okay so a month or so ago i asked what has changed in 3 years smile.gif well if taken the game back up and am now a 56 drg. loving it a lot. but i have a few questions about gear. At level 60 ima stop level subs and make a little bit of gil for gear and the like. atm this is my set up

WPN: Holy lance. (ill get a royal knights at 60)
Grip: mythril +1
Head: walkure mask
Neck: Mermans
Ear: Spike *2
Body: Jaridah peti
Hands: Enkelados bracelets
Rings: Woodsman ring / Sun ring.
Back:Jaguar mantel
Belt: life belt.
Trousers: Wonder braccae.
Shoes: Wonder clomps.

I use meat food mitha kabobs, and sole sushi when acc is really playin up.
my main question is with the 2 acc traits how much acc is really neccasary?

with my gear i have 27 acc with job traits that makes 49. i have 15 extra str but minus 4 dex and 24 attack not including that extra str. do i need more acc gear or should i be focusing on extra str or boosting my dex a bit? im looking at gear lv 60 or below. any advice welcome.

dont use any of the gigas line of bracelets unless its to WS for wheeling thrust.a nice piece of cheap equip is battle gloves about lvl 14 or so.gives 3 acc 3eva which is the same as the jiradah gloves @ lv 55 or w/e it is.other than that your gear seems good.just try to replace the sun ring with another acc ring {venerer ring or ulathum's(sp) ring(reward from finishing ToaU missions)works here}

royal knights is just as valid as dark M imo, since its just a step on the way to 75.cant really go wrong with 7acc on a weapon for 5+ lvls that is also very cheap!also u can macro in str/dex equip for when u WS but for tp best to try and stick with acc and then haste at later lvls.

I'm at around this point atm. So I'll just use this thread rather than clone it.

With the following 60 setup, do you think I can afford (accuracy-wise) to keep the STR rings?

Royal Knight's Lance
Mithril Grip+1
Attar Satchet

Valkyrie Mask
Spike Necklace
Spike Earrings x2

Jaridah Peti
Spike Finger Gauntlets
Puissance Ring x2

Cavalier's Mantle (Eh...)
Life Belt
Af Pants/Legs (everything else here sucks too)

Rice Dumplings

----

Can't afford things like Assault Earring yet... In the meantime I don't want to just stop leveling period. So obviously plunking down for double Woodsmans isn't a desired option.

should atleast aim for woodsman/venerer, and merman gorget[cheap +5 acc on neck]

I have the Gorget... You'd say that over Spikey?

Actually, I have the Woodsmans too... But they're on shared time. I was mostly wondering how much other Accuracy would suffice w/o using them. Eventually I'll have to shell out the gil for a second pair, but hopefully not soon.

generally, I'd tp in gorget and ws in spike since it's mod for penta/skewer, and acc needed depends on mob really

I guess I overrated Spike Necklace a bit due to the updated 2H formulas. Thinking about it more clearly I don't know why I would opt for that for TP over Gorget.

Pole Grip seems like a waste right now. I'm gonna start subbing SAM if I can, and 2% Double Attack chance may outparse other stuff over long play times, but it's never going to happen when I'd need it to. At that low a chance, it's more of a 'random epeen potential' thing so I'd rather have something more consistent - seeing as parties want to to keep the chain going more than they want to see you bust a move every 3 fights/50 WS's or so.

If I could stack other sources of Double Attack I might agree, but as it is I'd even prefer Katana Strap to that, since it stacks an already-present random chance in my favor. And it's not like I'm actually capping on Accuracy anyhow.

Optimal gear for 60 range
RK lance if you are dealing significantly more than the other DD's because 7 acc will do more good
Dark Mez if you're parsing about the same, since when it procs (which is decently often) it will help everyone out and at 60 range, no one is capped acc

Grip-pole strap is solid, mythril grip +1 is about the same
Ammo-tiphia sting is best, smart grenade is free

Head-patro's/voyager would be best, but hard to get, otherwise emp pin is good since 3dex=2.25acc otherwise valk/walk for attack.

Neck-pcc>chiv>spike=merman's

Ears-assault>minuet(active)>merman>spike>minuet(inactive)

Body-SH>jaridah

Gloves-Spiked finger gauntlets>Creek (lvl62 taru rse2)>AF>battle (AF's 2.25acc/+5 pet acc > 3acc imo, and I wouldn't swap AF/battle for gigas line for WS)

Rings-Sniper's+1/Torr>Rajas=Ulth>Woods=Sniper>stat rings (usually full time rajas/ulth in sync, but w/s can be better than rajas depending on your hit rate)

Back-Amemet+1 (lvl61)>sandi mantle>jaguar mantle (augmented beak mantle could be best)

Waist-Swift > life~potent for TP, potent>life for WS (possibly swordbelt+1 or vanguard if eating sushi)

Legs-Republic subligar>herder's>RSE (depending on race) > garrison hose (some people feel the need to wear pants)

Feet-RSE2 (depending on race, Creek clomps a-ok!)>leaping>RSE (depends on race)>Tabin +1
AF boots are a jump macro only, do not full time these

Additionally, Raven/Crow gear is amazing for dragoon. HQ hat is -8 enmity, which head is a weak slot for most. Gloves/legs/feet all have decent bonuses and there isn't amazing gear for those slots. I also have Raven Jupon so I would swap it out for TPing when SJ and HJ wasn't up. Trooper's ring can be another solid choice. Sure, -enmity gimps your damage, but if it allows you to keep food up will easily counter it, though spamming kabobs in full DD gear works too, w/e.

A note about acc is that you won't have capped hit rate easily. For sync lessers my dragoon had 2 polearm merits along with 40-50 in acc w/hasso and I still fully-benefited/needed hunter's/madrigal. I found it easiest to parse myself and constantly adjust gear. When you're overcamping the bird camps (58-60 for lessers, 65-67 for normals) you'll need significantly less acc gear, but usually you'll want to toss on everything you have access to, but again parse and find out!

TY TY TY TY TY!

I had completely forgotten that 60 was when Chivalrous Chain and Potent Belt become available. I dunno why I would consider anything else, at least other than that brain fart.

I also appreciate your realism on the matter, but really, reminding me of those 2 pieces makes this conversation worth it in itself. I do in fact often end up heavily out-doing other 2-handers on damage-per-hit, but that's only because I'm not always working with the 1337-est party members, and when I do they're often gear-nerfed by Level Sync.

That kinda relates to the reason I even asked. I'm not usually working with very optimized parties, and I'm not always prepared myself, but I don't want to blow them off because I get a lot of my leveling done in them and generally have fun in the process. It'll be a while since I'm not so poor on gil but I'd like to do what I can in the meantime - being in a ragtag party makes it all the more important to pull my weight (since my portion may be unusually heavy). =D
