This is the official Thiefs history written by Square Enix. It was sold in japanese books long ago. Enioy.
The italic comments are not in the book, but are personal comments.

Rather than attacking the enemy head on, a Thief uses their keen ability and quick wit to confuse the enemy, steal items, and add support through their expert sense of strategy.

Rogue's Armlets
These gloves protect the back of the hand up to the elbow. There are individual fingers to facilitate the delicate movements Thieves require for picking locks and such.

Rogue's Bonnet
This bonnet-type hat completely covers the head. It helps to obscure the Thief's hair and face so they cannot be easily identified when stealing.

Rogue's Culotte
The hem of these trousers hug the lower leg to make it easy to move about. There are 7 pockets around the belt (Mithra have only 6) to store an assortment of tools.

(Pictures for comparison from Altana Viewer.
The pockets on the belt actually appear to be attached to the Rogue's Vest graphic, even though they are described as being part of the Culotte.)

Rogue's Vest
A Rogue's Vest consists of an outer vest and an undershirt (brassiere for females) with a free and breezy style. The only real protection is a sturdy plate around the neck.

(Most males have full undershirts, while females have little bras. TaruTaru males and females share the same undershirt design.)

Rogue's Poulaines
These shoes are very thin and cover the toes. Due to this, and the light materials used, they help one to run with great speed.

The Mystery of Atarefaunet Band

Back in the day, Atarefaunet Band was a band of thieves who would assault merchants traveling to and from Jeuno to the three nations. They amassed enormous amounts of treasure from their attacks. However, twenty years ago during the Crystal War, Atarefaunet was killed by a traitor in his ranks, and the remaining members of the band scattered. Vauderame of the Tenshodo, is looking to finally track these members down and is gathering skilled Thieves to aid in his cause. However, Nanaa Mihgo has caught wind of rumors involving a royal treasure of the forgotten Tavnazian Marquisate.

Caught up in this intrigue of theft and gambling, it will take no ordinary Thief to overcome this mystery.

Nanaa Mihgo

Commonly referred to as the cat burglar, Nanaa Mihgo is the Mithra Thief who resides in Windurst Woods. As the name suggests, her livelihood is her business of stealing and plundering treasures. Recently though, the band of kids known as the Star Onion Brigade has been proving to be a thorn in her side. In fact, there is one case where Windurst resident millionaire, Honoi-Gomoi, demands a Star Spinel as compensation for the Mana Orb Nanaa herself stole, but pinned on the group of youngsters.

Although she appears as the villain in quests involving the Star Onions, she is in fact a caring person and has several devout subordinates. She also has a past, which may involve the former Chieftainness of Kazham, Romaa Mihgo, with who she shares a surname.

(The quest involving the stolen Mana Orb and the Star Spinel is Crying Over Onions, which is part of a series of quests with the Star Onion Brigade.)

Romaa Mihgo is the mother of Nanaa Mihgo. When Romaa did not choose her daughter to succeed her as Chieftainness of Kazham, Nanaa left the country.

Abilities

Perfect Dodge
With blazing agile movements, this secret technique allows the Thief to disrupt the enemy and completely avoid all physical melee attacks. However, this ability cannot dodge ranged attacks or magic.

Steal
With this ability, a Thief quickly sneaks into an enemy pocket and takes an item. If the target is not carrying any items, this ability will have no effect.

Sneak Attack
This ability allows a Thief to quickly deliver a fatal strike to the enemy from behind. The greater one dexterity with their weapon, the greater the damage they can inflict.

Flee
Whether they are chasing an enemy, or perhaps running from one, this ability allows a Thief to run at great speeds, which some say can match that of a Chocobo.

Weapons and Armor
Chicken Knife
A genius tactician from the East made this dagger as a physical manifestation of his credo: Of the Thirty-Six Stratagems, fleeing is best. While this phrase seems to promote cowardice among Thieves, the dagger itself proves to be quite a useful tool.

(The Thirty-Six Stratagems are Chinese proverbs. There does not appear to be any representation of this or the tactician in Final Fantasy XI.)

Ziska's Crossbow
The Warlord Ziska used this rapid-fire crossbow to launch his fierce assault against Sand 'Oria during the First Battle of Konschtat. Protected inside a military tank, Ziska launched a barrage of poison-tipped darts upon the enemy forces. In modern times, deadly tactics like this have been forbidden by peace treaties.

(The First Battle of Konschtat took place in 563. Hidden Republic forces, armed with new and improved crossbows, lined up and stopped the Royal Knights dead in their tracks, crushing the ambitions of King Acheufagais R D'Oraguille and preventing San d'Oria from taking Konschtat Highlands.)

Noct Beret
As the name implies, the Noct (Night) Beret is a made for a Thief who moves through the night. It is crafted from simple materials, such as the linen crown and ram leather brim, and adorned with a Chocobo feather.

Narasimha's Vest
This ornamental piece of armor is an improvement of a Cardinal Vest, reinforced with leather made from the hide of Narasimha. The process adds the great monsters superhuman strength to the vest, making it more suitable for battle.

I knew it was really you in the centre of the galaxy, and not some giant black hole.
