QUOTE (Path)
You said "living up to their full potential." That's a happy little trite and meaningless expression, but let's take it literally.

Yes, let's. Afterwards, we can high five ourselves for using definitions we've manufactured for our own convenience, as is our right when our-
QUOTE (Pathwriter)
...definition of "a life" is universal and unassailable

QUOTE (Path)
Hanging around on a forum trying vainly to disassemble other people's thoughts without introducing any of your own is a long way from "full potential."

Asking that you justify an assumption is not trying to disassemble your thoughts. Since you have yet to do so, would it be safe to assume you have put little actual thought into what you're talking about? I mean, don't get me wrong, I love repeatedly asking a parrot why they think what they say*, it's just that I'm kind of getting bored with the repeated "You're not giving your thoughts" mantra you repeat after every post I make that contains my thoughts.

I suppose maybe if I made the request really, really simple...

QUOTE (Pathwriter)
I'm saying that they fundamentally installed a guilt trip into our cultural identity that says sex is bad.

Prove it.

*Editor's Note: The passage 'why they think what they say' would be masterfully seized upon by Pathwriter to show, in fact, that I really am trying to disassemble all of your thoughts, clearly vindicating him of ever having to address the original point. Thus, I am putting in a preemptive "No, I'm not, answer the damn question please" footer. I'm so brilliant it hurts. Hurts.

"Full potential" implies that you have no time for leisurely debates about whether cumshots in zero gravity are important because you're too busy running marathons or curing disease or impregnating the entire population of San Diego.

Hahahaha, sadly this is the best no-lifer card pull I have ever seen.

And about this issue, I guess it doesn't really matter, but I wonder sometimes about the fact that my country is more outraged by the sexual content in a movie than they will get about a movie that has gory, explicit violence. I feel that religious people are probably to blame for that, specifically Christians, though I am positive I'll get crucified for this statement. In any rate, it sucks that you guys don't get space porn. Maybe they'll do it in Claymation for you instead.

Christianity is the one that helped bring about that guilt in the US, but it's present throughout a good chunk of the world. Especially regions that bow to the one god theory.

Remember: Slaughter in the name of your god is fine. Hell sex is fine, too. But only to the extent that it makes more minions for your god. As soon as it becomes sex for the sake of sex or *GASP!* pleasure, you're going to burn.

Disprove it. I refuse to delve any further into justifying my argument because as soon as I managed to compile the perfect 20-page essay that would vindicate my opinion, you'd scurry off into a corner and hope that I would forget the argument. That's far more effort than I'm willing to put in for you. I know better than that. So make it worth my while to prove myself. I'm beyond tired of being the only person to inject real substance into an argument.

I certainly feel pain whenever I'm around your "brilliance."

And, yes, for the record, I have quite a lot of references I can cite to back up my point. Unlike you, I'm not a peddler in hot air.

Disprove that you are a peddler in hot air (hopefully by way of a 20 page perfect essay justifying your earlier comment). I'm too lazy to do it for you, and if I did, you'd just say, "Nuh-uh" and walk away.

After all, I'd be a fool to assume that sexual guilt didn't derive from internalized social mores, but why you think that religion bears the brunt of the responsibility for that in our increasingly Godless society, and also why you assume that it must logically be the reason us unenlightened mouthbreathers cry "Fair!" about denying porn in space is beyond me. Mostly I'm just trying to figure the latter out, considering that I already think religion can explain part of a person's sexual guilt, though the degree with which it affects a person is a matter beyond religion and society alone--it's this that ultimately makes your initial comments annoyingly trite in my mind.

It's nice being right. Is it nice being predictable?

Since you almost posed something that looked like a question, though, I offered a broader answer. I initially used the word religion but expanded it when you complained. Then you started off on your "Nothing is true and I have no insight to offer" tantrum. Hence why I've stopped contributing substance, because I don't like screaming into voids.

Yes. Metamucil is the ambrosia of the gods.

QUOTE (Path)

Your broader answer just added a middleman (society) to your original statement that religion installed sexual guilt. You made vague, though agreeable, suggestions about the effect of religion/people-who-tell-us-what-to-do on society while ignoring the quagmire that the reverse is also true, which negates the causality in your original point. You continued to sidestep my original question, and still do so. After some thought I realized I partially agreed with you, in that sexual guilt is triggered in tenets enforced by society, or in my mind by even more closely clustered social groups (though you've no guarantee that individuals will assimilate such ideals...another assumption), but the only thing that would change of my original question would be, "How can you be sure that the cause of guilt is [insert vehicle of cultural hegemony of your choosing here], rather than internal or other external forces?"

Your point could've been that someone raised in Church would be more likely to take offense to this because of the mores enforced by their immediate social group and I wouldn't have much trouble believing that. Rather than that, you suggested that the Church infected all of Western society with a guilt trip. How do you place the blame on the church for this, rather than an individual's choices or--if you're more the tabula rasa type--rather than more closely knit social structures that merely adopted Church doctrine because it was agreeable to them, with these social structures having a far greater effect on an individual's psyche than mouldering religious dogma?

Hi. I'm a troll. I think. Never was good at the internets games.
