't be any tie breaking votes in the senate. I'm also not anywhere near convinced and probably never will be that electing the least qualified people will somehow equal reform. Especially when that person has proven the power of their governance by being from a district with a 10% sales tax and a higher murder rate than Baghdad.

Anyway, focus on the debate.

The word maverick got bandied about so much without actual quantifiers, it was like watching top gun, and they think just cause she says "oh just a couple of mavericks" that we are gonna think "wow what a bunch of mavericks". Ughh I hate being patronized with marketing slogans, one's as bad as the other with the changey change hopey hope.
now the word hope makes me feel an unwavering sense of despair that the rest of the nation will be railroaded into being as shitty as Chicago, while maverick makes me want to punch babies. whilst before it simply conjured images of latent homosexuality and navy flight uniforms.

Oh Tom, we really know what you want to do with that fist. And now that I've typed that I feel like I've lost that lovin' feeling.

What? You didn't know? He's a maverick in that he can change his own adult sized diaper.

Tom Cruise? Gay? WHAT!? NOWAI!!!1!

But it could be worse - there could be a candidate who's a hopeful maverick of change?

PALIN: I'm still on the tax thing because I want to correct you on that again. And I want to let you know what I did as a mayor and as a governor. And I may not answer the questions that either the moderator or you want to hear, but I'm going to talk straight to the American people and let them know my track record also.

She did exactly what she said she would too, and didn't answer any questions. She lost the debate the moment she said that.

I tuned in to watch the woman fail epically. She failed to amuse me, yet didn't say anything of substance either. Even when she messed up, Biden didn't call her out on it. The debate was really boring and meaningless because of this.

There was one especially funny moment, though. At some point Palin called General McKiernan "McLellan."
Who knows who she was thinking of ... Scott McClellan? George B. McClellan?

Maybe because I was younger, maybe because I never really cared...But Ive NEVER seen people debate over the VP like this before.

There is more debating about whos going to be the VP then the president. Or more of they dont want Palin to be the VP. Thats the #1 argument Ive heard so far about why people dont want McCain. "Blahblahblah I dont want Mcain because blahblahblah, also Palin is a fucking bitch.".

People are more concerned over the VP than the P because the P are both relatively competent individuals, even if each has some rather glaring flaws. The VPs, however, are stunning, disconcerting choices from both sides of the fence that make me worry.

Well you can't forget that with McCain being over 70 years old and having a 300 page medical record, Palin could very well end up as President.

Cruz, you do realize that Chicago is one of the crown jewels of the US. It is one of the greatest cities in the world, rated as an alpha city, has one of the largest economies in the US, is a center for trade and commerce, a learning and research center of the United States, and it just an all-around beautiful city. I have been all over the United States, and Chicago is one of the most amazing cities in this country.

I would be the first to admit bias since I live here, but I am going to dismiss that and tell you living in one of the most diverse areas in the US has made me a better person; I owe a lot to this city. I don't want to assume that you haven't been here, but I am thinking that you haven't. Had you been here, you would realize how wrong your comments about Chicago are.

There are many reasons that we have a high crime rate. At the top of that list would be that we have a very large population. Being the 3rd largest city in the US you are going have a problem with crime, but the statistic that you mentioned is a misrepresentation of our crime problem, our crime here has been on the decline since the mid 90s. Many of the problems that we had with crime were gang related, much like New York and LA, but our police departments have worked hard to take care of those problems, and in cooperation with our government we were able to bring the crime rate down significantly.

I really could go on and on about how wrong you are about Chicago. I would be happy to have you visit to show you though. You mentioned that Obama would turn the United States into a place like Chicago. I will tell you that if Obama managed to turn every place in the US to Chicago, we would all be better off for it, and unless you have been here and experienced what it is like to live here and understand more about this city, you won't understand how wrong you are.

By the way, next time we get into an argument about guns, remember this statistic: in 2005 75% of the murders committed in Chicago involved a firearm. It is very hard to make an argument about crime when you don't support gun control. It is part of the reason why we city folk are always bitching about gun control, and in part why people outside of cities don't get it. There is a reason that the major population centers of the US are almost all democratic...

There is one thing we do agree on though (in this thread anyway), I can't stand these fucking catch phrases that politicians use and that the media uses. Maverick. (Insert descriptive noun) Card. Put country first. Change we can believe in. I really hate these though... Heartland. Middle America. Speaking to the American People. I could go on and on, but that shit is annoying. I hate being talked to like a fucking four year-old.

PS. Loved the Maverick post there, Villainous.

The problem is cultural. Crush thug culture, educate kids so they don't fetishize firearms and the problem disappears. I don't completely reject all gun control. It's a compromise though. You want universal registration, I want universal concealed carry, etc, etc.

Legalized Abortion, and education reform will do more for crime control than gun control ever has or will.

Derail over.

Nice axiom. Got any critical thought to back it up or are you just spouting it because you were taught to?

Just do as Heinrich says, Germans who wish to use firearms should join the SS or the SA - ordinary citizens don't need guns, as their having guns doesn't serve the State.
