at first i hated it, but i did not see it work because of /sam and 3 eye so i figured maybe ti was from that.
as my trip to 75 i see it proc time to time , meh no big deal i thought, helped me killed maat when i forgot sleep potion.
now i think you get skill ups on retaliation hits, lest it seemed that way because when i fought 5 robber crabs at once i got faster skill ups then doing one.
also you look like your swinging fast as fuck, like a perma 100 fists when you have about 5-7 or more crabs in frount of you. same goes with tp gain, i assume you gain tp on these hits as well.
I have SS of getting 2 levels of skill in a single window if anyone wants to see them i can post them later

Retaliation has been exploited for quite some time on skill-ups.

Yeah, WAR/DNC I skilled up every weapon we can equip to 210+.
I started out thinking Retaliation was completely worthless in merit parties. However, with a pretty solid backline (I like COR+BRD,) Hasso + Retaliation can be feasible at birds if you're getting the right buffs. Birds are never going to one-shot you, and most of the time they do some stupid shitty TP move instead of Pecking Flurry. With Warrior's Roll, Chaos Roll, March x2, Haste, and Hasso, you're running ~35% Magical + 10% JA + ~20% gear Haste, pushing you down to 35% of your original delay, meaning you attack about 3x normal. If you swapped the lesser March for a Minuet and stopped using Hasso, you'd be back above 50%, attacking about 2x normal. It very significantly increases your DoT, and thanks to the birds' shitty selection of TP moves, the damage taken in a party killing that speed is perhaps more negligible than one might think.
I wouldn't have believed it was feasible until I did it, but it really can be done. The party I had that did it the best was a COR/WHM, WHM/SCH, BRD/NIN, WAR/SAM (me), MNK/NIN (full Usu,) and a NIN/WAR. The WHM kept buffs and cures up remarkably well, and the COR was really putting his sub (though some might disagree with his choice) to use. It probably would have been a better party if the MNK had subbed WAR, but it was really really fun the way it was. The NIN would Provoke and the monk would instantly grab hate with DoT and hold it off me until I WSed. I self-skillchained multiple times thanks to DAs and Retaliation. I will admit that I switched back to Seigan because the JP WHM autotranslated that he wasn't going to R3 me (not that he ever let me die) when I complimented him on keeping me alive for the last 2 hours despite Hasso + Retaliation. I don't think he had noticed what I was doing to take so much damage until then. I probably wouldn't have tried it, but it was an early AM party and I was feeling silly!

I had a great pt with brd/whm rdm/whm war/sam(me), war/nin(friend) drg/sam and a sam/nin(I think). the war would first voke and I would bomb the bird quickly. I didn't keep hasso up fulltime because it would have killed the rdm, but the increased counter from seigan and relatiation procs allowed me to control the pace of the PT. I prefer /sam at birds just for the fact flurry doesn't strip third eye like it does with utsusemi.

This is how I skilled up shield.

You can solo Toughs quite reliably with this method. Once I almost soloed Amemet but it locked me in petrification for like 8 minutes at around 50%. I bet Ridill would be killer for this style of soloing.

getting a phalanx pet and some damage down -% stuff really helps, i require 10 + mobs

proir to this pic i did spinning scythe > spinning scythe > reverb > shaddow of death < induaration ( showin) then i did spinning scythe again for fragmentation.
i hope to get one of those weps with 999 delay from dyna that should make tp gain like this really insane. I do not think the delay matters when you have this many mobs

Relic Bhuj is the new Relic Knuckles! This makes me regret dropping it, but it seems like it could work well for tp gain as /dnc, granted you would need a ton of str to get you to not hit for 0 though no?
But one of the 999 delay weapons with some store tp can get you about 20tp per hit so you'ld need 1 swing and 4 retaliations to ws (which would be about the ratio with that delay). Using GS might prove better for elemental WS if you were going to be using tp. Each hit would guarantee at least a curing waltz I.
What would be the slowest weapon war could use while still maintaining decent damage with high tp gain? I can't really find anything slower than 504 GAs. Could work well with Balestarius the -8% damage taken GA as well.
