Beat Promyvion yesterday! (sometimes rare set ups work!)

I looked around and saw no other recent Promy thread so I thought I'd make my own to share my joy in finally beating all 3 Promyvion zones yesterday! I decided to set off and do Dem but a couple LS mates and I really wanted all three and after the success of the first run, decided to keep going. Set up varied for all 3, but essentially was crap every time (got worse as we went along):

Promy - Dem :

rdm/whm
whm/blm
war/nin
war/mnk
nin/war
blu/nin

This one was the easiest.

Promy - Holla

rdm/whm
whm/blm
war/nin
war/mnk
nin/war
rng/nin

This one was not that hard, despite reports I'd heard. The hardest part was finding out our LS mate had fallen asleep at the keyboard, taking the time to replace him, only to have him wake up and do the run with us.

Promy - Mea

rdm/whm
whm/blm
war/mnk
war/nin
drk/war
rng/nin

This one was the hardest, not sure if it was due to the party set up, or the fact that the whm rushed the fight when only half of us were in the room (I'm gonna go with that one) but we wiped and had to start over. Second time going up was slow, but we were all tired and eventually we made it. It was the longest boss fight, and the one we used the most animas for.

LS mate fell asleep again and didn't wake up this time so we were short one war/nin, and lost the nin/war altogether as he was warped to Lufaise Meadows after the second run. Had a different whm everytime. Avergae animas used were 6 or so total. I assume that with a better set up, people might have had to use less. Food was definitely used.

S'about it. Got warped to Lufaise Meadows afterwards, got lost as hell and died, used my Reraise leftover from Promy - Mea, and promptly died again. Lost most of the exp I made in Promys, but that's life. Lufaise Meadows is beautiful and if I ever find my way I'd loooove to see the Tavzanian Stronghold, haha. Now, onto Chapter 2. ъ(`ー゜)

Congratulations!

Lufaise is one of my top few favorite zones in the game.

If I recall correctly, you can take the portal thingie on the beach of Valkurm Dunes to reach Lufaise. Then you pretty much follow a westerly direction to get to the other end of the zone and hit Tavnazia. Use an online map and beware aggro (didn't look at your level, but the zone's not that high for the most part).

I personally dislike Tavnazia as a zone 'cause it always seems to get me lost (go figure). Nonetheless it's an interesting place to see.

Good luck on the rest of CoP! Reminds me to go do more missions... if I ever make time...

Grats again!

Well I think your next big mission is the 2-3 sewers and minotaur fight. If you can have someone that knows the way to the boss have them solo sneak to the minotaur which will draw your whole party to it. <From the entrance of the sewers!>
Then all you have to do is watch out for "Doom".

Awesome, Congrats smile.gif

I loved the Promies, even though I did then way back in the day when they were actually hard lol.

I am on the same mission as you now on my taru so if you need a DRG or a MNK for any missions let me know, I would love to help out and at the same time get mine done.

Lufaise is an awesome place and probably one of the nicest in the game and no one ever goes there, such a shame.

Draconum gave you the place to warp in Valkurm, it is on Siren Sands in the tunnel on the left.

Here is the route to Tavnazian Safehold from where you warp in at.

Oh one thing i forgot, stock up on holy waters because if your hit with doom that's the only thing that will save you. Only problem is that it may or may not cancel doom on the first potion so bring a stack because you'll use those things like crazy.

I take it your main tank was the WAR/NIN? I want to help a couple rl friends with this but I'm worried about the difficulty and getting random people to help. The times I did it we used 2x WAR/NIN to dual-tank but I want to know if that's still necessary or if a good blood tank (WAR/MNK is pretty good at 30) can do just as well.

I remember doing Promyvion back before the changes as well. For at least one, I was PLD/WAR with a WAR/NIN backup (we were friends so we trusted each other with hate-bouncing; do at your own risk). Other runs were done with WAR/NIN duo-tanks. Personally, even today I'd prefer the two-tank plan 'cause blood tanking those bosses wasn't a cakewalk back then and I'd worry about it now.

Minotaur is fun. I've only done it once, with the rest of my visits to Phomiuna being related to subligaria. Good times.

It's great to see people still experience and appreciate FFXI like I once did. Grats on beating the Promys!

Thanks for all the helpful posts and nice words. biggrin.gif

I haven't had time to consider any other CoP missions yet cause I was busy getting R5 and my airship pass, but now that that's out of the way I'll look you guys up when my LS sets something up. :]

I guess it wasn't really a rare set up, but rather...as a rdm, I was glad that I still fit somewhere in the equation and managed to be good to my party, because basically everywhere you get told "rdm in Prommies, no thanks". So, I was glad it worked out with me going on my favorite jobs, and without being able to find any smns.

Prommies are a lot easier than they used to be, I remember wiping the floors of Dem and Holla in the past...so I think anyone who still has to do them should go ahead and try out random parties if they can't find LS help, because if you invest in some animas and take your time with it, it isn't that hard to beat anymore.

See you guys in Lufaise. :]
