It's a feeling every adventurer knows and loves—the heart-racing excitement of discovering a chest stocked full of untold riches. With the forthcoming version update, players can look forward to experiencing this thrill anew with the introduction of the "Treasure Casket," a new type of treasure chest that will hold wonders for those fortunate enough to chance upon one!

Where can I find them?
Treasure Caskets will present themselves on rare occasions only in certain areas which are part of the original FINAL FANTASY XI package. They will not appear in any expansion areas.

How do I open them?
Depending on their fortunes, adventurers may encounter either unlocked Treasure Caskets or locked ones. Unlocked caskets will open readily, allowing treasure hunters to immediately get their hands on the desired loot. Locked caskets will present a more formidable challenge, in the form of a numerical combination lock that you and your party members will have to rack your brains to solve. So sharpen those wits and have your puzzle-solving skills at the ready!

What treasures will they hold?
Unlocked caskets will contain an assortment of temporary items to assist you in your battles. Locked caskets will house a variety of equipment and items, and for the most fortunate adventurers, even exclusive equipment not to be found elsewhere!
What riches lie in wait for you? You'll just have to track down one of these Treasure Caskets and see for yourself. Happy treasure-hunting!

Fail.
Atleast add RotZ zones to it.

On a possitive note, the dunes may see more shout drama.

I try to remain cautiously optimistic about SE's changes but this one just sounds... bad. Original campaign FFXI zones? I guess this is something to enliven people's days while XP'ing, but unless they pop very frequently in popular camps, I can't see the point. Given the choice of places they can appear, it's probably safe to assume that any equipment that drops (hurray, a suit of Scale Mail!) will be similarly low level.

Anyone wanna bet they'll start adding gear with stats like "Level Sync: STR +3"?

Well, since it's going to be all EX gear (Hopefully they're smart enough to do at least that), I see no problem with this.

Honestly, I always felt opening chests to be strangely satisfying. After all, wouldn't you rather be on an adventure finding treasure? Not standing the same spot killing worms over and over? ;P

SE every update you manage to spike my interest, then break my heart outright.

I totally agree with this I really hope SE makes this worth it. If the do make this work perhaps it will pop on like a 30 min basis and wont be down in the tunnel sitting next to the giant footprint in Qufim or behind the Song Rune in the dunes. Then again I'm probably giving the dev team too much credit.

just picture it now 3 75s happen upon a chest in Palborough on the way to do Up in Arms, they open it and get a hi-pot/hi-ether.

TOTALLY USEFUL!

Hmm... i guess (and hope) the locked ones will work like mobs,so if im working on one of them trying to find the code to open it,other players will see it "claimed".

From my understanding, these dont randomly spawn anywere. They pop after killing a mob. Not coffer type spawns.

【Treasure Caskets】
Following the conclusion of combat, a “Treasure Casket” will appear to bring a little bit of cheer to the hunt-weary adventurer.

From the fanfest site, I don't know why they keep leaving this kinda information off the update notice... Or maybe I'm just confused and wrong.

These should be in all conquest zones if anything. Christ, the most leveling in original zones I recall doing is 1-15 and 20-25. I'm guessing "only in certain areas" means outside, as most inside places already have chests/coffers. So I don't count CN/GS/etc.

It's more incentive to xp in some of the older areas to get people xping more places. The locked ones will probably have decent things.

If you knew just a little bit more you wouldn't make such claims.. They said that if it's well received they'll add it to more areas.. But for now think about it for a second: Who is going to get most use out of the system? The 14 day trials and other newbs. This is the SYSTEM FOR NEW PLAYERS that SE was talking about when they announced that ver update was coming. This has nothing to do with high level people and seriously, why would it? Who's gonna stop to chain #234 when a chest pops in bhaflau thickets and you might find a Tabar inside.. Nobody. But who is struggling for gil, always needing new equip and would get most use out of the random hi pots and ethers... the newbs. The people below 50. The ones that exp in the normal areas. The ones that stop at chain 5. And especially the ones that do Fields of Valor.

This part of the update has probably nothing to do with you. That doesn't mean it's bad though. I'm almost 100% certain if this works out as good as it will it's going to be added to RoZ and WoTG areas at least. But why use so many resources if it's not going to be well received? They will look at player's reactions and add more of it in the next update if they think it'll be good.

And mobs drop them... Level 75's killing mobs in palbo... I thought it's the players at around 10 killing mobs there... they'll make use of those potions, I'm sure.

Meh, like you said it's most likely you being bored or something. I've seen it makes people hate FFXI before too. Please keep it to yourself though >_>; We don't want to hear it

First of all how do you know this is the new system? i must of missed that part where it said this was the new system, and also this has everything to do with me as a beastmaster i dont get to experience the #234 chains so this would be something awesome and fun for me to do, so i thought it was anyways.

Not going to say your the reason why SE half asses 75% of there work but you certainly not helping by being ok with all the half ass updates they do. And why wait for reactios? why not just add it to the other zones? in other words they are being lazy about it and they think its gonna fail like chocobo racing and all the other junk that no one bothers with.

Not all of us have time to research and ponder every last option of how our post can be debunked. I read the thread then responded with my opinion. If you can quote, where in the thread it says "You obtain these when a monster dies" I will leave this thread and never return. Hell i just read the SE blog that they put out and talked about this. Even that says nothing about killing something to get it. Don't attack someone for not googling every piece of information about something before posting in a public forum.

I like this. Looks like a good thing for low level newbies and for leveling that new job.
