Leetness I'm gonna get yelled at a lot...

Someone got really mad at me when I used Noob on another forum, so I'm making this because I know a lot of people will yell at it... And that just fits the flame wars spirit.

1337- LEET. LEET was, orignally, a dialect of English that was formed by hackers. It was used to avoid common internet searches. For instance: Someone searching for "Hackers" would find all websites related to hackers. So, the hackers, as smart as they are, formed 1337 to avoid these searches. "Hacker" becomes "I-I@CI<3R". A common internet search of "Hacker" would not get you any results even near that.

However, with the rise of Massively Multiplayer Online Games, another form of 1337 was created.
Leetspeak, doodspeak, and other variations on these names became another way to communicate within an online game. The purpose of these languages was not to avoid searches, but rather to provide an alternate form of communication between two experienced gamers.

"Haha, you just got owned."
Becomes "L0L, U JUST GOT PWND".
This form of leet, as it is commonly viewed on this forum, is not a way to troll. It is, rather, a language developed over neccessity, as english is in many cases to long to type in an online game. The leet commonly used to troll here is another dialect of 1337 altoghether.

N00I3- Noob. This is the language used to troll on these forums, and many other forums. It is annoying as hell to read, and equally difficult in many cases. It is not 1337 or Leetspeak: It is a dialect of these languages that is used purely to annoy and or/make fun of everyone reading them at once.

For instance: "You loser. I am the greatest!"
In Noob, turns into "U LO0S3R!!11 I A/|/\ZZZZ T3H R000|_3RZZZ!!!!111!!1!11!11!11"
There is an obvious difference between the secrecy that is Hacker and the uber that is 1337 from this abomination of the 1337 languages.

Next, we have TxtSpeak.
This is leetspeak, but filled with abbrevations.
"Got to go, I'll see you later."
Becomes "g2g, c u lter."
Commonly used by text-enabled cell phone users, this language is abbreviated to the point of insanity. Read at you own risk.

Finally, we have Engrish, or "Broken English". This is not a form of 1337, but is an important part of MMO history, and is what created the need for localization in online games.

Engrish is the outcome of a direct translation of a foreign MMO into the English language.

In a Korean MMO, what would have read as "You have come here to fight I, and only I."
Would come out "You come here to fight I, I only." when directly translated to English.

As you can see, Hacker is a complicated language to learn, and is best learned by observing others use it. The use of Noob is discouraged, and the use of 1337 is encouraged in many online games.

Also, for those people who will say I don't know any proper english can read this.

A battle-scarred warrior donned a gleaming suit of armor, placing plate against chain against flesh.
A moment's calm ensued, and the warrior prepared himself for the deathly trial that awaited him.
A flash of light glinted off the warrior's armor, signaling the rising sun; At dawn, Death would arrive.
The sun illuminated an otherwise depressing and dark field. It was a place no mortal would ever dare tread, as Death made his home there.
The brave warrior took one breath, and charged forward. His enemies had arrived.
Otherworldly demons confronted our Hero, casting despair and fear where ever they went.
A cry pierced the early morning war; The brave fighter had felled his first demon, only to be assaulted by 300 more.
The knight's armor was no longer gleaming, or clean in any sense. It was stained with demonic blood.
Demi Gods, Demons, Reapers, and creatures that shan't be named fell before the Warrior's righteous fury. He fought wave after wave, fear after fear, Horror after Horror, until only one abomination remained.
Death himself, draped in a dreary and bloody robe, floated 3 feet above the ground. The warrior's sword began to glow a brilliant shade of Gold; The essence of Light was with him.
Death summoned no weapons, but instead transfigured himself into a replica of our Hero. Death's sword radiated pure evil; The essence of Darkness was with him.
Death cackled a terrible laugh, and charged forward, sword poised to attack.
The Hero of Light stood, rooted to his position, awaiting Death to take him.
Death swung his sword with the might of 1,000 tortured souls.
The Hero raised his sword, and with the hopes and inspiration of 1,000 endangered souls, swung back.
The two swords met in a blinding flash of amethyst light.
Death's sword shattered with the pain of all the souls Death had taken.
The Hero's sword remained, held at Death's bony throat.
With one final blow, Our Hero destroyed the replica of himself, Death, and collapsed in an exhausted heap. The Hero looked in front of him, and saw himself dying. No, he though, that was Death.
And yet, he was watching himself die.
The difference between Death and the Knight disappeared, and in defeating Death, the Knight had defeated himself.
Death had not just transformed. He had become the Hero. In every way, he was exactly the same as the Hero. Even Death's soul had become the Hero's. But, one difference escaped this.
The Hero fought for Light, and Death fought for Darkness.
And against a starry backdrop, one soul of Light and one soul of Darkness drifted up, up together,
Into the sky and beyond.

This concluded my frigging long topic XD Hopefully this didn't bored you to the point of insanity. If it did, Flame Me!!!!
