Finally making my return

After dropping FFXI for WoW for about 3 years (biggest mistake ever), I'm making my return to FFXI, planning on playing a BLM as I did before I left. Are we still a sought after job end game? I'm solely looking to find an end game ls eventually and running groups with them.
Thank you for the feedback and looking forward to seeing you all in game.

BLM isn't as sought after as it used to be unfortunately. It's still an awesome job for endgame but there are quite a few places where BLM isn't used and you'll want to level a melee or support job for those instances.
For actually leveling the job, you'll find it a lot harder nowadays. Once you reach level 54+ expect to hardly ever get party invites. You'll have to solo most of the exp from 54-73 until you can join manaburn parties on Puddings. The way people level now is to have as many melee DDs as possible (DRG, SAM, WAR, DRK, etc.) with 1-2 support jobs (BRD + BRD or BRD + COR usually) and 1 healer/haster (generally RDM but a good WHM perform decently).

Well, I'm a fan of being a DD or a healer, so what would you suggest for maximum party invites nowadays? Like, what would you suggest for a sought after DD and a sought after healer? Subjob combos if you can. Thanks =)

Sam (/war & /nin) or War (/sam & /nin) for DD.
Rdm (/whm, /blm, /drk, /nin), Whm (/sch, /smn, /blm) or Sch (/rdm, /whm, /blm) for healing.
Subjobs are situational.
Quick Edit: Sch can DD as well as Blm, as well as be a competant healer under certain situations.
Rdm (/whm, /blm, /drk, /nin), Whm (/sch, /smn, /blm) or Sch (/rdm, /whm, /blm) for healing.

Tyvm for the advice. Looking forward to starting up the game again

For healing RDM gets parties very easily once you get Convert & Refresh. I would say it's the fastest healing job to level. For exp parties you'll only need /WHM but /NIN, /BLM, /DRK and other situational subjobs like /PLD and /BLU are worth leveling once your 75. I personally wouldn't recommend WHM nor SCH as they don't get parties quite as quickly especially when you get to 75 and start meriting but keep in mind RDM Maat is probably the hardest one.
If you need any help with RDM Maat assuming you pick that job first feel free to shoot me a PM and i'll give you some tips. You can solo your testimony too which is nice.
A good DD job to level would definitely be Samurai. You will probably be fine subbing WAR to 75 (including merit parties) but /NIN is useful for endgame and you'll want /THF for stuff like Khimaira. /RNG might be useful too for stuff like Tiamat.
Dragoon is a really fun job nowadays and it has been buffed quite a bit. They get merit parties easily as long as you have good gear and the new mythic weaponskill Drakesbane is broken. They use /SAM, /NIN, /WAR and /THF subjobs. The best soloing subjob is /BLU.

Fixed.

it depends on your server what job is fastest to take up.
on odin they seem or sound liek they have more cors and brds lfg so any givin point one may have to wait a bit longer for exp invite then a different job
it also depends on the level rage your seeking at, for example once my PLD hit 55 i got spamed invites even after being in a pt for 5 mins meny times ( asura has some fananation with "tanks" that i do not understand at all, i perffer just a bunch of DD/nin over one tank) I would say it is worse on PLD then ti was on brd or rdm ( but rdm was my 2003 job) so i do not know the exact invite rate. if PLDs are wanted a lot liek asura then rdms will also be wanted.
typally now a days it is harder for sub par mages to get invites i would put magies like this find mage X > then look for mage y)
RDM > WHM >SMN>SCH>.............................................................................
....> BLM.
only time i see blm in my pts if they are lead.
melees would work something like this:
SAM>DRG>RNG> others.
anything that can wield piercing damage > others
BRD and COR are both wanted. the only thign brd has to worry about is COR taking that "second bard spot"
like it would be brd and cor > brd and brd.
also depending on server you may have good rate of invite for mana burns, i get invited to them when im trying to do event on blm this is only on puddings though, blm was 2004 for me so again no idea what it is like trying to level now.
personal invite rate atm (with job cont compare that i seen in pts)
PLD / BRD / RDM / COR/NIN ( pretty close of spammy) WHM>WAR / SAM/ DRG > RNG > MNK >DNC> SCH>THF > DRK > BLU > SMN> ...>PUP >.........> BST ...................>BLM
you would only pt with pups, bst or blm if they are lead ro frined you get in pt or w/e
well pups are kind of "common" compared to the other 2.
