Hello! I'm currently a 30WAR because I have restarted. I was a 60NIN, 58WHM, 55WAR, 50THF and 45THF on my second one. I also had most jobs above 10 before I quit. I also have 15MNK, 25THF and 10BLM. I just wanted to say this to show that I know this game. I've played for 5 years just never got the will to make myself go end game so I mean it this time to get there.
I want to level NIN after I unlock it, my social LS is working on it for me as we speak. I plan on leveling it with respect and still getting good gear. I will farm for this so it might take time to get my NIN up to 75. But that is the first job I want to take. Now I know you might consider it early but I work hard and I can get to 75. I was wondering if there are any LS who are still doing the old stuff? And things such as CoP and ZM. I want to know if there are any spots out there or any LS to look at for these 'old' game content. I am still willing to do ToA and WoG and would be willing to tank. Thanks so much. ^^ I also would be willing to level other jobs but my main job that I want is NIN.

End Game LS?

I'll save you some trouble. You are a new player. Even if you played on and off for 5 years.
1: No "Endgame" shell will get you ZM and CoP. You'll have to /shout or static your way through.
2: There are plenty of "Sky" only Shells and Dyna only shells on this server. Start there. Once you hit 65 do Dyna. Don't worry about CoP and ZM Till you 75. In all honesty if you are doing NIN main level DRK sub. You'll need it @75 if you want to tank HNM.
3: NIN isn't really a "Endgame" job per say. It's good to have in certain instances but 90% of the time PLD/NIN will be better. If you want to tank level PLD.
4: Level BRD RDM or WHM along with NIN. If you want to seperate your self from all the other 1 job 75s you'll need a good support job and those three are ALWAYS in demand. BLM wouldn't be a bad add as well. But save that for CoP.
5: Get a Job to 75 first. Then ZM then CoP. Then worry about "End Game"

Mainly to second Ezell, and reiterate that if you really wanna experience endgame, you need to level a job that people need. BRD is generally your best bet. No one would tell you not to level NIN, but if people don't need them, you're gonna have a hard time doing things, and probably get bored and leave.
There's plenty of linkshells out there that are helpful for making your way to 75. Best advice: stay with them until you reach 75. Maybe you'll be lucky, and they'll even help you get access to sky. No endgame shell is going to accept you without at least one 75 and sky access. Maybe to someone that hasn't been there it sounds harsh, but they have a lot to do. They usually don't feel like spending their down time helping people get their run of the mill quests done.
Good luck to you.

I'm going to play devil's advocate here, but IF you actually focus on NIN and do everything you can to optimize it, then you certainly eke out an endgame experience.
This of course means, get yourself through ZM, CoP, ToAU missions.
Obtain everything for NIN that's not 'endgame' related.. stuff like Optical Hat, AH-buyable items, even so far as Perdu Blade and such.
Level all subjobs that you can possibly make use of, including WAR, RDM, DNC, DRK, BLM (Yes, BLM) etc.
Cap merits for both groups for NIN.
This greatly increases the likelihood that you will be prepared for endgame as a NIN, and then makes you a viable argument for participating in events. There will of course still be events you won't be entirely useful at, however that's the nature of having only one job at 75. However, being a one-trick pony doesn't mean you're completely out of options as far as participating in endgame other than levelling another job.

90% of the time, pld will be better huh? >_>
you need to make it to more LS events and see me at work, son. Nin can tank anything a pld can, and actions speak louder than words. Look at aztech's parse at the last odin.
@OP: lvl nin. endgame tanking ninjas on this server are too afraid to step it up because they feel inferior to a job with a 5 min sentinel macro, even tho they dont know they're capable of generating hate faster on almost all occasions. Get 75 and lvl drk and rdm sub, versatility will get you far. If you have any questions on gear or tanking, just lemme know. we are a dying breed. MOAR NIN TANKS PRZ.

Hello! Thanks! I thought NIN could tank endgame. And I still believe in it. I want to balls up and do it. I did plan on leveling DRK to 37. For my second job I was gonna level RDM to 75 because I enjoy the thought of solo'ing at 75 as RDM/NIN and just wanna play with it.
And I'm pretty sure NIN/DRK has stun and a fast recast time on that due to Haste gear and spells and songs. And then I just need refresh. I always thought that would work endgame.

The grass is greener on the far eastern side of the field.
Although, I will admit you shouldn't be feeling at fault for anything for assuming the big old hit-me-in-the-face-as-it-is-the-only-thing-I'm-truely-good-at-providing job, would be the standard HNM tank. You've got one job that resolves purely around defense in question at first glance, while the other can actually melee/etc, so it only leaves the initiative thought of PLD would be better.
But, due to the nature of how it works in combination of /DRK, it puts much less stress in general for being hit as that extra 'Ni shadow'll go the extra mile, and Stun (barring Khimaira) furthers your duration per Utsu' cast. That, and when at the peak, equipment-wise, you're basically an enmity machine (due to your own tools), as Paladin only has four true enmity tools, of which two run on five minute recasts (Sentinal and Rampart), another is quick but falls short in comparison to Stun (Flash), and the last requires you to fail for it to even become available (Cure), of which failing should never be an objective period
...unless it just comes to show PLD fails! D:
Granted, Paladin's still very good for the most part, as it does get by with the above four enmity tools, as well as the amazing equipment they have available to them, but in the end, if you'd ever run into a truely amazing NIN/DRK (see: the guy posting above that's on your server here), hate to be blunt, but I'm pretty sure you'd never want a PLD ever again past that.
I wouldn't be worried about NIN/DRK at first if you're new to the whole seventy-five deal... get a feel for the game; learn what you feel's still unpredictable, so on and so forth. As a tank, knowing these things can have a much larger impact on yourself compared to you in a different position. After you're sure, then I reckon you could give it a swing, but I'd also reckon saving some money for the equipment too; one thing that'll always be effective for any job, is the condition of what yer' wearing/using.
Hope that helps, yo.

Rich you are the exception! Not the rule.
Yes NIN/DRK is a viable tank. In fact as Rich stats, you can get to the Emnity cap faster than PLD, and can stay there. With enough Gil/time you can hit the MAGIC/PHYSICAL DMG down caps. However, don't think it's an easy road.
Rich is probably single handedly turned the Garuda NIN tanking norm on it's head. Hell remeber we used to BRD/SNM and Blink tank with PLD/WAR????

I know the job, NIN. I seriously read forums all day to learn about how to get hate, hold hate, and tank as a NIN. I looked at gear and I work on getting hate as best I could low level and I usually could hold the hate. And I can get the gil. I'm working on getting THF to 45 so I can make money because that's what I do, farm for it. I don't settle for crappy gear, I go all the way or not at all. I don't worry about money because I'll work for it no matter what because I love NIN as a job. It's my favorite.
