hey guys its been a long time.... it is great to see this post.... I had a funny feeling to come on this site (which I havent done in years) and i see this post.
I don't play anymore. It has been years (since late 2006 i believe). I think SE deleted my character because I stopped logging on.
I have been extremely busy with life; in senior year of college so it is crunch time. I miss you guys i remember all the stories too. Some of you I have on facebook. I don't mind doing some type of reunion. Maybe come back together in FFXIV, who knows.
Its great knowing who still plays and doesn't.

I'm happy to see so many people replied! I'm glad you're all doing well and have moved on, or are continuing to play and enjoy the game. If you're ever in Atlanta please shoot me an email or call. Look me up on facebook (David D'Onofrio).

Few people even remember/knew Spanky, too bad the ease of travel with warp made Itchy much easier to play, so he won my love. Maybe we can play FF14 from the start together if you plan to play that.

OH MY GOD!!! I just came on because I've been thinking of FFXI in the past few days and what do I see!?
Ryons and Cares and Nighty!!!! And Holden!!
!!!!
Holy crap!
I'm Mogrick, I played from November 2003 - December 2005.
Argh!! It's so cool to see you all! I'm going to post some screenshots for memories' sake! I wonder if you'll remember ;-). Even Vergil's in a couple of these, but I wouldn't expect you to remember me since I was never in Ilterendi.

My second day ever playing FFXI! Notice the awesome armour and leet sword. Taken by Ryons.

The only one I could find with Cares in it

An exp party with Vergil and Ryons

I was fighting this thing for about an hour and it kept healing itself, then Leatherface & Vergil came and killed it.

Rockius and me killing Aquarius.
OOoooh. I remember the linkshells ReignOfChaos, ACESxANDxEIGHTS, BadKitty.
Argh!
I have so many screenshots even now, 4 years on, that they remind me so vividly of the game. I can remember like it was 5 minutes ago! I remember everyone and everything! I had such a good time.
God I wish I could play this game again. I'd really really love to go back in time and do it all again. I just don't have the time now though. I'm about to start my third year at uni - I'll barely have time for anything let alone an MMO. If I had the time though, I'd start playing again tomorrow XD
It was such great fun guys. Maybe one day in the distant future we'll meet on FFXIV (If we ever have the time to play).
I still have your MSN ads, Cares and Ryons, maybe one day I'll do something crazy like talk to you!
>_> Sorry for the epic post but I got a bit carried away.

Don't sell yourself short bro, of course I remember you! BTW, I remember when we killed Aquarius. To be honest though, I have no idea what I did to help or even why I was in the tree. I was prolly leveling a weapon skill I never used or something stupid like that, I always used to do misc. things to try and improve my character even though most were fruitless. <;D

Those were the days. ^^
BTW, my AIM is TZN XII. I'm not much of a conversationalist but if you wanna drop a line and say hey, feel free. :D

Aha, this thread is up and kicking again! That makes me happy.
Thought I'd stop by again... How is everyone?
I'm now a senior in college, soon to graduate with two bachelor's degrees in Sociology and English...
I started this game as a sophomore in High School... Wow.
I'm definitely looking forward to FFXIV -- coming out just in time for me to be done with my schooling and on to the 'real world'.
How have things changed since the 'good old days'?
I saw one of Onibus's videos here: and I couldn't help but feel nostalgic... so I'm probably going to upload the ones I have soon.

lo, funny of you to post, I found this pic I made way back when as I was cleaning out my old Photobucket:

Wow that video...So many names...
Its kind of depressing actually. I've been playing WoW recently with a friend. Its a totally different environment. Everyone is just a DPS or heals or a tank, all expendable and able to be replaced. You dont really have the connection you had with everyone like in FFXI. Kind of makes you think all those hours waiting just for one NM to pop were actually worth more than you realized at the time.
Actually, I'm not expendable because I'm super pro heals no matter what the game is.

You have no idea how much I agree with you.
The game is fun, don't get me wrong but that's all it feels like really. Just a game. When I played FFXI it felt like I was doing something more, I got way more immersed in the game and connected with the people better. Of course that could simply come from being forced to party with total strangers just to get one measly level but still, something about FFXI made it more.. "magical". I never was able to enjoy WoW on the same level I enjoyed FFXI and that's a shame. But anyway, what you run with in WoW bro? I faction changed to Alliance to play with some friends so I'm a Night Elf now(formally a Tauren) and I bet anyone here who knows anything about me can guess my class ;]. If I had to guess I'd say you're a Priest but the race is up in the air. :x

Hey, I havent played in over 2 years. I dont even have the disks anymore nor do I plan on coming back. Ive gotten engaged since than and now thats up in the air due to other reasons. Glad to see everyone is doing ok.
P.S. I dont even plan on buying the new one when it comes out. MMORPG's took to much of my life and now I dont have the time nor patience for it.

LOL -- Love the comic, but I think what the saddest part of it all is... I'm about 99% sure that conversation actually happened. Ugh.
Onto the other topic: I'm truly glad that FFXI was my 'first' MMO. It sort of set a standard for me that can't be undone. I play WoW actively now... a Night Elf Restoration Druid named Kanzeon (I bet you could have guessed that... and yes, my second highest class is a warlock named Shoukanshi ...Summoner in Japanese...) I have been playing WoW passively for many years, even when I still played FFXI, but the quick-paced environment left much to be desired. By saying that, I don't just mean the battle system, which -is- a lot faster, thus reducing a lot of communication during actual fights (even if you use Vent), but what I really mean is how quickly everything changes. People come and go from guilds... some transfer or leave without even saying goodbye... You don't really get to know anyone. In hindsight, camping monsters like Fafnir really got us all to know each other. For 30 minutes, all we did was chat... and gathering for events made us very chatty as well.
There was real substance to our server... from the common-knowledge drama between Poisoned and PJ's to our real-life problems that we always shared and cared about. Even if some people didn't post their faces for all to see, it was much more believable to say that they had one, rather than just a random and easily replaceable person. In WoW, if someone steals an item, someone might spam in trade chat for a while calling them a thief, but by the next day... all is forgotten. With XI, if someone did something douche-y, EVERYONE knew about it. People actually had reputations, either good or bad.
In WoW, yeah, it's just tank, heals, dps, with a bit more emphasis on the harder fights... but still...
This is why I will be playing FFXIV the day it comes out. It's that sort of environment I miss, which WoW has shown me it doesn't have. The 'community' aspect was always the best thing about XI, which I guess is why I lost interest when most of the first-generation 75's started quitting, or splitting up and going to different servers. It just wasn't the same, and most of us knew that.
