The full story is here.
I'll provide the Cliff's Notes for this, which will hopefully take away from the energy it would take to berate those of you who won't bother to click the link.
The protagonist in today's tale is a fourteen year old girl whose parents limited her water intake to that of a half a Dixie cup per day, and her food intake to mere toast. I don't know if it was one slice or two, but I'm guessing it was likely one. She was allowed to shower, but only once every few weeks under strict supervision, to ensure she couldn't quench on the sly. Bathroom trips were not much different. This went on for a number of years, causing her to appear as if she were only eight or nine years old. She weighed forty-eight pounds when discovered by the police. Of course, it isn't as if there aren't worse instances of abuse in the nation or worldwide, but the incensing development is the punitive action taken on the parents.
Her parents, Jon Pomeroy and Rebecca Long, only face up to a mere forty-eight months in prison if convicted. How the fuck did they decide that, did they just tack on a month for each pound the girl weighed? Did I say "punitive" earlier? I meant puny. You know, like the condition of their daughter. For some reason though, both dogs were perfectly healthy. The parents both had health insurance, and likely dental too. That didn't seem to stop the little girl's teeth from chipping, breaking, coming loose or falling out of her mouth altogether like the opening scene of Cliffhanger. Her brother did not fare so well either; he was kept in the same bedroom as her, which was barricaded by a large dresser. According to this article, however, it seems the girl suffered the brunt of the abuse. Suffice to say, she and her brother are in a foster home now, and while their situation has improved, her scumbag parents will likely suffer little to no reprisal.
It doesn't have to be Halloween for your kid to look like a skeleton or Jack o' Lantern.

There are no proper words to describe the outrage and horror associated with this sort of behavior. Murdering their children would have been less horrifying.

First degree criminal mistreatment is a class B felony in Washington. There are varying penalties within class B itself, and this case qualifies it as one of the "lesser" charges. Class B felonies carry a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison...only First Degree Criminal Mistreatment has a maximum penalty of 41 months. What's even more bass-ackwards about Washington's penal code is that this is the same maximum penalty for Hit And Run - Death. (Granted, most prosecutors worth their own hide would also charge the latter perpetrator with 2nd degree homicide, or at least manslaughter.)
Fuck these parents in their spines with acid-drenched demon dicks. The state of Washington should make an example of them, and charge them for first degree mistreatment for every month they did this to the girl. 41 month penalty times 60 would be appropriate. The letter of the law never dictates a concrete time period in which the crime must be committed for it to be considered first degree...and I'd say they withheld nourishment enough from the girl in one month alone to classify them for lubeless colon-cleaning by Big Bubba for the rest of their lives.

It reminds me of "Sloth" in the movie Se7en. I'm not a religious man, but I hope there is a hell for people like this.

Ass rape in prison via shiv is too good for these worthless abominations.

Ugh, completely revolting. The most disgusting part is that imo, this should be considered attempted murder, she would have eventually died that way. They should be prosecuted for that, not child abuse.

Ass rape and shanking might be too good for them; however, I'd still very much like them to experience it anyway. If we license everything else in america away, why don't we do the same for children? You require some form of a class to operate a motor vehicle, handle a firearm or get married, yet, in order to produce a screaming sad genetic hybrid of you and your stupid partner, it requires a 6-pack and a romantic movie. Granted, I'm opening this up to the obvious fucking of Federal vs Personal vs Communism vs whatever which way you want to take the notion. I'm still fond of the idea of a 2-day course that tells you important things like, oh say, feed your child.

I don't think a 2 day course would suffice considering they seem like they knew all the implements but wholeheartly decided that it would've been much more [interesting?] to starve them.
I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm anally fixated myself, but would ass raping in anyway fix or help the problem considering the damage is already done? (just a question posed, I think the situation is a horrible one) instead of focusing on the punishments of the parents, I'm just glad this and the Fritzl cases are bringng awareness to child abuse which is obviously still rampent in modern democratic societies.
Oh, and I find the title quite interesting Seigrith, then I find your last words even more so.

All the more reason 90% of Americans need to be sterilized.

You think only Americans do this kind of shit, Kleiner? You are sadly mistaken. Wouldn't it be nice to think we're the most depraved, awful country in the world but, frankly, we don't even come close to what is done in many places on the planet.

People like you are the reason for the axiom "Youth is wasted on the young". There are far too many factors working against you for you to form any sort of credible opinion regarding this current events situation, and your assessment on the sterilization of nine-tenths of the population is horrendously faulty, because I'll bet anything you likely think you'll fit in that ten percent margin.

I'll bet against that, Seigrith, but I have additional information.

Well. .

But the comment about sterilization was pretty stupid.

Kleiner
So, you're wagering that Kleiner believes he should be sterilized along with ninety percent of the populace. I'm a bit interested to know of this additional information; I'm honestly trying not to base his surmising on the fact that his profile denotes him as either living in Texas, being from Texas or both. It has been my experience with pretty much everyone I've ever met from Texas that the overall attitude of any Texan (or at least any one I've ever met) is often something along the lines of "I'm the best and y'all fuckin' suck!"

I actually agree with the idea that people should have to be licensed to be parents... but that's a difficult field to police considering all it takes is one broken condom to make you a parent, and most will agree that's pretty tough to undo.
Then again, I am also pro-choice, and allergic to latex.
(in before someone latches to that statement)

Seriously, having the government in charge of who can and can't have kids? Refer to above argument about how people who say these sorts of things are usually of the opinion that they're going to be one of the chosen ones. All that's going to happen in reality is the creation of "Black market children" without social security numbers or valid proof of citizenship born on kitchen floors in backwoods shacks at great health risks to both the mother and the child because the government has outlawed it. Just like abortion. It's really impossible to know how many (mostly female) Chinese children have been outright murdered because of governmental legislation involving who can and can't have them. I honestly don't see how anyone can claim to be pro-abortion under the idea that women own their bodies (The Camille Paglia kind of feminism, not the Andrea Dworkin kind) and support an idea like that.
Here's a good idea though how about we fix our fucked up, broken, abject failure of a public education system instead. We can start by outlawing teacher's unions and attaching public education funds to students instead of schools. Less ignorant people means less children raised by ignorant people.
