So I tried to search but didn't see anything particularly informative, so I figured I would just ask.
Has anyone figured out how the coffers work now?
Its been 2 days (Earth time) and about 5 hours of logged in time, since the last time I picked a coffer or chest and I still can't open anything.
Getting sick of illusion chests...

Coffer update? Did I miss something?
I've been offline for a couple of days (my lolbirthday) and I didn't hear of any update that fiddled with coffers.

in the December update (i think) they supposedly lowered the repop time on coffers. Making it easier for people to get af, and also changed it so that you can only get items/gil from coffers once every so often... i forget the exact times though.
here's the pol info

From my understanding of how it works now, if a chest or a coffer is picked/opened normally by someone for something other than AF/Map/Quest item, the coffer will respawn in 5-10 minutes and NO ONE can open one for gil/items for 1 hour after it was last opened.

The coffer respawn times were lowered, possibly to instant respawn but I haven't looked into it. The catch is that if you try to open the coffer and you don't need any quest item from it and someone popped it for loot (non-quest item) in the past (unsure about this time, so it's a complete guess) 30min~1hr, the coffer will say it was a fake, it'll disappear, but at least you retain your key (though I haven't tested it for picks). If you need a quest item from it, it will always open properly.
When I say quest item, I'm including AF and Maps as well as standard quests, and the chests work the same way as the coffers I believe though possibly with a lower delay between opening them for non-quest items.

Yeah I forgot about that after I read it heh. On Seraph (probably most other servers too) gillsellers were always in Castle Zvahl going for coffers and farming. People who were there for AF had little chance against them.

I find this update a little obnoxious. Having coffer respawns be practically immediate is great, it helped a friend of mine complete his Beastmaster AF the other day, but when I went to discharge myself of a Kuftal Koffer Key, I found that I could not. The "You can't get gil/loot" thing really ought to be player-specific.

Oh wow, that sucks. Suppose it's geared towards stopping GS groups.
