okay...so i just got my parents to buy me a western digital external hard drive as my birthday present, now, before i crack it open, does anyone know if western digital is a good company for external hard drives? im pretty sure they normaly make like, calculators or something, so iunno

it was cheap >.> and i asked one of my buddies the same question and he said that its an alright hard drive, i just didnt want to end up having bought like, some super no name hard drive then have it fall apart on me, and not be able to return it

Yea they are ok or get a Seagate. I bought a few for my work and they are used to back up our network and are fine. I'd not suggest going down the maxtor route.. just had 1 previously at cant say id ever get another one.

What happened to it? Oo. I have one and it works just fine. I guess I need a another xtern hard drive ( if maxtor is that bad ), the other ones I have are full D:

Maxtor is a HORRIBLE HD company.
WD is alright Seagate is the best out their atm however.
Perpendicular recording is the best thing they've ever done not to mention its pretty shock resistant and they break the least.
