What do you guys usually merit for group 2? I mean Warrior's Charge is pretty much a given, but i wanted to hear what you guys selected as a second. I was thinking that maybe tomahawk might be good in certain situations, i don't use any ranged on my war so i would not ever use aggressive aim, and savagery looks good, but meriting warcry would probably be a must. Im probably going to go with 6 points to great axe (I have 8 in H2H and im going to lvl SAM so putting the other 6 in great katana), 5 DA and 5 Berserk, 5 Warrior's Charge and....dont know for the other one.

I'm planning on going 5/5 on Warrior's Charge/Savagrey. Tomahawk can be nice, but in the cases where I'd most likely use it I'd be better of going Blue Mage I think.

Savagery would be so much cooler if you could WS at 50% tp under warcry, then I would bother to go 5/5 of it, but seeing as it's just a 50% tp bonus, tomahawk would more than likely provide a larger bonus if you fight anything susceptible to it relatively often, via events, NMs, etc.
If you're not going to be fighting anything that tomahawk would be helpful for or if you're in a situation like corr where you would just go another job then savagery would provide a benefit once or twice every five minutes.
You could also go 5/5 WC 4/5 savagery, and 1/5 tomahawk for just in case situations.

Good point, at least one Tomahawk could have some benefit. I just think Savagrey could be helpful since when I got 100+TP and Bergresser is down I usually use Warcry for an alternitive.

5/5 WC and 1/5 Tomahawk right now. Although the there aren't that many instances to use Tomahawk, the instances where I can use it I wish it was on a shorter recast. Limbo/Einhejar/Nyzul basically. I see no point to Savegry so will cap Tomahawk.
One thing I'm not to sure of though, does meriting it lower the recast or just lengthen the duration?

ffxiclopedia says it extends the duration by 0:00:15 per merit

That's what I did.. Tomahawk is really nice on nyzul isle floors if you get puddings.. also did 2/5 berserk, 2/5, aggressor, and 1/5 warcry along w/ the obv 5/5 DA.. Not having berserk/aggressor up at the same time would bug the crap out of me >.>

5/5 Warrior's Charge
4/5 Savagery
1/5 Tomahawk
I have to agree with this as well.. Tomahawk can really speed things up against mobs with special dmg resistances.. helps nicely in limbus too.

The more I think about it, the less useful I find Savagry to be honest.
From my understanding, the "TP Bonus" on Martial Weapons give a 100% TP increase so if you had 100 TP, your WS get get the Dmg boost of a 200% WS. But with Savagry, the bonus is only 10% TP per merit, to a max of 50, so with fully capped Savagry, you would have to save to 150% TP to get that second tier effect. Using a WS at 150% TP is just as strong as using it at 100, so Savagry with anything less then 150 TP is pretty much useless. And going 4/5 on Savagry makes it even more of a waste because you'd need 160 TP. And in a game where people do everything they gain to minimize their swings to 100, having to swing that extra 3-4 times to get to that 160 mark for a slight increase in Dmg instead of burning at 100 and using those 3-4 to get back to 60-80 TP seems like it wouldn't be worth it.
Had Savagry given a 20% boost per merit instead of a 10% boost, it would have been a whole different story. But as is, I can't see the point of going 4/5 with it
All in all, I think War got pretty hosed on G2s...not as bad as Nin but still nothing great. As pointed out, Savagry has it's problems. Tomahawk is a nice concept, but very limited use, and Aggressive Aim actually works against having Tomahawk. And while Warrior's Charge is awesome in concept, getting a guarenteed Double Attack once every 5 minutes really isn't all that impressive. But then again, a lot of jobs got the ass end when it comes to G2 so I guess I shouldn't really complain.

Lol, no...
I'm surprised no one has beat me to this yet...
Any TP above 100% effects the TP mod for a weaponskill. Otherwise savagery would indeed be pointless, and SE may not be the brightest bunch at times but i don't think they would make such a blunder. Really you don't have to think about it... Compare your WS damage at 100-110% to your ws damage at 175-195% tp and tell me you dont see a difference. I'm positive this is also easily tested and proven with Spirits within.
But back to the topic...
I went 5/5 WC 3/5 savagery and 2/5 Thawk just because in the situations where you Can use it it's quite useful. the 30 second duration gives you enough time to take full advantage of it's effect because you and other meele can ws then have enough time to go apeshit on w.e your fighting.

After looking it up some, I see I was mistaken and you're correct. Knowing this, it seems Savagry isn't as bad of a merit after all.
....still woulda been better if it was 20% per merit

You're still getting 1, maybe 2 weaponskills per warcry, which will still probably be on a 5 minute timer. It's a mediocre merit at best.
Tomahawk can make a very substantial difference for war on things where you can use it. Granted, most people don't regularly fight things on war where you might use it, especially when they have other 75s better designed to fight them.
At least we have strong category 1 merits, though I am pretty unimpressed with category 2 in general. WC is neat, but I mean, max 1 extra DA every five minutes when we can already get our DA rate 20%+... it's not really that great. Yes, it has its uses, but there's over 20% chance of the same effect on every WS anyways. Aggressive aim has to be the worst merits ever, gimping a JA to turn it into a useless merit, lolSE. Even if aggressor never had any racc (which is hard to verify now), +20 racc is pretty subar when you can get about that from just Seiryu's kotes, it doesn't even match the +25 acc of aggressor. Savagery does increase your damage, but only once or twice every five minutes. Tomahawk is potent, but quite situational.
By no means am I complaining, the job has plenty of strengths and doesn't desperately need any boosts, but the category 2 merits are not one of its strengths in my opinion.

Don't forget you can have 2 DA's on a WS. So with WC being used you're guaranteed 1 for sure with a 20% chance(depending on gear and merits) of having another DA. 2 DA's on a single WS makes for a sexy ass WS.
I do however agree that our other T2 merits are kind of weak, I have one in Tomahawk 5 in WC and refuse to merit the others, they just seem like such a waste to me.
