I'm running Vista Home Premium...
Have an AMD Phenom 9950 Quad Core at 2.2ghz each...
5 gigs of ram...
and a newly obtained geforce 9800 GT biggrin.gif

I get 9 FPS ingame while fraps is recording regardless of location or settings.

So I figured, the best place to ask how to improve the recording quality for FFXI would be in KI's video board.

Or perhaps there are other "free" video recording apps out there that I haven't heard of?

Hm that's weird you'd get such low FPS anywhere especially with a decent set up... All I'd suggest is making sure your card is up to date, DirectX, and any codec you can think of that might apply. Although, it's possible your card is so new there is a conflict issue either with FRAPS or FFXI itself.

Only other bit of info I can give you is what I set FRAPS to for when I record things;

Full-Size
No Sound
30 FPS
No cursor and no snyc unticked

Thats another thing, it records any other program just fine, even with sound, and disabling sound has no effect on FFXI.
Also noteworthy is that I had been on a 9300 that came with the PC stock with the same exact recording problems for FFXI.

I also tried setting the "core affinity" for FFXI and Fraps on seperate cores so that FFXI couldn't hog it all from fraps, no good.
