Fishing - Does it pay off?

I have been leveling fishing on and off for like 4 years now. It is 36 atm, but i have decided to put more effort into it. Only problem i have right now is that it seems a lot of things i try out, usually end up not profiting me at all after all that time being spent. Basically i wanted to know from high level fishermen, 95+ if fishing will actually make me decent profit per hour where i can eventually afford best in slot items for most of my gear. To my knowledge it will take me at least couple of months to get it up there, and i don't feel like leveling it if it would be making me like 50k gil tops per hour .

at 36 you should be able to make 50k an hour easy.

Hang on.

So you purchased a rod. Then you purchased either some cheap bait, or a lure or some sort. Then you went and fished up stacks of fish, with no more cost. Then sold the fish.

I'm confused how the above chain of events does NOT lead you to profit with fishing.

1. Buy fishing equipment.
2. Catch fish.
3. ???
4. Profit.

I think it went more like

1. Buy fishing equipment
2. Catch fish
3. Place fish inside pants
4. ???
5. Fungus on your gibbleys and possible ammonia poisoning

Ignorance is a bliss. Time = money. If i am making 2k per hour from fishing, than i am losing money instead of making it. Because, i can go and farm something and make 10 times more with the same amount of time being spent. Now with that explanation at hand, hopefully someone will be able to answer my question in a coherent manner =).

Skilling up any craft is an investment, not a way to make money there and then. In the case of fishing, you do 'make' money and therefore it is more of an investment of time. I can 100% guarantee you, if you ever reach 100 fishing, you'll look back at your now inexperienced views and chuckle.

At least he didn't ask something severely retarded like "What's the cost of leveling fishing 0-100?" or "How much does goldsmithing 0-100 cost?"

I am simply amazed at the stupidity of some of the posters. Read my post again, and this time, read the whole thing, before you go ahead and post a response. "Fishing: Does it pay off" is a pretty good hint by itself. I seriously recommend ESL for some of you guys. 2k/hr was a "hypothetical".

All of the people who responded to you said "If you only make 2k/hr fishing" in response, making it YOUR ideal hypothetical, therefore there is no need to call them stupid or any of that, re-read thier posts dumbass.

At least they took the time to respond to you, something i don't plan on doing again... You pose a question, end up not liking the answers you get and then lash out at people who actually responded to you, it's fucking rude. How can you expect anything more than a stupid hypothetical answer when you pose a stupid hypothetical question?

2k/hr is a gross under exaggeration even at skill 0 you can make double or triple that easily.

The real question is are you willing to spend years and years standing in one place and hitting right and left to level fishing to 100?

If you can, then it pays off

Yes, at least they took the time to state the obvious, not to mention the sarcasm. I doubt any of them are 90+ because that's the kind of people i was expecting a reply from.

This is probably the first post that's actually addressing what i was talking about in my initial post. I want to know how much i'm looking at per hour average at 95+, can i fund crafts like smithing with it by fishing 2-3 hrs a day? i'm talking about anywhere from 50-100k per hour. (Sushi being 10k per stack for reference).

I'm level 99 fishing and I can make about 90k to 200k with 5 to 6 hours of fishing (that is selling fish to NPC or AH). If I played this game full time, that would not be worth it for me. Since I watch alot of TV and work IRL while I fish, it works for me.

You can make more money farming 5 to 6 hours that "I" can make in 5 to 6 hours of fishing and selling to npc/AH. This also depends alot on your server (ie. prices of black sole, trumpet shells). There are other tricks you can do to make 500k a day fishing that takes a bit more investing in other crafts (not talking about cooking btw)...but I would like to keep that to myself.
